Malik Jackson signed for 14M annually with 30 million gauranteed. thats mo's market value right there. he seems to be looking for 16-18 million with 40-50 gauranteed.
The Titans know if they trade out of number 1 , a team is taking a Qb .( getting in front of the Browns to pick the Qb of their choice. They know the Browns are taking a Qb at number 2. ( safe to assume two Qb's would go in the first two picks) . Only question is how far down can the Titans go , and still get their guy.( while acquiring extra picks in the draft.
Yep. Lucky them. Getting Mariota last year, then the #1 pick this year and probably being able to trade down a few spots and still get the player they want or another one just about as good that can help them. Why can the Jets never be that lucky?
I honestly don't see the point in trading him anymore. He's already under contract for the year.. he's been fit in to our salary space.. There really isn't any more free agents that we would need to clear big space to sign... and we're not gonna get our moneys worth in return for wilk.. He has a broken leg, demanding probably somewhere over 100M+, there's a shit load of good DE's in this years draft...nobody is offering a first even though he's worth more than just a first IMO. way more. I say we just try the same approach next year.. another chance get another great season out of him and hopefully his value would DEMAND a first round pick. Tag-n-trade Wilk Next year, this also gives us more time to see if Leonard Williams is who we think he is and if he's gonna allow us to be comfortable replacing wilk for him. I just don't think there is a rush. If we need space go mess around with Brick and Breno's contracts. They can save us about 15M by releasing them.
After this season, Mo becomes an unrestricted FA. He would not sign another tender. He'd be stupid to. He knows on the FA market teams will bid to get him and he could wind up with a huge contract. It would only hurt the Jets and tie up around $18-19 million of their cap that they couldn't use in FA next season. Not smart. If the Jets keep him this year, they get only a 3rd round compensatory pick (you might as well say a 4th rounder). There's no way that makes sense imo. Take what they can get this year for him, get the cap space. Even if they can't use it all this year, they can carry it over to next season. Besides, following the draft and TC, there will be cuts of players and the Jets could wind up using a chunk of that money to sign some more players to help the team. Further, if we trade him, we don't have to make another move to be able to sign our rookies. If we keep him, we're going to either have to cut Giacomini or get Brick to take a sizable pay cut prior to the draft and possibly be in the position of having to cut him and then having to get an LT in the draft. That makes zero sense imo.
I thought all the teams rookie reserve money was already accounted for prior to free agency, and if Mo didn't sign a franchise tender then what? he has to sit out for the year unpaid? I doubt if he does that over taking 16M+ for one season!
so if the draft started tonight.. we wouldn't even have money to sign our 7th round pick? lol.. that's crazy. Brick (or/and) Breno are goners man. thank god.
Kind of.. after the draft the league assigns a tender to each pick. For this year its $450k per. With 6 picks they'll be assigned a cap figure of $2.7mm which gets replaced with the actual contract once signed. Restructuring $2.7mm between now and the draft shouldn't be too tough for Mac (assuming nothing else happens between now and the draft). It allows him to see how the draft plays out for them and other teams before making decisions on guys such as D'Brick and Breno that will be needed shortly after the draft.
The 7th rounder wouldn't really count against the cap because of the top 51 rule. But we wouldn't be able to sign our rookie class right now.
At this time, would it be fair to say we will not see any more signings until after the draft, and or a Mo trade that seems unlikely. It is hard for me to imagine signing Fitz or anyone else unless we see some cap room movement. It would be premature or right down risky to expect the likes of Giaco or even worse Brick to be released for cap relief unless there is a suitable back up in the wings thru the draft or a trade. I think it's going to be wait and see for awhile. The dominoes will fall once the draft is completed or Mo is traded before or during the draft.
If the Jets can't trade Muhammad Wilkerson or sign him to a long term contract , than he will play under the franchise tag. What happens usually here is the franchise player doesn't sign his tender till a week before the start of the season. This way he can miss all the Ota's and training camp, and there isn't anything the Jets can do about it. A player misses that much time, and they become more prone to getting injured. Do the Jets really want to pay a guy 15.7 million who ends up sitting on the sidelines recovering from his injuries.
LOL no way Dallas gives up the #4 pick. It's not that I don't think Mo is worth it he's a great player it's that I don't believe this GM of ours has the GM game necessary to pull it off. He already messed up by letting word get out of how "happy" he would be to trade Wilkerson. Game over. Knowing that why would Dallas fork over the #4 pick? The #4 pick in the second round yeah I could see that and I think Maccagnan would settle for it too.
Unfortunately you're right.........although regardless of what Mac said the NFL GMs know exactly what Mo's realistic value is. He is not worth the # 4. At best he's worth a low end first rounder which considering his price tag, will still be a hard sell. Mac would be doing very well to get the #4 pick in the second round........first round talent will be available at that point due to the slippage factor.
How is he not worth the #4 pick? He's a known great NFL defensive player, still in his prime. Second at his position to only JJ Watt. A 100% can't miss. NFL draft picks ar so f'n overrated what holds so much value before the pick is made then loses most if not all of it's value after the pick is made? A NFL team could hit a grand slam on a draft pick and 4-5 years later be lucky to get back the same value for that player in a trade.
HE11 NO! He'd be SETTLING. Wilkerson is a great player, he can can play inside or outside. **** HE'S THE BEST PLAYER ON OUR TEAM! I'd much rather have Wilkerson on the team in 2016 than some second round pick this GM will use to draft some bust or lesser player anyway. We don't have to get rid of him. Only accept a second round pick in return if you are desperate to move him. WHY WHY WHY? so desperate to move a player that's not only turned out to be everything we could've hoped for when the team used that draft pick on him but has also been a good soldier on and off the field?
