Now why would I want to fish water that's dirtier than the east river??? If I want to fish dirty water, there's always the Susquehanna 5mi. away. Hell, I'm downstream from 3mi Island so I absolutely could find some mutant fish in a river so polluted that The Army Corps of Engineers won't dredge it for fear of disturbing huge amounts of mercury.
I hear down by the damn there is. Further down river there's big Walleye too. Not sure about eating them. I think DNR recommends one fish per year or something extreme like that. Now you know why my boat stays parked and I drive to Belmar/Pt. Pleasant.
Red Snapper have been closed altogether in FL for a few years (sans an open weekend a year)...... and of course in NE FL I can't keep them away. This one was my personal best. at least we caught one 40" cobia for the grill... but we burned alot of gas trying to find him
One a year? Yikes, not eating that. That's basically "yeah it won't kill you, but....." Big fish are usually crappy anyway, I just want to catch one of those big uglies, because I never have.
Folks do fish them here. Most go north of 3mile Island and further upriver. Susquehanna is also known for smallies. There's two Sweetwater lakes I fish out here. One has gin clear water that you can see bottom in 25ft. That lake is best fished at night. The other is a good sized lake but they don't stock it. Nicknamed "The dead sea", they stopped doing tourneys there. I've caught really big crappie that rival porgy just not very often.
Yeah, I still plan on fishing when I get there later this summer but instead of a charter, I will settle for a head boat. Cheaper and a good compromise with wife and in-laws. I married a cheapskate
Cman 67, I caught a guppie in my 5 gallon fish tank once, he made it easier though he floated to the top on his back....
1st Trip of 2016 perhaps next Sunday 4/24. Most likely for Blackfish unless I get a report otherwise. Might still be a bit too early for Stripers. Looking at the OE first as they're hitting both Blackfish and Cod. Then if the Stripers blow up, I'll be on the Miss Belmar Princess. Plan C is the Dauntless out of Pt. Pleasant.
Man, you PA guys have all kinds of cool stuff we don't. Clear water, flatheads, room to fish hahaha. I think your first plan is your best plan as of right now. I like the Dauntless, but their lack of reports always worries me. They really need to put them up more than once a week at best, once a month at worst. How is the Miss Belmar? I've never been on it. I passed them up for the Golden Eagle last year, and heard they did way better than we did that day. D'oh!
The Miss B is a pretty good boat. Very large and handles swells easily. Nice hot galley with burgers, bacon/egg sandwiches in the morning. Good crew too and the Capt knows his stuff. Those 3 engines they're always bragging about are no joke. That boat moves! Very good for Stripers and Blues too but better fished during the week. On weekends, you'd have to get there at 5am to get a spot front or back as you don't want the sides because of the crowds and day trippers. I have discount tickets we've held now for several years and I plan to use them this season especially since they cut the Sea Bass bag limit down to 10 until the fall. They're pretty regular with the reports too unlike the Dauntless. If there's one area the D falls short, its reporting. Always a crap shoot with that boat although I've done pretty good for the most part. The one boat I wouldn't go on if it were free would be the Mohawk. Don't like the Crew as they cater to their regulars and everyone else is on their own. The Eagle has its good days and most likely is the Plan B when the Miss Belmar is too crowded.
I'll have to give her a shot if I get a chance to go for stripers this spring. I'd have to go during the week, I get too frustrated with a railed boat on a weekend, I just can't do it anymore. As far as the Mohawk, yeah, they've pretty much always been a "regulars" boat. When I hit a boat, I get there before everyone, sometimes I'm at the dock by 430, I just fish around the boat to kill time. They STILL moved my freaking rod out of the pulpit. F them. I always liked the Dauntless, the mate Steve is a Jets fan. Just need to get the reports up. I found the Norma K reports almost everyday, and they're right across the marina from the Dauntless, so I can at least get a general idea.
Let me know if you wanna hit one of these boats on a monday or a friday. I can probably get the day off with enough lead time.
may be better off finding an inshore / back country guide.... summer headboat in SFL. temper your expectations, unless it's a far run (or in the keys)
