Not sure if new or not: Tony Pauline @TonyPauline 3m3 minutes ago More from Florida pro-day where word is the NY Jets are shopping & listening to offers for Muhammad Wilkerson
I think it wasn't unexpected for us, as Macc didn't say it publicly, but all of us knew that phone lines are active for him + my opinion is that it's the best for everyone. He will get his money, till we extra power on draft + cap space.
it freaking sucks...I like Mo alot, but we were ready for this possibly happening. I like the Big Cat, and even though Shelden is a great player he is also all about the money when his time comes but that guy is like 1 mistake away from missing a whole season.
We should have signed him to like 12 million several seasons ago. Not buying a Jets jersey in awhile if he is traded!
I call dibs on the Muhammad Wilkerson appreciation thread when he's traded for a late 2nd round pick. Last jersey I got was David Harris and I don't see myself buying another jersey anytime soon. Was gonna get a Mo one.
Same Old Jets another case where another impact player in his prime is catapulted from the team due to contract issues....wash , rinse, repeat....
The reality is that Richardson could miss up to all of this season for offenses past. I think the Jets probably have that factored in and they're still trading Mo because the contract is too big to make him a reasonable sign at this point. The Jet's DL next year might well be Jarvis Jenkins - Steve McClendon - Leonard Williams, with Lorenzo Mauldin IV rushing from the outside. They'd also have Mike Catapano as an outside rusher and Deon Simon as the backup at NT plus another draftee late in the draft somewhere. This isn't Rex's team any more and his priorities are not ruling the defensive talent base. The old 3-4/46 is probably toast. Most of the big bodies that made it work from 2012 to 2014 aren't likely to be on the team next year. No Snacks, probably no Mo, no Pace, no Coples, etc.
It's not a bad thing, this time we don't have the Idzik and Rex debacle to screw it up. If Mo is traded, I have confidence in Mac that he will make it work out for the Jets.
Again, if Mo gets traded and S-Rich ends up fucking up, our d-line goes from a big strength to a big weakness. Mac is taking a big gamble here if he trades Mo.
Well our big strength didn't bring us any play off appearance for the past 4 years. I say let Mac take the gamble and see what happens.
Good point. But still, if a very strong D line didn't take us to the promised land in the past, why tie a lot of money to it to expect a different result. I don't hate Mo but it is now 2 GM's who couldn't sign him up to a long term contract. Maybe he is really pricing himself out you know. I truly trust Mac and I believe he will do the right thing whether it is to sign Mo to a long term contract or trade him away.
Seriously, this has been happening since John fucking Riggins. Jets managment is like multigenerational welfare dependents.
if the jets can't come to terms with Mo you have to trade him can't let him walkand get nothing....the have been negotiating for years
Not necessarily. It only becomes a weakness if Mac allows it to and doesn't draft or sign replacements.
Yep. That's okay, though, because people will spend the next 3 years rationalizing the move with the same old arguments. "contract year", "bad fit", "shrewd cap management", etc. Then when they aren't happy with the team years down the road, when he's wrapping up his HOF career and retiring in another uniform, they can privately feel like idiots and maybe even pretend they didn't make those arguments.
