Drafting a corner in the first round is as much of a commitment as signing a player to an $8 million deal and you indicated you'd be for the drafting of a corner that early.

You talk about long and short term deals like a 2-3 year deal is a short deal. That's a pretty long deal in the NFL. Headlines might read 5 year deal when in actuality the player, the agent, and the team all know he won't see anymore than 3 years of that deal.

He took a DL in the first round only to cut Coples a month or two into the season, was well aware of Sheldon's failed drug tests and has a much better idea of what a Wilkerson wants than we do (and it apparently doesn't match up with what Mac thinks he's worth). You can't match up the BPA theory with that situation without factoring in all of those things, AND the fact that the #1 overall player in the draft fell to us.

Everyone could be gone after every season. I don't get your point. Our entire secondary is locked up long term, with youthful players throughout except for Revis. You'd have a better case arguing for us to get a receiver with these theories.

NO I DID NOT!!! Dude, you need to read more carefully. RIF You're obviously skimming or rushing through posts too hurriedly. I said I didn't want Mac to take a CB in the first round and hoped he wouldn't, but that I could understand why he would and that a case could be made for it.

OMG. You need to stop. A 2-3 year deal is short term. Then you turn around and in essence contradict yourself. You say that a 5-year deal in actuality may only be a 3-year deal. Well what do you think a 2- or 3-year deal might be? Somehow extend to 5 or 7? LOL A 2- or 3-year deal could be shortened just as easily as a 5-year deal can be.

You couldn't be more wrong. You're embarrassing yourself and need to stop. Our entire secondary is NOT locked up long term. Get a grip. Gilchrist isn't locked up long term and isn't that youthful. Walls isn't youthful. Millner and McDougle aren't locked up long term.

It's obvious you don't get my point, but you keep babbling on making ludicrous statements instead of asking questions.

Sigh. Again, I'm not arguing for Mac to draft a CB, sorry you have problems comprehending plain English.

How do I contradict myself? Given the lifespan of an NFL player a 2-3 contract is really not a short term deal.

You're right though in that I didn't fully read the post as I was responding at my desk so I thoroughly apologize. I am just so against making any changes to the secondary I got caught up in that point.

Maccagnan and Bowles chose all of the corners and safeties they wanted sans Calvin Pryor whom looks to be a stud anyway. I'd be completely shocked if they sign anyone that isn't near a veteran minimum or lower than a 5th round pick. They chose Skrine, Revis, Gilchrist and Cromartie. I highly doubt they're still looking to add, even if that player happens to be the best player available.

I think you and most will vouch that I'm a knowledgeable poster that reads what everyone says thoroughly so as I said I sincerely apologize misreading and misinterpreting what you said or were advocating for.

The one thing I do disagree about is that the secondary is locked in for the next two years. We won't invest in secondary players for another couple years as you wouldn't use a high pick with the thought process that we'll need another safety in two years l. Gilchrist is turning 28 at the end of the season, Skrine is about to to turn 27, Williams (while I guess unknown) just turned 24, is about to be 24. That's plenty of youth moving forward. The focus of this offseason is building youth in the offensive line and linebacking core while the secondary won't really need to be looked at for another year if not two.

Gilchrist is signed through 2018, Pryor's 5th year option will be picked up through 2018 snd he'll likely be resigned long term, Skrine is signed through 2018, Marcus Williams is an RFA in 2017. Revis will be cut within the next two years but I really don't see us going after a corner in free agency or the draft til at least after next.

First and foremost, thank you for your apology. I know that you are a knowledgeable poster and that your responses were below your normal standard. That's why I pointed it out. It was obvious that you were distracted, and they weren't up to your normal standard. I hope you don't think that I was attacking you or took offense. I was just trying to get your attention so that you would realize that you had misread my intent. If I came across too harshly, I apologize.

You contradicted yourself by saying that a 5-year contract was in essence a 3-year contract, yet refuse to accept that a 2- or 3-year contract could in essence be a 1-year contract. I specifically remember that when the signings of all the Jets' FAs were announced last year that all the contracts were designed so that the players could be cut after a year or two with minimal cap hit. They picked those players because they were the best available at the time. Do you seriously think that if they got an opportunity to upgrade the FS or slot corner position with a player that was significantly cheaper that they wouldn't? I don't believe that for a second.

As for whatever moves Mac makes, it will be interesting to see. You could very easily be right. They may not add any players to the secondard, or if they do, it might only be a mid or lower-round pick or possibly even a UDFA. I hope that Williams will be up to the challenge and that Milliner can stay healthy, and McDougle will improve and earn his roster spot, because that's what's best for the Jets. It will be interesting to see what Mac and Bowles thinks about that situation.

I would have thought that safety was pretty set too, but I see in the thread that Matty started with the tweets about games that the Jets have scouted and players with which they have spoken that they have spoken with the safety from Utah at least 2 times. That would seem to indicate some serious interest because I believe that he is slated to be a mid-round pick.

If you're referring to the draft in upgrading free safety or slot corner then no I do not think they would because we cannot allocate more resources to the secondary. That's been my point the entire time. They signed all players to cuttable salaries if they sucked cock, but I believe they're comfortable moving forward with Gilchrist and Skrine. Revis is the one that sucks.

As far as contracts are concerned, my point is that players never usually see the back end of their deal. While we're both bringing in hypothetical, do you think there's a better chance Skrine and Gilchrist are on the roster for the next couple years or not on the roster? That's my point. For the players on out roster I believe most of the 2-3 year deals will be honored, since they're solid players and not too expensive thus making them "longer" term deals in respect to building this franchise over the next couple years.

Killebrew is huge and maybe they could be looking at him as a Deon Buchanon type of ILB/S since our front is full of a bunch of hogs. It's also tough to speculate based on who scouts talk to since they'd be morons to not talk to just about everyone.

I know what your point is. My point is that your point isn't necessarily what Mac and Bowles think. For instance, if the Jets got desperate enough for cap space, Gilchrist could be cut now and it would save $3.75 million on the cap. I don't think that will happen, but anything is possible and on the table if the Jets need cap space and they've explored all of their other options and that's they only place they can get it.

Following this season, Skrine could be cut and the Jets would save $4.75 million on the cap and Gilchrist could be cut and they'd save $5.375 million on the cap. Is it likely they'd cut both? No. Is it possible they could cut one of them? Yes. Again, it's not that likely because they can cut Revis after this season and save over $13 million. But a lot can happen in a year. Both of them could have horrible seasons. There could be some great FAs next season that the Jets want to sign and for whom they would need a lot of cap space. Again, I'm not saying I think that should happen or will happen, only that anything is possible. We just don't know that much about Mac and Bowles yet, and we don't know what going to happen with the team this season. Things could look radically different next offseason.

According to the info I'm seeing, Miles Killebrew isn't the SS they're interested in, rather it's Tevin Carter who CBS sees as a 7th round pick or UDFA. They've spoken with him on two separate occasions. If they are genuinely interested (and I have to assume they are since nothing can be gained from feigning interest in such a low-rated prospect and why speak to him twice), then they must see him as either a STs player or someone who could fill the role that Bucannon played for the Cards.

I'm not even going to read any further because I can just counter the entire post with "well your point might not be what Bowles and Maccagnan think." That's why we're discussing it. I think what I think and I also think Maccagnan and Bowles will agree with me. They wouldn't have signed Gilchrist, Skrine, Cromartie, Revis, etc. to longer term deals if they didn't want to build their secondary like this. They had their choice of whomever they wanted this offseason and that's who they chose.

I have confidence that in a $70 million offseason spend they chose players they want on the roster longer than a year outside of Cro. The larger point is that the secondary refine will be looked at as a project for next year and not this year. I expect Revis to be cut while keeping the core of Skrine/Gilchrist/Williams/Pryor together and searching for another corner.

I think you're pretty crazy if you think we're looking at safeties for anything outside of special teams.

I didn't say that Gilchrist or Skrine were likely to be cut this season, only pointed out that if Mac was desperate enough for cap space and thought they could adequately replace one of them, that it was a possibility, not a likelihood.

Your comment that "They had their choice of whomever they wanted this offseason (past) and that's who they chose." as if those are the best possible players they could have for those positions, they will therefore just stand pat, and not even consider upgrading those positions is laughable. They had their choice from a select pool of players, not everyone in the NFL. They did the best they could with who was available, what players wanted financially, who was willing to come to play for the Jets, etc., but that doesn't mean that they're satisfied and will stand pat if they get the opportunity to upgrade. You seem to have forgotten that Mac was making all these moves only weeks and months after taking the job. He was scrambling to improve the team. Of course he hoped that they would all play well and he wouldn't have to worry about them for 2-3 years, but guess what? Following this season, they will have been here 2 years, and after having seen them play for two seasons, he could very easily decide that one or both of those positions could be upgraded. He could also decide that he's happy and extend one or both. That remains to be seen.

LOL Whatever. It really hasn't been much of a discussion at all anyway. Your mind was closed like a steel trap from the beginning and you have refused to even consider the possibility that you could be wrong. So it's been me showing different scenarios which are totally plausible and facts which you have conveniently ignored and just kept stating your opinion.

I don't get these novels you're writing. You seemed to have indicated that the secondary needed help. I thoroughly disagreed and displayed the fact that Mac and Bowles have put into place whom they wanted given whom was available in a very deep defensive back free agency class.

I do not seeing them making many adjustments to this unit for another year if not you. You think differently. We will see what they do. That's it.

BPA always makes sense early on in the NFL. Injuries happen, a lot. Players go free agent, or you need to clear cap space a young player gives you the option to let an expensive veteran walk. You always need depth, not just depth that fills a roster spot with a body but actual talented depth.

Example one of someone who takes a football message way too seriously. I live a very nice life. You must live a tough life with sensitivity issues if a disagreement on a message board has lead you to tell someone to have a nice life. You too I suppose.

I don't think Cajuste will last to the 5th and we have Quincy anyway. I heart his 10 3/4 inch hands.

I'm so with you on that BPA crap. If you have holes to fill on your team are you gonna stack up on BPA available or fill those holes.

It has nothing to do with football message and everything to do with the behavior of people. Why deal with people who are sarcastic, snarky and act like jerks for no reason, when you don't have to? Life is more pleasant and serene without them.
