Yeah.. Cowboys may be the furthest fetched trade rumor yet. Still don't see a link for this posted anywhere...
Linking a thread you started, that does not include a link or article to the specutaltion, is not a link to a reported rumor. Not sure if trolling or just stupid.
I don't see the Cowboys having the cap space to sign Mo but Jerry Jones has done a lot of cap manipulation in the past and he might be able to find room for the monster deal.
So it sounds like Jets may want MORE than just swapping picks (20th vs 4th) for giving up Mo. Jets may want O-Line help and/or a day 3 pick in addition to Dallas' 4th overall. Take it!!!
Bears look to be the team most interested in Mo. Perhaps we can find a way to swap first rounders with them and move up to 11.
I feel like Chicago will be our key to getting this done. They have the need for a DE, they have the money to pay him, and they have the attractive draft picks. Plus it seems Mac may know exactly how to butter to the bears GM lol, because i still don't understand how we get Marsh for basically nothing.
Maybe swap 1sts and 2nds and get the Bears 4th round pick? That would give the Jets the 11 and the 41 and the 127 and $15.7M in cap space. The Bears would get the 20 and the 51 and Wilkerson. It's one way to get a deal done and clear the cap space and clearly benefit in the process. The difference between the positions in both rounds plus the 4th is worth about the 36 pick. The Jets would get back to 7 picks in the draft and have much better sniping position on a QB (if that's what they want) in the 1st or certainly a LT and they'd have a better shot at landing the LB/RT they want with the 41.
I wouldn't say it's a rip-off, but it's fair compensation given the circumstances. Bears need to shell out a contract for Mo, and to be honest I would prefer him going to the NFC and not a team like the Raiders. Jets and Mo don't seem to coming to a contract agreement, keeping him under that cap figure could hurt from signing the players we are attempting to sign, even if this cap issue is just for this season. If possible, I would rather just keep him for one more year and see what happens, moving up 9 spots isn't a monumental deal in this draft. Puts you outside of the QBs, Myles Jack, Elliot and the best OT available. I guess you take what you can get.
Ronnie Stanley could be there at #11 and he could replace Brick immediately. So could Laquon Treadwell or Darron Lee. Would you like any of those players? The Jets could also then possibly trade down a few spots and take Jack Conklin and still have Brick's replacement. I'm curious on your take in my Trade Conjecture thread. Also, I think it's pretty evident that Mo and the Jets are not going to come to terms on a new deal. He refused to negotiate last year during the season. Why should this year be any different? If he hasn't signed a new deal by the start of the league year, I think the chances of his re-signing with the Jets will be officially nil. Keeping him for this year would then be worst possible thing we could do unless no one offers anything higher than a 3rd round compensatory pick this year for him. I think we need to take what we can get for him now, and get the cap space we need.
Moving up from 20 to 11 isn't much better if even at all better than a compensatory pick. The Jimmy Johnson draft chart, which equates that moveup to a mid 2nd rounder, is a relic that was never accurate in the first place. It seriously overrates trading up.
I would rather trade Mo for an early 2nd rounder than do a trade up. Unless we can trade up to 4, at which point I would consider it. Ideally I would want a 1st rounder, but I'm not sure we would get it. The other option is to plan to tag Mo twice and use that as leverage for a long term deal. But of course, that may not work.
i dont like the 11 spot. anyone i take their is likely on the board at 20 or close enough where i can move up a spot or 2 to make it happen
Unfortunately, you not liking the spot will not determine if the trade goes down. I would rather not trade Mo all together, but you won't get much better value then this type of offer to swap firsts and especially when the Jets have little to no leverage.
It's fine that you don't like the #11 spot. I can understand that. It is a bit of an awkward spot in this draft considering where players are projected to go and the positions we hope will be addressed. The thing is, we don't know how Mac has players rated. He may really like a player and have him rated higher than the media, and that player might be sitting there at #11, but not much lower. I also think there's a decent chance that Stanley could still be there at #11. My big objection to your post is your saying you could trade up a spot or two. To begin with trading up always takes a willing trade partner. IMO I think any talk of trading up is silly. The Jets cannot afford to do that. They need MORE picks, not less. Due to Tanny's constant trading up, and both his and Idzik's plethora of missed picks, the Jets still holes in their roster at key starting positions and depth. At #11, I think one would have an easier time trading down than one would trading up from #20, and by trading down, one gets an additional pick or picks.
