Being a physically gifted QB is great n all, but if you don't have a brain none of it matters. Whats the difference between this guy and Geno Smith?
The only thing they have in common as prospects is that are both black. Brissett is taller, bigger, more elusive, higher football IQ, better character and has experience in a pro-style scheme. EDIT: Let me add that Brissett presents a better value than Geno as a prospect since more than likely he would be available on Day 3 of the draft.
Brissett and Sudfeld are the biggest Jeckell/Hyde QBs in the draft. You can find games for each one where they look like top 50 picks and ones where they look undraftable.
@CleveSteve I wanted to get your take on a trade. Browns: Wilkerson Jets: #32 + 5th + conditional 2nd 17' (Wilk resigns) I figure you would love him beside Danny Shelton and can afford his salary long term.
Lynch and Floyd would be a really tough call.. If no Fitz I would go Lynch if Fitz wakes up I'd go Floyd
Well, there's no way the Browns make that trade without an extension, so it's #32, another top 40 pick, and #141 for Wilkerson. He's a great player but we have so many needs that would be tough price to pay, especially at a position that isn't even in our top 5 needs and with the DL depth in this draft I think I'd rather take Nkemdiche or Chris Jones and suffer the performance delta and keep the other two picks if they want to use 32 on a DL. I thought about it though.
Haven't watched a lot of Sudfeld so I can't speak to that. Brissett, however, played behind a pretty poor oline and developed some bad habits but nothing I can think of that would make him undraftable. What game(s) are those?
What's the future look like at QB guys? I would say pretty doubtful at this point in time The most important position on field is now a contest between Petty and Geno baring a miraculous Fitz sighting Even if RF comes back you still need a franchise QB and it won't be Geno I would roll with Lynch and Petty going forward if this could be accomplished. Wentz and Goff will be gone unless we orchestrate a trade using Mo. No Connor Cook for me and the lesser known QBs are all mystery meat imo Two weeks to go and I am sure the Jets board is set but don't be surprised if there is a bold move this year
Lynch would be a dream come true. Move on from this Fitz drama... Camp would be a battle between Lynch, Petty and Geno. I think it would be healthy for the team to have some healthy competition.
Hmmm ok. I thought a 2nd + 5th + cond 2nd he re signs is a good deal for both. Jets recoup draft picks and the Browns immediately become a force in the trenches in a division that runs the ball a lot.
This would be a bad idea, there is no veteran leadership or any vet to pass off knowledge or to tell the QB how to prepare. And Geno is not that answer.
I strongly disagree not only the guy snapping the QB the ball is a vet but we just added Forte in the backfield. Add the vet receivers we have and Chan Gailey?!?! A young QB has the best support you could ever ask for TBH.
I totally agree that even if we sign Fitz we don't have a franchise QB. I don't think Wentz, Goff or Lynch will be there at 20. If they love one they would need to move up. Having said that the price could be real high and really there are only 3 teams that we could deal with. Titans for Goff/Wentz - jump in front of Browns - Mo + 1st 2016 + 1st 2017 Ravens for Goff/Wentz - jump in front of SF/Eagles - Mo + 1st 2016 + 3rd 2017 Raiders for Lynch - jump in front of Rams - 2nd 2016 We already are pretty depleted with picks.. I can't see us move up... I think if Lynch falls we would consider taking him at 20 or trade back and take Cook at the end of the first round... Not saying if I agree or not but those seem to be the options if a QB is our target. It all depends if they love a QB or not really..
Support in terms of weapons and coaching but you still need a vet at the QB position. That's why Hasselbeck was QBing for the Colts and helping Luck.
Everything you say here seems to makes the most sense in regards to drafting a QB. It could be a smokescreen to make RF think a little bit........kind of a steep price to move all the way up to guarantee to get the QB they may want especially with the lack of draft picks and the numerous pressing needs......I say they wait in the weeds and let the board play out. They may get lucky and a guy like Lynch slides......
It doesn't make sense to trade up for a QB in this draft. Trading Mo for a pick that turns into a QB is fine but trading him plus several other key assets is just going to leave the QB high and dry in a year or two even if the Jets get who they want. Right now the Jets best players are mostly 30 or over. If you're going to use them to groom a young QB you want to do the opposite of trading up. You want to trade back some and get picks to add talent that will be in place when the QB is ready to go, not falling away to retirement.
2 weeks to go and I would like to see some MaccMajic no matter how it goes. We have good management finally
