I would lose COMPLETE faith in Macagnan and Bowles. I would consider finding a new hobby, as watching the Jets would no longer be an option. No worries though, as that is not going to happen. Some of these responses in this thread are shocking though.
Look...... Nobody thought Fitz could do what he did...... Geno sitting for a year, may have been the best thing for him..... All I'm saying is just like Fitz never had 2 WR's like Marshall/Decker, neither has Geno.....
I certainly wouldn't be hopeful about Geno's chance at success, but at the same time if Geno starts the season that means that they think Petty is somewhat viable, so its not all bad.
Rooting for the NYJ with Smith starting would be like watching the Walking Dead. You know what's going to happen -- someone's going to make a dumb decision that ruins it for everyone (up NY 13 and he throws a pick-6) -- and the zombies keel coming. But you hope that it'll get better. Or, at least, not be the worst. It's just that, in Smith's case, we have yet to discover how bad it can be. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
if Smith is the starter come week one it would mean he won the job. since this is just a hypothetical and isn't based on any actual facts that he either won the job against good QB's or incompetent QB"s there is nothing to this hypothetical that could influence the opinion that we should be happy, sad or indifferent about it. so, all we are left with is making up reasons to be happy, sad or indifferent.
Geno Smith is not done in this league. Hopefully we can bring someone in but him vs Petty wouldn't be awful. Geno will probably win. I think he has it in him to go 2:1 TD:INT. He probably would have had a break out year last year. Obviously this isn't ideal but if Geno is our week 1 starter this front office will have done its due diligence.
He sucks. Fitz sucks. No matter what we will suck. We have no QB. We will still always suck until we get one.
fine by me. him and petty competing will be awesome. tbh I was just a "cautiously optimistic" going in to next season with Fitz as well.. something tells me him and Kirk Cousins will be the guys to revert back to their old selves again next season .. so I'd like to see our future start now. Here's to Geno proving he IS worthy, and here's to Petty showing he IS ready!!!
Fact is we need a top 10 pick anyway to have a legit chance at a franchise QB. 8-8 is not a good place to be in the NFL and that is Fitz's upside. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
How would you feel if Geno lost starting job to a 2nd year prospect who sat on the bench last year? Anyway.. jets are not winning SB in 2016. So if it takes a season to finally figure out what Geno is "with all da weapons" and maybe shut up the "he had the perfect QB rating" crowd, I'm good with it.
If Geno is scheduled to start opening day, I'm calling I.K Enemkpali the week before to let him know that Geno just spent 600 dollars on lottery scratchers.
Chan named him starter, Bowles was quick to squash that. I don't recall Mac saying anything about it, other than best man starts.
May have been the best thing for the Jets too... I hope he comes on to win a handful of SB, I hope he retires as the GOAT. Nothing would make me happier. If he starts, I don't think he finishes the season.
I'd feel like the season would be a wash before it even started. Geno sucks, even a greatly improved Geno wont turn into Peyton/Brady in his prime overnight and for that reason there is a 0% chance he succeeds here in NY- the first mistake he makes, the fans will eat him alive. Similar to (an incredibly shitty version of) RGIII if he's going to find success in this league it needs to be somewhere new where the pressure is off and the expectations are lower.
Glad someone remembers the facts, honestly, the guy is just not an NFL QB and he still has 7 out of 9 lives left based on his fans. All of the guys on this board have seen enough football to know when a guy has it or doesn't, by his 3rd or 4th year in the league. Seriously, other than Alex Smith, who was the last QB who took it to the next level after being below average for the first 3 or 4 years in the NFL? Rich Gannon maybe, and how long ago was that? I don't want Geno starting another game for the jets if I had my way, move on and give Petty a chance.
Geno has only played 2 seasons. Idk where you are getting 3-4 years. There are plenty of QBs who were below average in their first two years to then turn it around and have good careers.
