I'd like to hear everyone's opinions on Jeff Driskel. His draft projections are all over the place. I've seen as early as 2nd round and as late as not been drafted at all. His LA Tech tape surprised me considering his struggles at Florida. Maybe Will Muschamp is just a QB killer both Driskel and Brissett seem to have found success after getting out from under his coaching. There's a lot to like watching Driskel game cut-ups at LA Tech (great footwork and ability to go through progressions at times, arm talent, mobility, touch, poise/pocket presence, athleticism, toughness and more). From what I've read and seen in his interviews, it seems he has all the intangibles as well. Given Gailey's system he seems like a good fit. Thoughts?

I think he could have a good career as a backup in the NFL.

Idk if he will ever be a long term starter somewhere but considering you would be getting him in the middle rounds, a long career as a backup would be a positive pick. He has always had loads of talent. And he can move better than anyone outside of the pocket. The problem will always be accuracy with him. His inability to throw on the run negates alot of his speed and ability to run with the ball. But he does throw the ball with some zip. That and he has a quick release.

If you only need a guy to win you a game or 2, a guy that can come in, get the ball out quickly with some zip and make plays with his feet, is a great option. anything more than a couple games and his deficiencies would start to take hold. So I think if you draft him you do so recognizing you have the backup QB of your future and not your starting QB of the future. With expectations like that he is a decent prospect.

He's reminds me of Hackenberg. One of those guys who was thought to be a first round pick after is freshman year.

Jeff Driskel will never be anything more than a PS or 3rd stringer QB in the nfl. I have watched every college game he has played in and the guy is just not very good.

I saw a guy playing in a division of football he belonged in, the practice squad and backups group of overall talent. FL was a mess during his time there so I am not saying he got a fair shake with good coaching but he did not show a whole lot to be hopeful for in the years he was there facing the cream of the crop competition.

I didnt watch him at La Tech but I see 32 TDs in 13 games so he musta been alright there.

I watched him at Florida and I saw some ups and downs but I did see him against my alma mater - South Carolina - throw for 4 TD passes on only 16 passes total. This was against the greatest team in the history of my school, a team that outside of Driskel's destruction was a 2 point loss on the road in LSU away from going undefeated. Driskel's amazingly efficient 4TD game came against a defense that year that made several NFL drafted QBs look like fools that year including making the SECs all time leading passer just two weeks prior to that game look like pure dogshit.

so he's had some very good games. Again - I think he's a NFL backup. at the end of the day who knows but I think its wrong to say he will never amount to anything and is "just not very good"

Another way to look at Driskel: Consider a guy in this year's NFL draft who was the number 1 overall QB coming out of high school. An electrifying dual threat prospect. Surprisingly he chooses to play at Louisiana Tech. His senior year he scores 32 TDs. Figures that could've been higher if they weren't up big at halftime so much. He impresses everyone at the Senior Bowl. At the combine he measures 6'4 234lbs, runs a 4.5 40 time.

    I mean its possible that's a 1st round QB right there. ^

Florida was a complete toxic dumpster fire under Muschamp. And that's a college in general with some strange expectations. That's another thing I respect about Driskel. He has never once said anything bad about Florida despite getting a raw deal there. Check this out:

    ---

"Holtz says. Petersen, too, worried about inheriting a player who was beaten down mentally. He can't figure out what Florida did to Driskel, he says, and for a moment, the coordinator's voice trails off. He looks perplexed, because he has been analyzing this game for 25 years and can't, for the life of him, figure out what happened to Driskel—or how it didn't drive him mad. Maybe it did, Petersen says. "Maybe he hides it well."

Regardless, Driskel is a master of compartmentalizing, of appreciating Florida for what it was—the place he met his future wife, a school from which he graduated—and not saying a negative word. It's unbelievable, really, especially now that the quarterback has proven many of his critics wrong, shown that Florida was the problem, not him—not that he would ever say as much. Always, he demurs. Great school, great place, great four years. His mother guesses it won't be long before her son is back, tailgating for Gators games with his college buddies, cheering on the team whose fans once buried him.

But not everyone can understand Driskel's nonchalance, Holtz chief among them. In early September, on his radio show, the coach made reference to Driskel being a scapegoat at Florida. Gators fans flooded his inbox with vitriol, and just recalling their words leaves the permanently upbeat coach deflated. "If that had been me, I'd have thrown a salute at them and said see ya," he says of Driskel. His laugh booms. The salute, of course, is Holtz's two middle fingers."

Driskel is absolutely awful. He has no business playing D1 football. He honestly might be the worst college QB I've seen play in the last 5 years.

This kid was a disgrace at Florida and made me so angry. He was worse than Treon Harris and thats really saying something. There is literally zero redeemable things about him. He sucked so terribly playing big boy ball that he graduated and took another year in conference USA. He played ok but still if he can't make it at Florida he can't make it in the NFL.

    He will not be drafted.

Maybe its a little rash. But he has no business in the NFL. A kid with his measurables should at least have some success but thats just not the case for him aside from his last year at LA Tech.
