Saying that Wentz is overhyped is not saying much. At this point it has to be a given that the QB class will be overhyped as that's been the case nearly EVERY YEAR in recent draft history. IMHO, I think Wentz and Goff are significantly better prospects than Lynch. If you believe Wentz/Goff are a late first round prospects in terms of grades like I do, then Lynch is a 2nd or 3rd round prospect. If they are really 3rd round guys in your eyes, then Lynch is a 4th rounder and so on.

The whole reason I fell in love with Wentz very early was because I saw a talented QB prospect who graded out where we would be drafting. Now that hype train has gotten off the rails to the point he's projected as a top 5 pick, he's no longer attractive as the value is no longer there.

Not a Lynch fan but his superior size and athleticism makes him a much more appealing propect than Petty. Though he hasn't done it a lot, he's also actually taken snaps from under center which would be another evaluation edge over Petty.

So he actually doesn't rate as a first round prospect it would seem. Hope Mac doesn't get overanxious.

I mean he was really young and under developed. He should have never been starting to begin with. I think he is ready now.

I don't believe this is an accurate statement. Source?

You're right, it's not. He was just the worst starting quarterback in 2013 and 2014. Find me someone worse. Have you went back and watched the game tape? I have. He'll be a career backup if he's lucky and I'd bet he's out of the league quicker than you think.

Whilst I'd agree that he has some size advantage Petty is a very big dude. Almost prototypical size. So not superior in the truest sense.

And whilst I'd agree that Lynch may be a tad more athletic, I think Petty is a very athletic QB, he is certainly no stiff so whilst he won't be a running QB, he will definitely be an opportunistic runner. He's not a statue.

And the snaps under center red herring is done. For nearly 2 years now.

Lynch taking snaps under center against Tulsa and Navy and SMU is not comparable to what Petty has done for the last year plus.

He's been taking snaps under center in an NFL offense for nearly 2 years now.

Was he taking snaps under center at Baylor?

I dont even think they are comparable myself. They are too vastly different players. And in terms of prospects, 1 is a first round QB, the other a mid round.

Lynch is twice the athlete Petty is. Lynch is a rare bird, a 6'7 QB that has the ability to see over anyone. His foot speed, for a guy that size, is truly special. He's not a tuck and run type so much either, he has the ability to maneuver around the pocket that is rare for QBs coming into this league. Extremely rare for a guy his size, almost generational in that regard. That's why I've compared him to Ben Roethlisberger, but even Roethlisberger isn't 6'7. He doesn't have the passing skils of Roethlisberger (yet?) so he's kind of a cross between Roethlisberger and Marcus Mariota. (obviously those are projections on HOW they play not in terms of ability)

Lynch is a risk in accuracy though, but even if he doesn't improve that and doesn't reach his potential, he will always be a hell of a red zone QB in terms of a nightmare matchup for defenses there IMO.

Petty perhaps gets the edge in traditional passing skills, accuracy and arm strength. But other that that he doesn't compare to Lynch. The "taking snaps under center" thing isn't the biggest deal really its more about reading defenses, progressions, etc... Petty did NONE of that at Baylor. It was quick strike, one read, and go. While Lynch isn't Joe Montana back there, he has his own concerns with reading defenses, at least he was ASKED to do it in college.

IMO I'm glad Petty is on the roster but he shouldn't factor into Jets plans no matter what. He's working towards a solid career as an NFL backup, project QB. Where-as if they decide they like Lynch, his potential is higher. You don't fore-go a first round QB because you have a project like Petty, unless he's lighting it up everyday in practice which I doubt.

Petty was the third best QB in a massive two QB class. Lynch is the third best QB in an incredibly weak class.

Was EJ Manuel a first round talent? Was Geno a second round talent?

Petty was and is a better QB.

Thank you for conceding. Those three skills trump tallness and athleticiness. If those are words :D

First round QBs in really weak classes do not impress me.

Would you rather have EJ as a "first round QB" or Petty in the 4th.

Petty is a superior player to Lynch IMHO.

He's not a backup, he's a gunslinger that needed to learn a pro offense. That he's been in for nearly 2 years.

You said Petty has been taking snaps under center for 2 years. He has only been in the NFL for 1 year.

So was he taking snaps under center at Baylor (where he was 2 years ago) or were you just talking out of your ass?

And who doesn't like goat cheese? Tsk tsk.

disagree! on Petty but I hope you are right.

and this class of QBs isn't weak at all like the 2013 Geno/Manuel class. That's unfair. This class of QBs doesn't have the surefire superstar prospect at the top but that doesnt mean itss weak overall. Its actually deep group of mixed talented players, just nothing elite. I am a little drunk so its hard to describe, lol, but compared to last year which had 2 guys at the top and then a BIG drop off, this years class have more of a solid run on "good but not great" prospects.

if this was a strip club and not football last year's draft featured a couple world class 10 strippers that all the got all the guys reaching for their wallets. Then they brought in a bunch of meh's... 6s & 7s... petty one of them. The house made out because ya'll got the wallets out.

This year's strip club features no Kate Upton's sure, but a longer stretch of 8s. Well worth the night out and someone's walking home with a nice story about a cheap lap dance they got value out of. (wouldn't mind if its our Jets)

2013 QB class was like a tuesday night where all the good girls take the night off. And your crazy friend "Buffalo Bill" dropped a 50 on the stage for a backup broad because he was desperate for some

-okay i am too drunk ad rambling. good day sir

That was a throw away comment.

I've loved goat cheese for ever.

Petty was likely training with a QB coach the day his Baylor career ended in preparation for the draft and spent the past year taking snaps under center.

    Baylor was a lifetime ago.

But if you want to look to what he was doing 2 or 3 or 4 years ago as opposed to what he's been doing since he graduated, since he joined an NFL program, have at it.

Hahaha the only reason I'm looking at two years ago is bc you told us to (by saying what he was doing two years ago).

I thought maybe you knew something I didn't.

I have no problem with people talking out of there ass so don't take it to heart.

I read articles that he was training with a QB coach taking snaps from under center prior to his senior season and after his senior season in anticipation of the draft and he has been in an NFL offense for a year plus last offseason.

Yeah, he's better at taking snaps from under center than Lynch.

I want to Love Petty but he is kinda like that Christmas present under the tree that is rectangular and most likely is a sweater but you have hope it's an action figure...

I just don't think we will get an answer until he gets a shot. Pre season will give us a glimpse and hopefully he earns a look.

I'm going to TC this year it will be interesting to see how he stacks up live. See his arm and reads vs TBs D.

I am definitely hopeful about Petty but in no way should he stop the Jets from taking another young QB if there's one available they like.

I'm pretty certain at least one if not more of the top 3 prospects make it to 20 and I'm happy to hear Jets are at least doing due diligence on them.
