If this is the case, the return for him shouldn't be that high in a trade. If he is just a good player and strongly benefited from the rest of the D, why would anyone pay a 2nd for him, keeping in mind that they have to pay him a huge amount of money?

He can definitely choose not to take a large contract with a lot of guaranteed money this year. At that point he's one chop block away from never getting his big deal and he turned it down before that happened.

I suspect he'll take his big deal if it is out there and presented to him. Hitting the free market is great but he has no guarantee he will get there healthy and after 2 season ending injuries the last 2 years he has to be wondering what the chances are of making it through next season whole.

Didn't the NFL just outlaw chop blocks? If so, he has a little less with which to be worried.

The new rule does not apply to players hit while wearing green/white uni

I keep thinking that if Mo would be traded where could he go.. It would have to be a team with a high 2nd, a OL and cap space to sign him. The Browns keep popping up because they have the money to pay him long term, they need a stud DT beside Danny Sheldon and they have the assets...

I don't like making trades but I'll take a shot.

Browns trade 32nd overall (2nd rounder) + Joe Thomas for Mo Wilkerson.

Browns draft Laremy Tunsil 2nd overall to replace Joe Thomas (Titans take Ramsey). We cut Brick and Breno for Joe Thomas and draft Taylor Decker with 32nd overall.

I'd do that trade in a NY minute, but I don't think Decker will be there at #32, nor do I think Tunsil will be there at #2. I think Tunsil is going #1 overall.

Sounds great but I'm not sure Cleveland would agree to that.

If the Titans trade the pick, the new team, like the Rams for example, will probably go QB.

Just spitballing here. Say Fitz ends up in Denver. TB says they want a first for Glennon. They'll never get that from anyone, but would they consider taking Mo? If we lose Fitz and are far apart with Mo, coming out with Glennon and a ton of cap space doesn't sound too bad. Meanwhile TB gets a perennial Pro Bowl DL for a QB they won't use.

Tunsil might go #1 but the Jalen Ramsey train is picking up speed.. Plus they have their starting LT in Lewan keep in mind.. I think if Tunsil slips past the Titans the Browns take him and move Thomas.. I was just spitballing but with 20 and 32, between those 2 picks we could draft a RT to replace Breno.

The way I see it in that situation by trading Mo for Thomas + 32 and cut Brick/Breno. We get enough cap space to sign/trade for a QB and it basically gives us 2 1st round pick plus a all star LT for the next 3/4 years.

Honestly Glennon isn't worth more than a 3rd.. He's a FA at the end of the year and could walk if he chooses.. To risky to give up a pro bowler for a back up QB in a contract year. I would do a 3rd with a conditional 3rd in 2017 if he resigns.

They tried to trade JT last year already and if Tunsil is there from their POV they get a legit LT for 10 years and a pro bowl DT. Suddenly they improve tremendously in the trenches.

If the Jets could get this it would be a good way out of the Mo dilemma and that's true even though Thomas is a 50/50 cut each year moving forward. The thing that makes it a good deal is that the Jets get the 32 back for Mo and are in good sniping position if one of the QB's falls out of the 1st and they decide they want him. In that situation maybe they even trade up slightly into the 1st to get the 5th year option on the QB if he works out and to make sure they get him.

Watch the Raiders get hyper-aggressive in re-signing Carr after this season because they don't have the 5th year option to fall back on and he's going to be a QB nearing free agency in 2018.

That's why Minnie traded up for Teddy a few years ago.

I think with that trade it frees up a lot of options at QB. Trading for one because we have cap space (Kap, Glennon, Foles), signing Fitz or drafting one either at 20 or 32.

In that scenario where we trade Mo and cut both Brick and Breno we would free up $23+ mil in cap space with taking on JTs contract. Plus we overhaul our OTs moving forward.

What kind of money does Fitz get in this scenario?

I would think we would have to bend a bit and give him 10-11 per on a 2 year deal.

It's more than I personally think he is worth (9 is the max I believe he is worth) but let's face it he would be a decent option that wouldn't cost us assets and does know the system well and has good chemistry with our WRs.. If we draft we are using a pick if we trade we are using a pick.. This way it's just straight cash and we can use our picks in other areas of need...

But if that fails and he won't take 10-11 then fuck him and use a pick on a trade or drafting a QB.

They could trade the pick, I guess. It depends on which players they like, what they see as their most critical needs, draft philosophy, etc. With the shape their OL is in and with a great young QB like Mariota, unless someone totally blew me away with a trade down offer, I'm not sure I'd take it, as protecting Mariota's blind side is more important than 3-4 additional good players. What difference will it make how good those additional players are, if Mariota goes down with a serious injury?

I think that's the only possible trade for Glennon with which I could get on board. I wouldn't want to give up a draft pick for him. The thing is, I'm not sure if Glennon would be a fit in Gailey's offense. He doesn't seem to be very mobile. Does he make quick, good decisions and have a quick release?

I don't know. He put up decent numbers on really bad teams, unlike Geno who put up bad numbers. I heard he plays most like Flacco, so he might not be a good fit.
