I would like to apologize. I looked back on a lot of old threads and I notice that alot of you underestimated the jets last year too so I'll just take the wait and see position. Jets69 I went through ALOT of posts and notice that you've never added something well thought out or insightful. Sarcastic? Yes. Critical? Yes. Snarky? Absolutely. Well thought out or insightful? Nope. I had to put my laptop away eventually bc the battery was getting low so maybe there's something you said before 2014 but I didn't see
Thanks for your response. The Broncos may not have a QB at the moment, but I'm sure they will have one soon. I can't believe they held off on signing Osweiler, just to give Peyton time to make a decision. As the old saying goes, "No good deed goes unpunished." The Broncos still will have a great D with Von Miller, Trevathan and others, and they still have offensive talent. Losing Osweiler and Jackson will definitely hurt. It will just mean they won't be a slam dunk to be back in the SB next season. I'm aware of how bad the Raiders have been, but they have a pretty good QB now, and have been adding some talent over the last couple of years. I wouldn't dismiss them offhand. With regards to the Ravens, you do realize that they had more players on IR than any other team last season, right? Losing Osemele will hurt, but Ozzie Newsome hasn't been one of the best GMs in the game over the last 5-10 years without reason. I don't believe the Jets have beaten them in about that long. Hopefully, that ended with Rex's departure, but until we actually play and beat them or they start having a losing record every season, they will at least potentially be better, if not flat out better. As far as the Bills, we should have beaten them both times last season, and that should continue as long as Rex is their HC. The thing is that we found a way to lose to them both times. Again, until we beat them and show ourselves superior, they have to be considered better. That's how things work. Luck was not healthy last year. He was not the same player by any stretch of the imagination. The Jaguars have added Malik Jackson, Chris Ivory, and maybe others. They were already a pretty good team. We should be better than them, but a combination of our losses and their gains could narrow the gap considerably. They should also have Dante Fowler back. I don't know that much about SD, but I know that they have a pretty fair QB in Phillip Rivers, a great TE in Antonio Gates, just added speedster Travis Benjamin, and has some decent RBs. The Rams are not trash. We could fairly easily go 1-3 against both the NFC West and AFC North. It's interesting that EVERYONE on this board has been talking about the tougher schedule the Jets were going to have to play this season, and you said nothing until now, and have pretty different take. Still, we aren't that far apart in our predictions. I had the team at 8-8 at best, but think that was with Fitz back, and both Mo and Snacks still here. It's going to be interesting definitely.
Wow! That's shocking. I figured with Peyton not coming back, the Broncos would be able to keep Osweiler, and would have to make some moves to be able to keep Jackson, Trevathan and others, but this is crazy!!! Was Denver really offering Jackson and Trevathan that little that they decided to forego a shot at a SB repeat in order to go for the $s elsewhere? IMO this is a sad day in the NFL.
You're cautiously skeptical. I'm cautiously optimistic. Luck wasn't healthy but besides him and the kicker no one on the team is top shelf and I think the coach and GM should have been fired last year. I think our closest comparison is the Broncos. Neither of us has a starting qb in place (we do have one in reserve with two years starting experience like him or not). We both have 2 rockstar receivers, no te but we have a better #1 rb. With their losses I'd say we have the advantage on defense. We also have a higher draft pick for what it's worth. We played well last year although at times out of sink. The coach made a few bad decisions. Assuming the HC is the type of guy that is humble and learns from his mistakes we should be a better "team" this year than they were last year. These are not "the same old jets". Tannenbum is up to his same old tricks and is now driving the Fins into the ground. Rex will show his stripes in a disappointing draft imo. Mac has shown in his short time that he is very shrewd. I can't really judge Bowles as a hc yet but he seems to have character. I know you have been burned in the past. I've only been a fan for a little less than 20 years so maybe I haven't endured the heartache you have. Once bitten twice shy? I get where you come from.
While I'm very high on the job that both Mac and Bowles have done so far, I'm trying to not get ahead of myself and to take things one day at a time. The jury is still out on both of them. I'm really concerned about our OL and lack of pass rush. Once those areas are fixed, I'll be a lot more confident in our team.
I'm in the trade 'mo and get a position of need with the extra pick. (Although it looks like the Browns/Jacksonville might be our only potential partners at this point( mo and our numbers 1&2 for their 1&2)not holding my breath). I am confident that we can fill those holes through the draft this year. Imo the only thing that could put a wrench in that is if a big 3 qb falls to us at 20. Scenario 1: LB,OL,RB/OL, OL/RB, BPA, BPA Scenario 2: QB, OL/LB, RB/BPA, OL/RB/LB,BPA,BPA
Hopefully Petty gets some snaps this season... I'm done with Fitzpatrick i hope the money never comes, he's overrated and was the benefit of an easy schedule, Chan Gailey, Marshall and Decker. Hopefully he can now follow through on his retirement threats, smh like what type of ungrateful bastard are we dealing with here. A nobody before he got here and now he wants 16 mil lol I'm glad Mac has stuck to his guns, do not overpay cause he would have been exposed with this schedule.
Ideally now that some of the guys here are being realistic about who Petty is I'd love for him to develop into a guy like Chase Daniel. Not into the same way he plays but the path that he took where in 3-5 years he's considered a good backup that can start some games. Best case scenario is he gets a chance and never looks back.. worst case scenario the project fails when he never moves from #3 to #2. This of course if he's even on the roster come August.
I'm not sure what this is in relation to but... Yeah. I'm always down on the Giants, saw the Chip Kelly thing a mile away and once the Cowboys got injured it didn't take a psychic to see they were done. I had about the same expectations for the Skins as I did the Giants. Since I wasn't active on the board last year, you'll just have to take my word for it. When I get a chance in a bit, I'll throw up some predictions in the crystal ball forum where I already went against the grain with my prediction (pre trades) that neither the Browns or the Niners would grab a qb in the first.
Petty is going to be on the depth chart for a year or two. Who knows what will happen in that time? Kirk Cousins was buried in Washington and then RGIII fell apart and Cousins is the starter now. Having Hackenberg drafted may well be a good thing for Bryce Petty. Now he gets to be an anonymous QB instead of the great hope for most of the fans and you never know what will happen with injuries and busts above him on the depth chart.
He'll still have a chance to progress and show the coaches he's worth keeping around. The Jets are being smart and trying to hit with one of these guys.
If Mac hits on either Petty or Hack, he'll look like a genius. i like that he increased his odds by bringing in another guy. Still very important to bring Fitz in imo.....i don't see either guy being ready, and they'd benefit from a smart veteran presence.
Petty vs Hack vs Geno this summer!! I'll be at training camp for 2 days. Can't wait to see that competition live!!!!!!
I'm still hoping Fitz comes in from the Cold. It would be great to see the four guys duke it out and see who's odd man out. I'd love to see that. Prolly g-no...He'd have to really prove himself at that point
