When McCown has weapons he is kindof serviceable. Its interesting that they are looking at him (if true.)

In my opinion it means the Jets feel they need an experienced hand to start the season and then they want to see what Petty can do. It would be a major gamble as they have a win now roster but by mid-season he should have enough time watching and learning to throw him out there and see what he can do.

They do NOT have a win-now roster. Please stop with that nonsense.

No need to belittle posters who say we have a win now roster. You're entitled to your opinion but theirs is valid too.

Now that the Browns have RG3, Mccown will be traded, or at least added to the block.

No surprise there, but I personally am not interested.

I'd much rather start Geno or Petty (if he's ready) than start McCown.

I can't imagine the jets want McCown to start. If he signs as a back up thats one thing. Thats kinda pointless too.

No need to sign a scrub to compete with scrubs. You still end up getting scrubbed.

Well, if there will be no Fitz (I still think there will be when all is said and done), then it makes sense to have a veteran backup on the roster. I would assume that Geno would start. (Remember, all reports have indicated that Geno was almost definitely going to be the starter last year before he got Chris Browned in training camp)

But what value does McCown add? Hes not a proven winner or even reliable back up. In fact as much as the Browns CS hated Manziel, it was to the point they rather start him begrudgingly. Just roll with Petty. Im still hoping Fitz doesnt come back.

It's generally considered a good idea to have a veteran at the position, on the roster. I agree that McCown is nothing to get excited about and I'm hoping the Jets pass on him.

However, given that the Jets reportedly don't think Petty is ready to take the reigns, I don't think that actively hoping for Fitz not to return makes much sense.

Well i cant imagine theyd not sign someone else but the person would be a lot cheaper than Fitz or McCown.

I doubt Rams get McCown. Could go to Denver. If he does go to Denver it would mean Fitz would have no other options. At the same time the Jets need to call him up today and see where he's at. Need to get a deal done now or move on.

Thats the million dollar question. But i do know one thing. If you have 2 qbs, you have none. And it sounds like well have 2 qbs.

I'm sorry, but I disagree. Whereas I respect every poster, not every opinion is valid imo. Mac has stated several times that he is just trying to keep the team as competitive as possible while he rebuilds the roster. The very idea of going "all in" or having a "win now" approach when you don't have a quality QB, a consistent pass rush, and have a shaky OL is just silly and misinformed. No competent or sane GM would do that.

Jets are not a win now team. We aren't making a deep run into the playoffs anytime soon. Our chance was last season and we fucked it up. The playoffs looked perfect last season. We won't have as much luck with a tougher schedule. Don't let last year fool you.
