I can't even begin to express how depressing it would be to start out the 2016 campaign with Geno. I would throw-up. *crosses fingers* Please I'm hoping we can get Fitz back
i wouldn't be depressed, i'm actually still willing to figure out the good way or bad, How Geno can do with Chan in this spread system.. It fits his style of play.. Give em a short leash.. then you can find out if Petty can at least show flashes of potential. we can knock out two birds in one stone and see if we need to move on or if we have something already. The way the schedule is looking i'm thinking we'll be in the hunt for a top QB in next years draft lol!
The top two QB prospects in this year's class weren't slam dunks opinion-wise (me, I'd take Goff over Wentz). As for next year's class, there's Watson out of Clemson (whom many would take right now over Goff/Wentz) and after him, let's see how the others pan out first: the maturation of Ole Miss' Chad Kelly, or if Jeremy Johnson of Auburn's more than just Cam Newton lite, or if Gunner Kiel of Cincinnati can stay healthy before we declare next year's class as being "much worse."
Should be interesting to see how Gunner Kiel progresses, he had all of the tools and was heralded as the next big thing. Several transfers and concussions later, he might not live up to that billing. Thing about Chad Kelly, 3 teams in 3 years and the guy ain't Cam Newton [going from school to school]. Good arm strength, but I don't like his decision making on and off the field. I'll be watching a lot of Brad Kaaya this year down in The U. He's a talented guy as well. That next class could either be really good, or can falter just like the draft classes of the past.
In a perfect world I would love for petty to become the franchise QB. However In a situation where they are negotiating with fitz on a contract it would be in the teams best interest to publicly endorse petty as a potential starter (even if it was untrue) as it would potentially give them leverage. Although even in that perfect situation to praise him they said he could be a solid backup or something along those lines. you gotta trust the coaches that spent almost every day with him since he was drafted over watching youtube clips etc... maybe one day but I dont think they feel this year is the year.
"There is always next year" talk is absolutely ridiculous. I fail to see how Lynch Goff and Wentz are not good prospects or any better or worse then next years crap Point is if the Jets have already tried to move up in this years draft they want a QB in addition to Petty IMO this is just realty going forward...Fitz is not the answer, Petty is a fourth rounder and Geno is out of the question Who can step in and handle the NFL schedule especially the nightmare ones we are handed....its a good test Speaking of the schedule, we are not going 10-6 even with Fitz playing his best Pick up a Vet QB if Fitz screws us and a top rookie QB....Load up on the most important position or mediocrity will be synonomous with this team
I think it's all going to depend on the draft. If one of the top three (Wentz, Goff or Lynch) should fall to the Jets (or a possible move up) with Fitz unsigned (stranger things have happened), I think the Jets will go QB. Fitz will probably go unsigned and the Jets will most likely have a rookie starting QB. Otherwise, money not being an issue, if it came down to Fitz or Foles, I would prefer Foles. He's big, young, has a strong arm, and has proven himself a winner in Phila. Either way, the prospect for a deep playoff run next year seems grim, but at least with these two scenarios, the future for the Jets looks brighter than if they go with Fitz again next year. As you say: Fitz is not the answer at QB. He is a stop-gap at best, and the longer the Jets keep using stop-gaps at QB, the longer it will take to get to the promised land.
I'm looking forward to a new era Jet QB selected by a front office that's a pure drafting office. I trust Mac. Realistically I think it could be Lynch or Cook.
Foles is not the answer, either. IMO I'd MUCH rather have Fitz than Foles. Foles is a stop gap and a jag imo. Just because he's young doesn't change that. One could play him and he's not gonna magically develop or transform into a franchise QB. He may have a stronger arm than Fitz, but he doesn't know the system, doesn't have the football IQ, doesn't make the quick decisions and get the ball out as quickly as Fitz. I usually agree with you, but sorry I can't with this post. I'd rather start Geno than trade for Foles. At least that wouldn't cost us a draft pick or picks. Also, your last sentence doesn't make much sense to me. If one isn't fortunate enough to have a franchise QB, the only other option is a stop gap. A rookie who isn't ready to play isn't gonna get the job done.
We can't know if they aren't ready to play unless we play them. By your logic the Jets should sign a stop gap every year. That's not going to get the job done either. The only way a QB learns the game (or a system) is by playing.
Sorry, but that's just not true. If it were, Petty would have been playing already. It doesn't matter what we fans know. OCs, QB coaches and HCs have a very good idea if a player is ready to play yet. They can tell if he knows the offense, what fundamentals issues he has, if any, etc. They don't know exactly how well he will play or how poised he will be, but they know if they're ready to see the field. Please don't insult me with your comment "By your logic the Jets should sign a stop gap every year." That's a ridiculous stretch, and I've never said anything of the kind, and you've seen me post enough to know I would never say something so stupid. Sanchez may have never developed into a quality starting QB, but whatever chances he had were ruined by throwing him to the wolves his rookie season after only one season of starting at USC. EVERYONE knew he needed to sit for a year or two except that dumbass Rex. In Geno's case I don't think it would have mattered, but he probably would have been a lot better if he had been able to sit his rookie season as well.
You would rather start Geno ?? LMAO I don't think Westie was wrong referring to your logic. Also, if there is no framchise QB you insist on a stop gap (first sentence...Foles is a stop gap). And our other options at stop gap are .....who?? If you have noticed, Fitz isn't signing
My sincerest apologies, I didn't mean to insult you. You know I hold your postings in the highest regard, but we don't always have to agree. "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." -Aristotle I think our disagreement stems from our reasons of why 1st round pick QB's almost always end up as starters. I say it's strictly economics, and you say it's poor coaching decisions. Nevertheless, I do agree that rookie QB's would be better served if they sat and learned for a year or so. Since the new CBA went into effect, I can only think of three 1st round QB's who did not immediately start for their teams: Tebow, Manziel and Locker. Even so, Tebow and Manziel eventually did start games as rookies. I have no idea if the Jets will draft a QB in round one. If they do, regardless of my own opinions, I have to respect that Maccagnan and Bowles see something in the selection that says this guy is the real deal. And if this should happen, I would fully expect him to be the starting QB this season, for better or worse.
Thanks for your apology. I didn't care that we didn't agree. It was the way in which I thought you were twisting my words to say something I would never say. All's cool. I think you're spot on that economics is the reason why most 1st round QBs start. The truth is, that some are ready to start, or at least they probably can't be any worse than the JAG QBs that are already in the NFL. If a QB is pro ready, I have no problems with his starting. It's just that I don't think that every QB taken in the 1st round is ready to start immediately. As you know, there aren't enough quality QBs in the NFL to go around. Teams are desperate for good QBs, so they will reach for them and take some in the first round that probably shouldn't be taken at least until round 2. For instance look at the top 4 QBs in this draft. Some say that Goff is the most NFL ready. Others say that it's Wentz. Still others think Connor Cook is the most NFL ready even though he's considered to be a 2nd round pick or maybe later. Conversely, Lynch is thought to need a lot of work, yet will probably taken in the 1st round. Goff, Wentz and even Cook may be able to start from day one and do just fine, although it would probably help them to let them sit for a while and give them time to learn the offense and adjust to the speed of the NFL if nothing else. Lynch OTOH, definitely needs to sit. He's raw and needs work. It would do him harm, quite possibly irreparable harm if he was thrown to the wolves starting day 1. It will be interesting to see if the Jets take a QB, if so, who they take, and how they treat him (Will they sign a vet and have him sit for a year, will he be handed the starting spot, or will they have an open QB competition?).
