Terry does not have them doing the little things that it takes to win a championship. We saw exactly why we lost the world series last night. It's as if we're just showing up and expecting the pitching to win without having to pay attention to details.

I heard Francesa say that Conforto may end up being the Mets best offensive player. I wouldn't be surprised if that ends up being the case. Really sucks they aren't letting him be an everyday player. I hope he forces their hands.

I think he will eventually. He's too good to not play everyday. And unless its like a Bumgarner or Kershaw type lefty , he needs to be in there more times than not.

Going into the spring, I thought the Mets had 100 win talent and I still think they do. One loss doesn't change that for me. But the thing that worries me, is the thing I didn't consider --- no Alpha leadership. Somebody needs to step up, and take charge of this clubhouse. The only guy on this team who gives me the sense he has the balls to do it is Matt Harvey, but you really need one or two every day players to keep everyone in line. We don't have that, and I'm concerned that it will be a problem going forward.

If Ray Knight or Keith Hernandez, or even Todd Pratt was on this team, Cespedes might have been knocked on his ass 6 months ago.

Walker and d'Arnaud aren't big on-base guys either, and Terry doesn't want to bunch up the lefties in the order so Conforto'd be better at 3 or 5.

At this point though either are better in that spot than Wright is.

Both are good contact hitters and Walker bats from both sides.

Maybe neither are the prototypical 2nd spot hitters but Grandy isn't necessarily a prototypical lead off guy either.

I just want someone in that spot that can take some of the pressure off of Cespedes and Duda

Agreed that Conforto would be best in the 3rd spot. Maybe in the future he finds his way there.

You make a good point I think about the leadership. I don't think it has to be Harvey tho, and I don't think it has to be an 'Alpha' guy to take charge. And it doesn't have to be established right now. Leadership takes on different roles and personalities, and evolves.

Imo the two guys that really led the team last year going down the stretch were Cuddyer and Uribe.

I'd like to see Grandy and d'Arnaud start to take on some of the responsibility now. It is taking on responsibility, from a position of respect. And Wright is there too. He has a role in leadership also. Is he 'the leader'? Maybe not. He doesn't have to be.

It also comes from the top, including Sandy and Terry. They showed last year that they were on top of that and provided it. They don't get credit for that tho. Especially Collins. They way they handled the media last year was artful too.

You make a great point tho. I don't think it's something to be alarmed about. One of things about the makeup of the team is that Sandy made sure to accumulate solid people. This isn't the '86 Mets that were loaded with guys out partying all night...to put it mildly.

    Let's enjoy the season :)

We've seen plenty of Chris Young. There is no reason these guys can't tee off on him for a few runs to give us an early lead.

SideNote --> If I see David Wright foul off a fastball to the backstop on a pitch he should drive into the gap I am going to lose it. Chris Young doesn't throw hard whatsoever. Turn on one for once.

Well that was fun. 3 straight strike outs after he gives up the triple!

Nice win. 1st of many hopefully.

When Noah is on , he's as good as any pitcher in the league. Ceiling is the limit with this kid.

Let's hope the offense wakes up against the Phils on Friday.

Big opportunity to start off nicely with them and the Fish coming up the next 6 games at home.

I loved Murph but Walker is a professional hitter AND professional fielder. Beautiful at bats today.

I met Sandy a few times and he just did not like Murph. I couldn't figure out whether it was a personal thing or about his approach to the game. It was ALL about hitting. I think that annoyed Alderson.

We were under the stands a few games and all we saw was Murph in the batting cage taking literally a hundred cuts before the game.

I didn't know the Mets sold the Mike Piazza 9/11 jersey. What were they thinking?

    Really? To who?

What, did they buy a Duke Snyder jersey?

That's says all you need to know about the Coupons. They really suck. They're sickening

We have a few good men leading the franchise, in spite those two fucks....thankfully

Where would they display it? Doesnt quite fit with their Brooklyn Dodgers shrine that Citi Field is lol.

Pretty disgusting that they would sell something not only so close to the franchises history but also something so close to NYC's history. A lot of people smiled and cheered for the first time in over a week during that moment , and they toss it off to a collector. They really must've needed that 50 grand. Even if it went to charity , which Im sure it didnt , its still pointless to sell.

Doesnt shock me with this ownership group though.
