Rumor has it Mac was trying to trade up to #1 for a QB. Tells you all you need to know about Geno and Petty (and his thoughts on Fitz going forward). Mac's package no doubt included a stud defensive lineman which probably forced the Rams to up their offer quite a bit. Now that Goff is off the board, the #2 pick is far less valuable. Mac may not be done.
No way we know if we have a good coach and GM after one year. I'll bet most thought Rex was a great coach after one year.
If that rumor is true I don't think it would sit while with the players in the locker room. The Jets are in win now.
This is a QB driven league To not understand this you have to have your head up your a** Unless your 4-12 . Year in year out the good ones dont come cheap to aquire
In case U did not realize it U just the nail on the head why the NYJs have not appeared in a SB since 1969. Up to that year they have good coaching (ewbank) great QB (JWN) wonderful D terrific O I recommend U obtain the tape of SB3 to see the greatest NYJ ever in action.
We will continue to let the veterans and best players play on every given Sunday. To find a way to remain competitive each and every year. A good mixture of veteran players and young players. As that gypsy Abyzmul said, strategic retooling. We simply cannot instill this culture of losing, and that is done by remaining competitive and acquiring the best players no matter the age. Now, if you disagree with that, I think you would be a great 76ers fan. I see some fans here complaining about winning games at the end of the year, this idea of winning "meaningless" games [example beating the Titans, in which they eventually got Mariota for example] is stupid. Tanking for higher draft picks, completely purging the roster never truly works.
You really didn't respond to my post, but it should be very clear if you read my post that we basically agree. Thus your "Now, if you disagree with that..." makes no sense, but whatever. I think I liked you better when you were smoking.
It worked for the Colts twice, however they had trouble winning in the playoffs after both tanking sessions because you can't win off of your QB alone once you get into the tournament. I can't think of anybody else who it has worked for in recent NFL history. There are several teams right now that have had a "franchise" QB for awhile and not managed to win consistently despite that. Atlanta San Diego Detroit There are others but those are the clear examples of the QB is not the whole picture in terms of being a good team.
I wish the Jets played in the AFC South. The QB can only get you so far, still need a decent run game and a opportunistic defense indeed.
Who would have thought that the Niners and the Ravens would end up with such terrible records? All teams head in the wrong direction at some point, the jets are no exception. This years draft will be important because they could build on the foundation that Mac started to build. Williams and Mauldin are the future of this team, they both came on as the season went on. I'm of the opinion that this year they will find 2 more good young players in the draft, on what side of the ball, that I don't know. It may look like they are heading in the wrong direction, but when you consider the moves that Mac has made, FA acquisitions, not re-signing some players, it's not as bad as it looks. All teams go through a transition, tough schedules, injuries, FA losses...etc It's who they bring in via drafts and FA signings that determine if they continue their slide or turn it around. I don't think the jets will be 14-2, but I don't foresee them being 4-12 either. OLB with 20th pick and Olineman with 2nd round pick should help this team stay the course.
U ought to obtain a copy of SB 3 & watch a real team play FB. The NYjs owners since 01/13/69 have presented us fans with total & complete garbage

I agree that the jets have had a run of terrible years, but it's not easy when you don't have a franchise QB. Namath was a franchise QB. I think Mac is trying to do his best to get some good young players on this team while keeping it competitive. Our defense is young with the exception of Harris, and Revis. It's time to work on getting some good young players on the offensive side of the ball.
Well U ought to obtain a copy of SB3 & compare the play of that team to the newer teams & then U will realize the shit our owners have given us thru the years
It's going to take some time for Macc to make up for previous regimes lack of quality draft picks but I disagree with us being a mediocre team at present. Macc isn't stupid enough not to see we have a window of opportunity with this current roster and I believe that a deal will get done with the bearded wonder and we will make a run to a playoff birth while grooming his replacement.
