Can mauldin put his hand down? I don't see him as a olb in a 4-3. That line is pretty slow without mauldin
Easy to look at the Revis contract in hindsight. But if he resigned with the Pats last year everyone would've bashed Mac. Last year was the year that we had to go for it and as mediocre as Revis was for most of the year, imagine Cro being our number 1. We would've won 6 games.
He's a legitimately talented player who just hasn't lived up to advanced billing. I watched him tear apart Oregon's line in the NC game. Motivation may be a factor. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
And what price are we going to pay going forward for 4 extra wins that didn't get us into the playoffs?
We're only stuck with him for one more year if we release him before the 17 season we will save 10 mil
Like I said , easy to look at in hindsight. People LOVED that we resigned Revis and got him away from the Pats in the process. No one was bitching last offseason that we wouldn't be able to resign Harrison because we just signed Revis. Cant have it both ways in a salary capped league.
that's aggressive. It's a potential drop off but not tremendously, plus it'll free up money to spend elsewhere.
You guys can have Fairley. The guy has never lived up to his billing, and he isn't a NT really. There's a reason a guy like him could be had at a "reasonable" price. There's no great market for him. I'd take Harrison any day on my team!
totally agree. why are people suggesting he is a replacement for Harrison at NT? Fairley cannot play 0 technique and clog the middle.. He's not durable, and would have to be in a rotation primarily playing 3 tech. then factor in the character concerns.. considering he made 5M last season on a one year deal, i assume he'll be in the same ballpark this season. I'd take Harrison over him any day, but i don't believe the Jets are looking at him as a Harrison replacement. i think they may be looking at him as a Douzable, and maybe even Mo replacement, which scares me. I'd rather Douzable for much less. on a side note, if the Jets do want a versatile run clogger who can also pass rush some, they should look into Ngata. price tag won't be too high for him at this point, and he's still a pocket collapser. now that would be a Harrison replacement.
Revis was a top 5 corner last year. How does that equate to 'mediocre'? vastly improving our secondary while stealing him off the Pats was a double win. this year's cap hit is the downside of the deal, but I'm still fine with it. cap hit lowers every year after this, and i think he's got several quality years left.....maybe even more if he switches to FS at some point.
He was mediocre in terms of being what he is, a Hall of Fame CB. Idc what the rankings or stats say, he had plenty of times last season where he was exposed. Mostly in games against worse teams (Oakland, Houston, Buffalo) that if we won any of those games we would've been in the playoffs. Anyone that watched knows this. Fact is Revis is being paid for what he was, not for what he is. And when teams do that they sacrifice other areas of need.
I'm really not trying to start any trouble by saying this, but that is honestly one of the dumbest one-liners on this site (which is saying a lot). There's no way you could possibly believe that statement to be true. No way.
so he's a mediocre hall of famer? that makes no sense. He's a top 5 guy today. watching the games i thought he had a huge impact on our overall defense, and is still clearly among the best CB's in this league. he wasn't 'exposed' so much as our defensive play calling was exposed, especially against Buff and Houston. paid on the high end, absolutely. but i'm way happier he is here and not in NE.
Was not exposed in buffalo. We had a dumbass game plan not letting him press watkins. He played off almost all game. Or Oakland cooper didn't so shit that game
I disagree. With Wilkerson still here along with Williams and Richardson, the drop off will be small, no matter who replaces Harrison. Remember he's a 2 down player.
