Seoul (AFP) - Leader Kim Jong-Un has ordered North Korea's nuclear arsenal to be readied for pre-emptive use at any time, in an expected escalation of military rhetoric following the UN Security Council's adoption of tough new sanctions on Pyongyang.

The North's nuclear warheads must be deployed "on standby so as to be fired at any moment," Kim was quoted as saying by the North's official KCNA news agency on Friday.

He also warned that the situation on the divided Korean peninsula had become so dangerous that the North needed to shift its military strategy to one of "pre-emptive attack".

Yeah, but here's the problem: we've sanctioned and embargoed North Korea up the ass and back, and none of it works. Probably never will. The North Korean people are so accustomed to living in abject poverty under whack-job dictators, the only international pride and respect they'll ever get involves military parades with big shiny missiles and uniformed soldiers with medals and hats the size of trashcan lids. Maybe this most recent round of sanctions is the tipping point; where firing a dead missile into the ocean or controlled demolition underground no longer does anything. It's been done to death. Someday, at some point, Kim Jong Un is going to have to blow something up in broad daylight. The United States? Not likely. But something. If not, then Kim Jong Un would have to consider changing his strategy, if only to line his own pudgy pockets. Which seems more likely?

Plus, NK has a whopping good example of where escalation pays. Iran just got a big fat check. And, it gets to keep its tentacles in the terrorism trade. If I'm NK, I'd be looking for my big fat check now also.

Only those folks who are perpetually scared and always wrong about foreign policy take his guy seriously.

The rest of us don't care.

Yup! Me too. Maybe they're marching in to the Pyongyang finale of the Biggest Loser.

But they certainly know how to pin on a medal. Hats and stripes are pretty good too!

I love those hats. They're so big and fun. Cut the top out and fill them with kimchi and they'd make great serving bowls.

Plus, the best part - if you look closely, they all have an impression of the Dear Leader's ass-crack. It's like he's shitting out a big general. Love that.

We used to have an office at 101 Park Ave--we had the top 7 or 8 floors except the 47th--that was Korean Re's space. I was the 46th floor.

Loved it when they'd get on the elevator--they were all my height--I felt like I was with my peeps.

Each of those uniforms is made from the mane of a unicorn, the medals were each earned by killing 1000 U.S. soldiers, and the hats conceal only the rarest of fluffy bunnies.

Great and Beneficent Leader sees to this.

That looks like more medals than the guy below (Soviet marshal Zhukov) had and these guys did not participate in any wars. Impressive :)

When I was stationed there in the late 80's, Korea was the land of the knock off and you'd have to be in the business to be able to spot them too. They were that good. I came home on mid-tour leave with tailored silk suits, track suits that would make a Mafia Don jealous. Knock off designer luggage. You name it. It was so well known that soldiers I knew used to bring both bag for unis and a empty bag for purchases.

Those guys with the plates in their hats just look silly. Those pasties, err...medals would make Rihanna proud to wear. Too bad those Generals know to keep their mouths shut or be used as target practice. WTF would you put medals on your pant leg?
