Indeed it is, but I have a feeling that if a trade is coming it'll be before or during the draft, and that seems more likely than a new contract.
Theoretical trade alert: How would you feel about Mo to the Redskins straight up for their #21 pick? Edit: the question's really about the value as opposed to whether or not the skins would make the trade.
Reports of the Jets shopping Mo are running rampant right now. My take on this: Shameful. I don't like seeing the Jets spending all that money last season on Free Agents but then not retaining a home grown, class act, player like Wilkerson. He has been a dominant DE in the Jets D, yet has never experienced the playoffs yet. I would like him to do that in Green and White. Can't keep everyone. That is true. But the Jets trading Revis in 2013 or possibly Wilkerson this year is terrible. It's why the Jets are who they are. That, and not being able to groom a QB.
If he is looking for Watt money, than he shouldnt be kept. If they can get a few draft picks for him, than I would sign up. I like him, but tying that much money to one player who isnt a QB is a bad move. I think the Jets DL will be just fine with Richardson/Williams/Mclendon/Jenkins. If Leonard makes a big jump, the line could be even better than last year.
Part of me thinks they might wait until draft day and use him to trade up into the early half of the first round. If we traded our #20 and Wilkerson, how many slots could we theoretically move up in the first? It does sadden me that we can't keep our homegrown talent, but if his demands are too high they are too high. Unfortunately nobody seems to know what he's asking for. Are the Jets low balling him or is he just demanding way to much?
17 million. which is a ton but he plays a much different position and is not easily replaced like a dt is. he at the top of his game is, maybe was at this point the best corner in the league and the best corner the jets had ever seen. hes also on the third year of a 5 year deal that he probably wont see the end of. id take a d line without Wilkerson long before I would take our current defensive backfield without revis.
I've been thinking that for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a trade agreed to in principle but it wasn't made public until the pick. For example if we had the Raiders pick I wouldn't want the Rams to trade ahead of us. The comish will just announce it at the podium. Wilk for #14 is win-win
We should have re-signed him earlier but we can't give him the money he wants even if we had the space. He's not a JJ Watt type player.
This is unlikely in my opinion. The Raiders aren't going to trade their 1st round pick without tying Mo up long-term before they do that. Mo isn't going to agree to a deal and then sit on his hands for 6 weeks until the draft when he doesn't know whether or not the deal is going to go through depending on what other teams do during the draft. The problem in the Mo trade market right now is that there are many moving pieces involved and Mo has control of at least a few of them. He probably does not want to relocate far away except in the case that that's the only way to get a huge deal. He's probably looking at the Eagles and The Giants and upset because both of them committed major money to a defensive tackle this year and are not likely suitors for him in free agency next year. Step 1 in getting a Mo deal done is finding a suitor for him that is willing to pay the contract. That's the basis for any deal that gets the Jets reasonable draft pick compensation in return.
The Colts seem like a realistic option with a need to improve the D, lots of Cap space, and a mid round selection. At 18 the Colts could draft a good DL with lots of potential or they could trade that pick to the Jets for an established young star. The problem is the market for DL right now is cray cray after that Malik Jackson contract. Mo is going to want at least that and maybe more given the nature of inflating contracts.
I believe you misread their point 1&2. He meant "he (when) at the top of his game is, maybe was the best corner in the league" So 1 wasn't a point but a lead in to a point which the way it was phrased is not debatable.

i agree, i said the same in another thread ... if were really moving mo (which i am against) then the colts should be the target
Exactly - nobody is giving a up the farm without knowing they have Mo locked up. However, Mo could easily also refuse to sign an extended deal as part of a trade - take the huge payday from the Jets this year and then hit the open market.
