I want to like Petty more than I actually like him at this point.
He made a couple of nice throws in preseason last year, but can’t say his game really looked any better than Matt Simms or Brett Ratliff did early on.

He shows the same sort of rawness to his game those guys did. Still a project imo, doesn’t mean he can’t become a starter, but I wouldn’t put all my eggs in his basket either at this point.

Just read the Jets are kicking tires on Lynch.. I could see Denver making a trade with Buffalo if they covet him

Seems like Lynch would be a good fit with Gailey's offense. If they think this guy can be a franchise QB, I really want him to be the pick at 20.

I like him at 20 too, but I think he's going to go earlier, maybe the first qb off the board. They all have question marks, but I can see teams thinking Lynch has the best chance of reaching his ceiling vs. busting.

    Pro-day today...
Lynch impressed, throwing into 25-30 MPH winds with accuracy, including deep outs.
very strong arm to go along with the impressive size and athleticism.

25 teams were in attendance, including a 4 man Jets contingency (Mac, Hogan, QB coach Patullo and an area scout), which was the largest group for any team in attendance.

His stock is rising. not sure he lasts till 20...
glad Jets are taking a serious look, and doing due diligence on these QB prospects.

QB pro days don't mean shit. If we draft Paxton Lynch in the first round we are fucked

I have found that you and I typically agree on QBs. Thats why I am surprised to hear you feel this way on Lynch. I think he's a decent mid 1st round prospect myself. He makes some improvements to his game he could have a decent career IMO. I think his accuracy will improve as coaches work on his footwork. but you can't coach that kind of athleticism for a 6'7 QB. .

I like him better than Wentz myself, although I'll admit I havent watched very much of Wentz. Maybe he's better than what I judge him as

It's not that I think he's bad, I just think he is not a first round caliber QB. I don't think Wentz is either. I don't believe in taking project qbs with a first round pick. There's a few mid round guys I feel have just as much potential.

Can't put too much stock into Pro Days. JaMarcus Russell and Sam Bradford both had one of the best pro days ever for a QB.

I agree, somewhat. At first he's very shiny at first glance, and I was kinda coveting him. But I've cooled on him in spite of all the physical tools. I don't know if we're fucked tho.

If we draft him I will defer to Mac on that. I don't think he will reach for him in desperation either, so we'll see.

I like Wentz and Goff much more

Aside from FCS level of competition (ND is 5-0 in their last 5 games against FBS comp BTW) I can't think of anything Wents doesn't do well as a prospect. So please enlighten me on why Wentz is not a first round talent.

thats a pretty decent reason though to not like him as a prospect. He played for the very best Div I-A team there is. nearly every game he played, he played with better players around him than the competition. Can't say the same for Paxton Lynch @ Memphis.

So then it is your belief that no FCS or lower QB should ever be drafted in the 1st?

Vernon Adams would be my first choice, he would fit our offense nicely. I'd take Lynch if he fell to the mid rounds (that looks unlikely), he's too much of a project for me to take early. I really like Cardale Jones, I'd take him at fair value. I think Coker and Prescott are decent mid rounders but I'm not overpaying for them.

no not at all and thats not what I was saying either. plenty of FCS QBs can become decent prospects. Not a system FCS QB from the best team in the division who really only started for a season and a half for a team with an obvious talent advantage.

He isn't Joe Flacco going to 5-6 Delaware, taking them on his back and setting 20 school records, taking them to the FBS championship and throwing for 500 yards and 4 TDs against a bowl team in Navy.

Wentz played for a team that has dominated at the lower level before him and after him (when injured). Yeah I have concerns. He probably had clean pockets, wide open recievers, etc all the time.

You mention how ND State is 5-0 against Div. 1 teams in their last 5 games. How is that supposed to be a statement benefitting Wentz? Especially since he only played in 1 of them. He beat an Iowa State team that went 2-10 and winless in the Big 12.

I like Prescott as well. He is a genuine good football player. Vernon Adams I dont know much about really. Cardale Jones is absolutely intriguing, I'll agree. He is a risk but a risk that could pan out. Even if the Jets dont draft him, I will follow his career because I want to see how he does.

We don't have to guess about how clean his pockets were or how open his wide receivers were; there are plenty game cut-ups out there to address those concerns.

That throw to win the game against SDSU in that title game back in 2014 was very impressive.

He can make all of the throws.

He falls apart without a clean pocket. 42% passing when pressured. He's got a big windup and throwing mechanics get sloppy when under duress. He's not that good throwing medium to deep. 43% passing on throws 20-30 yards. He's got a good arm but floats his deep ball. I don't think he's that good a pocket passer. He benefited from being on a superior team. Im not biased against the FCS. Garropollo was an FCS product and I was very high on him. Wentz can't hold Garropollo's jock. Garropollo was surgically destroying everybody. Wentz wilted against the tougher teams on his scheduled. Look at the game logs. Wentz had one game over 300 yards passing in his entire career. Is he an intriguing prospect? Sure, but worth a top ten pick, hell no. For comparison, Goff had almost as many completions just last year as Wentz had in his career.
