Ivory can be replaced Fitz isn't worth 15 mil per season ... Snacks will hurt but our line will be fine
Right now the Jets are the fourth best team in the AFC east. If Fitz walks they will be the fifth best.
Can we cut Revis and recoup something back or did we fuck ourselves with that one? Cuz to be honest there are a lot more important positions than CB... And I am 100% fine with Marcus Williams, drafting a CB and Skrine playing the 3rd... I love Revis just as much as the next guy, but not at the expense of the rest of the team.
We can cut him next year and save 10 mil ... if we cut him today that would cost us 23 mil in dead money
No Vernon Gholston Mark Sanchez Kyle Wilson Quinton Coples the entire 2008 draft The entire 2009 draft the entire 2010 draft the entire 2012 draft Tim Tebow
r u guys serious the contacts being handed out right now are literally absurd. absolutely absurd a casual fan might not even know who janoris jenkins is and now he's the 2nd highest paid CB in football. we aren't in cap hell, plenty of teams have it a thousand times worse if we never spent our money, we wouldn't have gone 10-6. it's like no one here has a basic understanding of
He takes on an injured player with an astronomical contract and moves back in the draft on top of it HA
This. When the fanbase was knobbing Mac for overpaying average defensive backs (not Revis), some of us were trying to point out it was a bad idea and that it would cost us a Pro Bowl defensive lineman (or two). Nobody cared because spending money is fun. Also this. We're not in cap hell. We just no longer have the best cap situation in football (like we did before last offseason). Last year we could just overpay any average player we wanted and the money would not run out. Well, it ran out.
What everyone seems to be forgetting is that there is a spending floor for each team which uses a 4 year average. Idziks last year (2014) was year 1, 2015 was year 2 and so on. Because they were so far under the cap two years ago they really had no choice but to have a spending spree last year to take them close to the cap and to end up close to the cap this year as well so that their spending for the 4 year period ending next year is above the floor. The only signing they made last year that was a bad signing was Cro. Pretty much every other signing they made was worthwhile (even Revis at his ridiculous rate and the fact that he's not as good as he used to be). You'll note that Revis's guarantee runs for 2 and 1/2 years and ends when the 4 year average period for the floor covering Idzik's first year. After that Revis gets much cheaper (of course he may be too old then). Also, Harris' $15 million 2 year guarantee also ends after this year. I think the Jets will be more competitive than most people think during the free agency period. Mo will be traded clearing up a bunch of cap space, I think Brick will be cut and there are still a bunch of other cuts coming - Cumberland, Kerley, etc. I don't expect the Jets to bring in any big name free agents, but they will get good players who they expect will thrive in Bowles' system. You just have to be a little patient.
