yeah but nobody is going to budge... and we can't get Mo's agents to budge in negotiating i dont understand how far off we can possibly be.. the longer Mo is tagged the more he hurts our offseason. If the draft came before free agency we'd be in great shape but seems like were more in great shape to miss out on free agents and clear cap space after the draft which does nothing for us.
hell no.. anyt team with that kinda money is the jags browns titans or something like that, Give me their top 5 ass picks all day ! lol
No1 is giving up those picks we are going to be stuck with that 15 mil this season unless they get a deal done
Imagine a team like the Browns being the only team to offer Mo a crazy deal. That in itself could help the Jets and Mo come to terms, because who really wants to play for the Browns? I kind of think of it that way, a way for the agents to budge a little bit. We definitely have to get that cap number lowered for sure.
I like the logic.. only problem is we'd need a team like the Browns to offer this deal by day 1 or 2 of free agency or our targets may be gone
This is all Revi$'s fault...plus his agent prob phoned Mo's agent and told him to let the Jets squirm till the last minute +100 whoever said Mo is f ing up our free agency
all of those Pats Dlineman received contract extensions, played together for years, and were the clear strength of the defense. they didn't move Seymour until he was 30, in the last year of his 2nd contract, and were offered a high 1st rounder for him. so no, they didn't simply move him due to wealth at the position. they kept Seymour for his best 8 or 9 seasons first. Your point was that 3-4 DE's should be filled by JAGs, that LB's are how you build a great D, and that building with versatile big boys up front is an antiquated idea. none of that is necessarily true. there are a number of ways to build a D, with recent examples of success around the league. personally i'd emphasize versatile Dlineman, edge rushers, and corners. however, if i had stud LB's and Safeties in their primes, i wouldn't move them in the hopes of landing a stud at the other positions. i'd play to that strength, while using the draft to build the other areas.
None, but its draft season, where fans want to trade good players to add draft picks in hope of landing good players.
The 2016 team was never likely to be better than the 2015 team. We spent a huge amount of money on free agents last year and most of them were post-prime. The offensive line is a year older also. The LB's are weaker with the only real upside at this point being Mauldin IV and maybe if we're very lucky a full return to form by Erin Henderson. We need to reset expectations at this point and then let the FO do what they can to beat our reset expectations. Richardson's pending suspension and Snacks free agency made a Mo tag an absolute necessity at this point. The Jets couldn't afford to go into next year with Leonard Williams, Leger Douzable and Stephen Bowen or Mike Catapano as their down 3 in the base defense. That turns into Williams double-teamed nonstop and a really good chance at stunting his development. I'm going into the off-season with an 8-8 mindset and prepared to be pleasantly surprised if Maccagnan can pull off a decent upgrade on that.
you cheated by putting "good" lol. but every year there's a star player in free agency that had to have came from somewhere right? doesn't really matter if the team that let him walk is good or not.. & i'm sure that team would've rather worked out a deal than not. players have market value and get wide eyes if the price is right, and they choose to test free agency.
I think those are the two most likely scenarios, and I would merely add the Jets will not get much on a trade.
me too now that reality has set in for me. I honestly seen ways we could've made things happen until Mo got tagged. Now i just feel like that all but confirmed he's going to be traded.... AFTER free agency.. which means we will be signing more old guys to stop-gaps and relying on this shitty draft to build on lol. Anybody ready for some more Calvin Pace?!?
well last year we seen: DeMarco Murray Suh Revis Maclin Julius Thomas McCourty (at least tested the market) There's always a hand full of top players in free agency.. now how they pan out with their new team is a different story.
I'm not sure I'd agree with your statement that there is no conventional way to have the league's best defense. It's common knowledge that the NFL is a copy cat league. Every so often some HC will come up with a new wrinkle and then most everyone jumps on the bandwagon, but there are only so many defensive systems used. There may be some minor tweaks with each of them making them a little different than the others, but there are only two basic alignments that most teams use, the 3-4 and the 4-3. Within that, there are some further variations like the TB 4-3 and the Bears' 46. Also, just because some coach tries to be creative doesn't mean he will succeed. The basic systems or alignments are designed in a certain way. They have inherent strengths and weaknesses. We saw firsthand with Rex, that his version of the 3-4 failed in the crunch more often than not. Now one may possibly argue it failed because it didn't have a speedy OLB pass rusher, and that could be true, but the Jets had 6 years to draft a speedy OLB and with the exception of Gholston (and I think that was before Rex was hired) every single time opted for different positions. Was that Tanny or was it Rex. We do know that Rex stated that he preferred rushing the passer with DBs because they were faster than LBs, so it seems that it was intentional. If so, then Rex's variation on the 3-4 was pretty much a failure.
This is a very realistic picture of what could happen and honestly it's depressing, when you add the right side of the Oline being questionable as Winters will probably come back and Giacomini is cut. Mangold was injured more than usual last year and while he is durable, who is to say he won't be hurt again this year. Im sure Ivory will not be back if his asking price is too high, Calvin Pace is not the answer at OLB. This schedule will be tougher and hopefully TB has learned to stop chasing points which is still to be determined. I'm not a doom and gloom guy but reality is quick setting in on this team, as they face a very daunting transition.
Really good point from Charley Casserly: This is a historically good draft for interior defensive linemen. If you need one, you can easily get one on the rookie wage scale instead of a $15.7 million dollar 1 year deal that needs to be re-upped immediately. Yea, they won't be the caliber of Mo Wilkerson but you can get a really solid player at the position without giving up draft picks and tons of money. We're probably stuck with him.
Lol, the Jets have been really official since the new regime took over. I wonder if they have any influence on the social media department because it wasn't like this before they got here. Jets posted the same message to every social media outlet as soon as the clock struck 4:00 pm (the tag deadline). The other teams that used the tag sort of just posted it as it happened. Small thing but it's cool how organized they are.
