I don't want the Jets to spend all of their money on RBs, but I want the team to hold off a year on drafting a RB if possible. Next year has at least 3 players that would all be drafted before Elliot if they were eligible this year. I'm assuming the Jets will add a RB in the draft, but I am hoping the Jets get one in the following draft. I'm also not a fan of Amaro and didn't want the Jets to draft him since he was a glorified slot WR at Texas Tech.
Forte wasn't very durable last season. He had the worst numbers of his career in most categories in spite of playing in 13 games, when the lowest number of games he appeared in was 2011 when he played in only 12 games. He will only be successful here if he's part of a RB by committee.
I don't think it's possible for them to hold off on drafting a RB this year and they may have to draft 2 if they can't re-sign Powell. I think they're going to have to get one in the 2nd or 3rd round. I'm not in favor of 1st round RBs, so the fact that there will be 3 next season who will be drafted before Elliott means nothing to me. I would only use a first round pick on a RB if the Jets were set at every other position and RB was the only hole. At least we're in agreement on Amaro.
This was true of Ivory also, that's my point. Forte brings things to the table that Ivory did not. He's like a more talented version of Powell, who also had durability issues. Now the Jets need to find another back for the RBBC. A real back that can take carries when the Jets want to save some of the tread on Forte's tires when they have a lead late and are just running out the clock.
Compare it with his other stats. He only rushed for 898 of those 1,300 yards. His receptions tied 2012 for the lowest of his career, and his reception yards were the second lowest total of his career.
Zac Stacy isn't that back. Powell could get some of those carries, but he tends to break down too, and who knows if he will be back. I think that other RB is probably going to have to come from the draft either a Booker, Collins, Prosise or Howard.
Wasn't aware of that. When combined with his injury issue, that could explain it. Whatever the case, now that he's a Jet, I'm going to be rooting for him, but I still think we need another quality RB to make it a RB by committee.
I actually don't think this is an Ivory replacement, I think this is a Powell replacement. Forte is great, but he can't handle being the feature back anymore.
Forte could not be more different than Ivory as a RB. You want complimentary RB's, the Forte signing makes signing Powell not as urgent since they both have the same skill set. Jets need a bruiser now for relief duty. Enter in the 4th QTR when opponents defense is gassed.
I thought I heard something about us being interested in Bobby Rainey. He's a big bruiser and would be a good compliment to Forte.
