Again I don't see Richardson as a lost cause as some seem to strongly imply here. For example I've done some stupid shit with cars myself over the years, and I think I learned from them. It's not like he's got a bad attitude about the game itself, or seems to have a personality that is just plain bad. I think the Jets have a good locker room for a player like him to develop in the right direction. Put it this way, it's no guarantee either way, and I get the point above that Wilkerson has been the more solid citizen, no doubt about it. But I think some are too skeptical about Richardson, and if I had to bet I think he will succeed.

And when he's on the field, Richardson is a very promising player on the upside.

I hope I am right about him, of course, and may be wrong. But I do think we should not be too negative about him.

I think the biggest issue is he's one failed drug test away from a massive suspension.

But I agree, he's a fantastic player and possibly as good as Wilk.

    Edit: actually the biggest fear.

As it stands now the Jets are not totally without leverage. While the prognosis is good for Wilkerson to recover from his injury, there's no way it was a good thing for him that that happened, and that includes to at least some extent his market value. Playing without a contract this year will be a risk for him. It may pay off, but there's a risk.

So while it looks like his agent has been asking for too much money, there is an argument that taking somewhat less money now that he has been tagged will eliminate or at least reduce that risk.

Alternatively if the Jets cannot reach a deal in this off season, I think they have to trade him.

We tagged Mo. How exactly is that losing him? Unless he just doesn't play

This is completely dependent on the defense you build. There's no conventional way to have the league's best defense. There's no norm to follow as someone always breaks that norm and does something new.

Hopefully we restructure. Mo is our best dlineman.

Only question is how that leg is healing up? And what this does to cap ramifications? ..The restructure would put some cap concerns to bed.

I think an interesting question is that if we do trade Mo, when would it be? If we did it right at the start of the league year (next Wednesday) it would free up lots of cap space to get stuff done during free agency and set up a draft plan. However, lots of teams are reluctant to give up their draft picks a month before the draft and are more likely to do so while they're on the clock. They say that deadlines spur action, so we'd probably get more of a return during the draft but we'd also lose the opportunity to spend the gained cap space on essential free agents. If we're trading him, it would benefit us to do it very, very soon. Like a week from today soon.

Last time I checked, he's already begun the rehabilitation process and is well ahead of schedule. He tweeted that I think a few weeks ago.

come on ... read between the lines.. no way we're keeping Mo at that price that leaves us with 6M in cap space left.. that's not even enough to re-sign fitz lol.

I know but i keep hearing we're still nowhere close on a long term agreement with Mo's camp.. No way we keep him for 15.7M and just lose everything else and barely have enough to even sign anybody. I know we still have about 3 cuts and maybe 2 restructures left... that'll leave us with maybe just enough to buy Fitz back and sign bilal.. that's about it lol.

it would be in our best interest.. would you rather us miss out on free agency ? lose all our own guys, and go into the draft to trade our best player for a 2nd and 4th in a blatantly weak draft? just to draft another DT or DE in the first round? lol

Yeah. I think Macc probably makes a decision on Mo right away. There are just too many other things on the docket and we need cap space in the worst way. (fingers crossed)

I don't see how we are any worse. If we can get a good olb it should help with losing parts of the dline. Also Williams should take a step forward and hopefully Sheldon hopefully doesnt have to play olb anymore

Originally, I thought Mo would take some kind of a hometown discount. Too many factors now like Revis being a great negotiator, Sheldon talking about pay the man $$ and also the contracts of Suh and other less valuable dlineman have forced Mo to look elsewhere. I think Mo is NYJ defense. Losing Mo would be a brutal blow. Hopefully they can work out a deal. The tag at least prolongs the discussion. Also need to know what's going on with Mo's leg.

Fitz will most likely come back. I think he likes the offense, gailey, Marshall, Decker. It's a good fit for him here.

Bilal I am concerned about. I just posted something schefter said at the combine. He thinks a lot of other teams are interested in Powell skill set, scat back presence out of the backfield. Although, Powell has been injury prone...that would be a pretty bad loss to our backfield.
