Agree... this is such a jets move if it happens. trade a stud DE who wants money to overpay a QB who has 1 good season as a pro playing in the worst division in football. Are we even convinced cousins is an upgrade to Fitzpatrick? Id rather roll the dice on RG3 on the cheap.
Fuck giving up 2 first rounds to sign a deal that we can't afford maybe I'd consider trading Mo for Cousins. I'd rather pay that money for a QB than a D-lineman, I'd probably extend him too.
if you don't think we can afford Mo, where is the 22M coming from for Cousins? not to mention the Skins aren't making that trade straight up. they'd want a 1st rounder in addition, and possibly more. it's their QB.
We don't have a QB under contract so we can't afford to pay Mo AND a QB, especially if Fitz wants 15+. If we trade Mo for Cousins we can use the freed up 15.7 to pay him.
ok true, we wouldn't need to sign Fitz in that scenario (although i don't see him getting 15M).. but Cousins instead of Fitz/Mo/1st round pick? i like Cousins, but that's way too steep considering he's only had 1 good year. I'd rather those 3 players for sure.
And how exactly do the Jets afford that 20m tender or new contract that he will obviously want? So we trade 2 firsts AND have to pay the man 20m for one year? That would screw both teams, and I honestly don't think the Redskins plan to part ways with him at all. Besides, if the Redskins fail to make a deal, he'll be available next season without needing to trade for him. I'd rather preserve continuity and keep Fitz for another year, and if Cousins is available THEN go after him. He had a good year, but he's only marginally better than Fitz at this point. 9m more for a marginally better player doesn't seem worth it when you can likely lock up fitz for 8-11m.
This is a great example of why drunk posting shouldn't be allowed. Cousins isn't worth ONE first round pick let alone two. If we gave up two firsts for cousins or Mo and a first, we'd need to kill Maccagnan out of principle.
So are you suggesting that posters need to take a breathalyzer test before operating the internet? If so, I'd be in favor of it. It would be like those tubes installed on cars where the driver has to blow into the tube and if he's over the limit, the car won't start.
For all of you losing your minds over my proposing this as an idea need to relax. Anyone referencing acid and alcohol, just go take a nap or eat a snickers. Whatever you need to do to calm yourself. This was proposed as an idea. It is in fact one that I am interested in them pursuing. This does not mean that they will or that they should. It was a discussion topic on a discussion board. Chill out friends.
Dont be shocked if he does. Bradford got 2 for 36 with 22 mil guaranteed yesterday. If Fitz doesnt atleast match that contract then he should fire his agent.
He doesnt strike me as the type to be all about the money. But at the same time I think if the Jets try to lowball him he might not like that too much. Philly fucked up this QB market by giving Bradford that type of deal.
If the Jets offer Fitz 8 million he is going to laugh in their face. They aren't stupid, the QB is the most important position on the field. Fitz will get at the very minimum 12 million. I could see 2 year 28.5 million, 15 million guaranteed.
I think that would be fair. But I also think he could get a 3rd year and atleast 25 mil guaranteed. Gonna be interesting to see if Mac can work some magic but yesterday's news def didnt do the team any favors.
That's where I think the NFL is totally screwed up. Operating by that principle is totally illogical. Philly and the Jets are two totally different situations and Bradford and Fitz, while they have some similarities are different QBs at different stages of their careers. Just because Lurie is insane and gave Bradford a ridiculously over-priced contract doesn't mean that Mac and Woody should be insane. There is no common sense any more. The very idea that Fitz should get $12-$15 (or more) million to play this season is absolutely nuts! The line in the sand has to be drawn somewhere. With the way things are going, in another couple of years going to an NFL football game is going to be out of the reach of most people, much less seat licenses and season tickets and parking. They're going to price themselves right out of business, and if they don't all wake up and quit being so greedy and stupid, I hope they do.
Totally agree. Problem is so many teams are QB needy. So much so that even an average QB , which Im not even sure Bradford is , will cash in every year based on name recognition alone. Its insane. Philly wont win anything with him so they are pretty much throwing money away in what should be the start of a rebuild for them. For us I think its a little different because there are atleast some expectations with our current roster , but yeah even still I find it hard to believe Fitz is a 15 mil a year QB. But bottom line is , if the Jets dont give him that , another team gladly will.
In that case, I propose we offer Green Bay 1st round picks for the next decade for Aaron Rodgers. Thoughts everyone?
I'll tell you why not: because he is NOT even close to worth it. He is an average quarterback at best. He might be below average. I live in DC. Redskins fans are delusional. That team was complete garbage. They finished (9-7) in one of the worst divisions I have ever seen, playing one of the easiest schedules I have ever seen. If they played a decent team like the Jets, Patriots, or Panthers, they were crushed. Cousins completely melted down against the Packers in the playoffs. Personally, I think tagging him was stupid. He is not worth the money. That franchise is a mess. If Romo is healthy, I could easily see them going from first to worst in the East in 2016.
I say we get REALLY aggressive. Let's offer him $40 million for one year. Outbid everyone so we LOCK HIM UP. And then if he's not very good we don't sign him next year and we just give that $40 million to Geno to retain him. _
