Even putting aside the fact that you see Sanders's effect on the Democratic Party no doubt differently than Trump's on the GOP, and putting aside the policy differences between them, there are other differences as well. Start with the fact that Sanders is running in primaries for the party that has won the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 presidential elections, with that sixth won by the GOP on false pretenses. How does he say he wants a revolution when he's running for the same office that the Dems have won and currently hold? This is not mere semantics. He's to some extent running against their record of success. It is rather odd. Trump meanwhile is running in a party that is having great difficulty keeping together the alliance between the so-called business wing and the working class whites who make up a large part of the party's voters. I think he's more taking advantage of that situation than seeking a solution for it, but the point is it is a different situation entirely than Sanders has. Trump as an outsider is saying some things I could not imagine a GOP candidate saying, such as that W did not keep the country safe on 9/11. That it is true does not make it any less remarkable. Sanders on the other hand is in part saying that the Dems have not done enough, in his case saying not nearly enough, to move to the left when they did, and do, have power.
