Back up QB's that want to start are not mentors. When will people understand that? Just because a young player sits behind a star or replaces a star or a veteran doesn't mean the star/vet mentored the young player or that the young player was better for it. QB coaches and OCs are there to "mentor" and teach, not the guy competing for the job.

Wonder what Johnny Manziel would have done in that situation? Lol

The Jets are simply not in a position to pay Fitz more than he is worth and more than they can afford. It's as simple as that. No way is Fitz worth more than $7-10 million a year and no way he gets more than a two year deal. If he wants more, sign RGII or Kaepernick to a show me deal and move on.

This goes back to Sam Bradford and Kirk Cousins. Their agents won't be stupid and will see the money in those deals. I don't think anyone is going to come cheap this time around.

They're not "angry," they're "mad" (as a hatter).

It's bad bargaining to accept the comparison to Bradford's deal. Just because he got overpaid doesn't convince me that we should overpay Fitz.

Fitz would be a fool to go to Cleveland or SF. I can't see him going back to Houston considering the coach preferred Ryan Mallett. Denver is a concern if they don't bring back Osweiler, and LA might make a big offer.

The funny thing is Ryan Fitzpatrick is still Ryan Fitzpatrick to most of the league. To us Jets fans, he is FITZMAGIC and gave us one of the most fun seasons we have had in a long time. To any other fan base, Fitz would not exactly energize anyone. So I highly doubt a team like the Browns or Rams would overpay for him. Not like it would be a great move for them. I guess you never know, but I think he returns to the Jets. And I hope I am right.

If the market for him is above $10M a year with $15M in total guarantees the Jets are just going to have to move on. It's sad but as much as I like him and his leadership the cap says no.

    Gotta agree with this.

It sucks because I can't imagine a QB out there right now that gives us a better chance to win next year than Fitz. I would say take a flier on RGIII, but in this QB market he might be approaching the 10 mil mark.

There's always a position that goes flooey in free agency and suddenly surges upwards and tier 2 QB's is the position this year. Was CB's a few years ago.

Think that most would be okay with RG3 on a prove it deal and open competition with Petty. But it's too early to tell how this will shake out.

Who knows, maybe Mac could trade Smith + a later pick for Kaep? Maybe the Jets trade Mo, a pick, and Smith for Rivers/Brees? (Maybe I'll win the lottery...) Or, just maybe, Fitz realizes that this is the best gig out there and he comes back at a reasonable price.

Glad to see this organization taking a stand and not giving in to a multi year massive contract.

Let him test the market, he will come back.

    Its best for both sides.

If not, we take RG3 on an incentive based contract or its Bryce Petty time.

I agree with the first part....if Fitz walks it will hurt in the short term but the organization needs to see if Petty is the answer and if not they need go out and find a long term option ....RG3 is damaged goods.

That would be a bad trade....Mo and a pick for Brees?? At best he has about 2 years left and is not exactly lights out in cold weather. Mo for a first round pick or maybe even a second and a third would be most likely. Regardless I sure hope Mac doesn't bite and break the bank for Fitz....a lot of things broke right this past season - don't expect a duplication.
