I disagree. The moment you start swinging your stuck, deliberately, at player's faces you've lost all bearing of the rules and how you can retaliate within them and need a significant lesson that only a lengthy suspension can provide. The only thing I can think of that could exceed that would be taking off your skate and hacking at your opponents throat with it.
Keith got 1 game in 2013 for slashing Jeff Carter in the face. He'll get 5 for this one. Which really doesnt mean much in the long run since the Hawks have 5 games left before the playoffs. Pussy move.

That was a pos shit move by Carter in the first place slashing Keith's bare hand/wrist which could've easily ended up a navicular wrist fracture (which can be a nasty, lengthly rehab). I took a frame-by-frame look at Keith's retaliation and what's sleezy is that he turned the toe of his stick black back towards Carter's face in a hooking motion. Face guard or not, Carter could've ended up with a 'Barry Ashbee' eye.
I was going to say, when I was reading about the Keith thing last night, the thought was that the punishment would be more severe because he's a repeat offender (Carter). Last night was funny because they had to give van riemsdyk and other guys heavy minutes without their top two defensemen.
Breakout player Vincent Trocheck done for the regular season and likely the playoffs with what I believe is a broken foot. This is huge for Florida's chances. He has been hot lately with 25 goals on the year in his first full season. Bummer
Caps are at the Flyers tonight. President's Trophy in hand. Yet still starting Holtby and looks like everyone but Oshie will be getting a sweater. I am not saying to bench the team, but this is a potential Round 1 match-up against a desperate team. I would not risk injury or show my hand against a potential opening round opponent. How would you guys handle tonight? How would you handle the final 7 games with nothing to play for?
Yeah, I think so too. 3 or 4 starts. As for the Flyers, you may have motivation to beat them just to AVOID them in the opening round. The Wings are close behind.
