If you're going to throw a young QB that had no business playing into the fire, then you better give him good support to compensate and to minimize the mistakes that the unready rookie is going to make. We didn't do that. Granted it still doesn't excuse the mistakes he made on the field. But having good receivers around him that will cover up his deficiencies would've helped.

With Sanchez he looked like the same average AT BEST QB with AND without talent around him. With Geno we hadn't really seen it for more than a few games. Last year he had Decker who was banged up and in and out of the lineup. When Decker was healthy Geno looked solid and in the games he missed Geno struggled. Look how Geno played at the end of 2014 once we had a healthy Decker, Amaro getting more snaps and Harvin. So with Decker and Marshall I think he can be productive. Now if he has those receivers healthy and he still stinks then it's time to move on.

What is Geno's potential? I keep hearing that he has potential, but I have not ever seen any semblance of potential (outside of one Dolphins game) lol.

I understand the rational that if you have more talent around you, it should elevate you game. GeNo just Dosent pass the eye test to warrant that argument for me. The entire basis of the QB position is to maximize the lack of talent around you. Geno just Dosent do the little things that would make a big impact. The little things like....being likable and understanding what's going on ore-snap.

Idc what profession you're in, if you're likable you will get the max out of the people around you. A guy like Fitz does this. Same goes with vocational expertise. This is the area that probably concerns me the most with Geno. He continues to make the same mistakes time and time again. Watch the tape, you'll see it.

I'm not willing to trust that he now automatically gets it. I'm excite to see if he has progressed in this area specifically during preseason and camp. I think it's going to be hard for him even if he has improved in that area because he has obviously alienated a lot of the locker room...

you can say the same thing about fitzpatrick... he was nothing more then a product of gailey's offense and Marshall/Decker and a weak schedule. I dont know about fitz having "success" under multiple co-ordinators. he really hasnt had much success in his career period.

    1) Hoyer is light years better then geno. it isnt close. Hoyer is on par with fitz, maybe better. Geno is the worst QB in football. hoyer is a below avg to avg NFL starter

    2) 1 game sample is completely meaningless. regardless of how big/small the game is. you simply cant judge a player based on 1 game

    3) houston should have won? how so? houston was the better team with the better record and the hottest team in football. Not to mention their defense was lights out the last 10 weeks of the season. Hoyer isnt the only guy they made look awful. Carr, Rivers, roethlisberger all got smacked too during that stretch

there is no reason to continue. that sums it up. Geno is the worst qb in football with no upside.

But if Decker coughs, then Geno obviously needs more time, right?

How many QB's can maximize the lack of talent around them? Prime Peyton? Brady, Rodgers, prime Brees, maybe Luck? Look how Rodgers struggled this year at times without Jordy. Look how Brady looked when Edelman, Gronk and Amendola were out, he struggled. Rodgers is unlikable, Big Ben, etc. But no one cares just as long as the team is winning. Fitzpatrick been making the same mistakes for 11 years and that's excused, so I will give the benefit of the doubt to a young QB that still has upside.

All the quarterbacks you mentioned still had winning seasons...Aaron Rodgers isn't likable?? What are you talking about. Guy is the opposite of arrogant and his teammates love playing with him. Apples and oranges my man.

The Geno love from you is pure infatuation at this point. Just be honest with yourself. It's like dating the smoking hot girl with insecurity issues and is on antidepressant meds. She continually shows you she's a train wreck but you keep making excuses for her because you're infatuated with her look and potential. But all she is going to end up doing is disappointing you...get over her and move on man

You said that likability is a factor, well there has been teammates that have come out and said that Rodgers was a jerk.

I think the guy has talent, does he have his issues? Yes. But I think there is something there to work with.

The big difference between Fitz last year and Geno his first 2 years is that the amount of scoring plays Fitz was directly responsible for outweighed his mistakes. My biggest issue with Geno is that he does not make enough plays to have ignore his mistakes.

Tell me again the wideouts Geno played with? That has a lot to do with it.

Fair point. Can't argue against that. My only thing is that I'm willing to give Geno the benefit of the doubt because he's still a young QB.

No way... 2 years is plenty of time to judge a QB who been on shit teams. Cut Geno now.

2 years/29 games is a ton for a 2nd round pick. 2nd and later round picks RARELY get such opportunities. The minute handful that have, earned it by playing exceptionally well.

If Fitz does come back Geno and Bryce will be battling it out for the number two. Geno Smith better have developed because Bryce Petty has the things Geno Smith Dosent. Guy is as likable as they come (iv seen and read some articals and I think he connects to the majority of the fan base) he is well spoken and seems like he makes the quick read. That's what today's NFL is all about. Setting up the deep ball with the quick intermediate pass.

This is something I have yet to see Geno Smith be able to do. His motion and arm talent is a better fit for a deep strike offense that is set up with a power run game. Geno reminds me a lot of Brandon Weeden or Collin Kapernick when it comes to arm talent. That's not what this offense is based upon. This offense is a quick read offense with large "jump ball" receivers.

I think Geno could be successful with some speed guys like Mike Wallace or D. Jackson on the outside a large possession TE and a power blocking run game. His talents are not best utilized here and in today's NFL IMO. He may have been drafted 15 years to late and could use some people skill classes...
