Macc and Fitz are in a good 'ol fashion stare down.

Fitz knows he's our best option at QB and Mac DOES NOT want to go into the season with Geno/Petty tandem. $15M/yr sounds about right.
Macc knows we may be Fitz's only option. $7M/yr sounds about right.

    Well,
With Kaepernick apparently signing with Denver, according to Adam Scheftner, Fitz is running out of options

Fitz has no options. Jets seem to be the only team even interested.

I have to admit. If Macc gets Fitz to sign for under 10 mill then he will have gone into full on pimp status with me.

If Fitz has to sign with the Jets for a contract that he isn't entirely thrill with, I wonder if that will have an effect on his performance. You see it sometimes with athletes who sign large contracts who at times lose their desire to put in effort, and just straight out lose the motivation. Maybe you can see that with someone who isn't getting paid what they think they should be getting paid.

Last time he signed a 5/50mil deal he didn't have any receivers half as good as Marshall and Decker.

I don't think so. While none of us truly know who these guys are at heart, Fitz appears to me to be a profesional who can and will separate business from his job.

There was an article a month or so ago that quoted HC Todd Bowles on this very aspect. There was a player or players in the same situation with the Cards in 2014. Bowles talked with the player or players before they re-signed and said something to the effect that if they weren't going to be happy and give their all to the team, NOT to re-sign with them, that he didn't want them if they weren't going to be happy and motivated. That was when he was only the DC. Now that he's head coach, I'm sure that he'll have that same talk with Fitz.

And judging by what we've seen of Fitz, I don't think he's even going to have that talk.

Fitz will either sign and bury the hatchet or he'll retire.

I agree that Fitz probably wouldn't need the talk, but I imagine that Bowles would still have it with him nevertheless.

He played hard last season for peanuts, 2.5 mil I think, tripling his pay is pretty good money.

There may be half a dozen players in the NFL that get what they think they're worth.

Honestly I think a lot of this waiting is just till the Jets clear cap space (re: trade Mo, cut/restructure D'Brick). We have like 500k of cap space. Even if Macc signed Fitz to the deal he wanted he'd still need to clear several million first. Have we even heard word one from Fitz or his agent since the first week of FA?

Honestly I rather keep Wilkerson and let Fitz sign somewhere else.Let Geno and Petty battle it out .Wilk is in his Prime and who knows what the future holds for Fitz.Basically what it would be like is we would be trading Wilkerson for Fitzpatrick.....in what universe does that make sense.Mac should have thought about this before giving Revis 39 mill guarnteed.

How would you feel about an incentive laden contract in which he could earn up to $15 mil but with a base of $8

Mo and Fitz aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. We may well have the space for both, but trading Mo can bring us assets in the event that we can't come to terms with him.
