I am not sure what to do about Wilkerson, but if as I mentioned it seems like he's asking for too much money, they will have to handle him accordingly. And to be clear I do not mean to suggest there is no risk in relying on Richardson. There is a risk that he will not learn. I just think that risk is less than some seem to see, and that it's just a matter of time til he has another incident.
OK, just making sure because you made a comparison with someone who has a disorder to someone who is just immature and makes bad decisions.
Money Money Money Mo wants it and we don't really have it. He is a great player however we need speed on the modern D as posters here have suggested. Mac is doing the smart thing. Tag the guy and figure it all out later. This year will be an extremely tough decision wise as our budget is limited. If Mo is smart he takes what Jets are offering and we hope he doesn't retire on the field after a big payday. You can't give one player everything like they pretty much did with Revis imo. We may have to eventually let Wilkerson go and build on draft/FA. This our rock and a hard place problem
Macc just needs to get creative with the compensation like how the Pats get around the cap with Brady. Ink Mo to a below market contract of $7M/yr but hire his "business venture" to supply massage services to the team for another $7M/yr. That cap hit is only $7M!
I didn't say that we would fill all of the needs, but it would be nice to fill at least a couple of them rather than not being able to fill any of them. The bolded sentence is where we chiefly differ. There are holes at every single one of the spots I mentioned. If you think there aren't, then I'm sorry, I don't what to say, because that just isn't reality. I also don't think he's our best player. Marshall for one is better. So is Mangold. Both Richardson and Williams might be better within a season. If Revis weren't in decline, I'd say that he was better too. Pryor is pretty much dead even with Mo and could pass him this season. Regarding Sheldon, did you even read what I wrote today? Some of your responses are just head scratchers.
I think his point was that if Marshall could overcome his Borderline Personality Disorder, Richardson (who doesn't have Borderline Personality Disorder) is capable of maturing and getting his shit together.
This is an extremely fluid situation, one we all saw coming last year at this time. It seems like Mo, who the Jets have reportedly tried to extend multiple times over the past year, is wanting more money then the jets are offering. The jets truly are still in a position of strength in negotiation. They have multiple asssets that play the same poison under contract. Does or should this figure into the equation; of course it does. That doesn't mean that Moes "number" is unrealistic on the open market. It's just unrealistic in this given scenario. Does he want to be more than adequately paid here with other great linemen or be a 15-16 a year guy and a lone wolf on a line with misfits? He knows this is his big pay day; the second contract always is. In life timing is everything. But Reivi$ is hindering this team yet again. I'll never understand the 15M. Year CB.
Capable yes, but some people never change. Even, something as simple as staying out of trouble can be the hardest thing to avoid. You just can't compare the two situations. It took Marshall the majority of his playing time career to see his issues as well. Kudos to Marshall for looking in the mirror and finding help.
It's plain to see we value Mo differently. I think Mo is definitely our best player on the defensive side of the ball. You can put Marshall and Mangold above him and that's fine as they are extremely valuable. Revis is in decline and there's nothing you can do about that. Pryor still needs to continue to improve, one good season under his belt, but Mo has done more for us. I value the All-Pro recognition a lot and Mo has been on the 2nd team twice. Sheldon and Williams may have more potential, but Mo is proven. Plus, Sheldon more than likely will be suspended next season. Jets need Mo here. I read about what you said about Sheldon all day and every sentence starts with "IF" or "MIGHT" ... well I don't like to invest my entire future in "what ifs." He's an after thought until he cleans up his act and he should not determine if Mo stays or if he goes.
If I could trust Richardson, I would almost certainly trade Mo. But I don't trust him. He was a character question coming out of college and during his time in the NFL, he's failed multiple drug tests and got involved in that stupid car chase. He's pretty much one failed test away from becoming the next Josh Gordon. If I could get something great for Mo, I might still do it, but barring that, I'd rather keep Mo. Then if Richardson succeeds, we could get good compensation and if he fails, at least we were justified in keeping Mo.
What you're suggesting would be considered cheating the salary cap system, and the league would penalize it severely. That's not what the Patriots are doing with Brady.
what's this about? https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/...ubious-past/C4zMzcPDgU62WMMg10qeBL/story.html
Agreed that some people never change. I don't think Big Blocker was trying to compare the two, just giving an example of someone else who had been troubled and had overcome that.
I don't trust Mehta, but here's what he had to say in today's article. The bolding is mine. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...ts-muhammad-wilkerson-point-article-1.2547923
I think Mo is going to play under the franchise tag and be a free agent next year. This is blowback from Revis on the Jets over the years. Why should anybody look for less than absolute top dollar when the Jets have consistently bent to Revis demands? No franchise tagged player has been traded in years. The last one I can find that was traded was Jared Allen from the Chiefs to the Vikings in 2008 for the 15 pick, the 73 pick and the 82 pick. I can't find a franchise tagged player that was subsequently signed by another team. There must be a few examples but they're not coming up on the obvious searches.
Well I mean it begins to start to prove my point as the Pats realize all the wealth they had in that unit which is why they eventually traded Seymour. You also aren't factoring in the gaping holes we have vs. that team that had plenty of speed and depth at linebacker.
Well he may not get a new deal before the start of training camp. But really he will like one person on this board says. May play on his FT deal.
Interesting comment - MW is not the centerpiece of the D........well that is somewhat comforting to read seeing that the classic centerpiece in most defenses is the stud MLB or the stud OLB. Rarely, if ever, is it the stud DT/DE - and we have 3 of these.
