I agree. I don't see the Jets getting a big package in a trade for the reasons you mention.

    Sigh...

Not looking good. If the Jets can't resign Wilk under the $$$ they want, the Jets should take the best offer and just move on. Get a 2nd rounder and maybe a 4th rounder and hope the players we get comes close to Wilks value a few years down the road. A lot of players are getting tagged this off-season, perhaps do the Jets find a way to swap Kirk Cousins and Wilkerson? Cousins was a pretty good QB late in the year.

The one scenario that scares me the most is only having Leonard Williams 3 or 4 years down the road with Sheldon leaving as well. I can see it happening.

It really shouldn't be too much of a worry though. There hasn't been an NFL defense built in the modern era that had two flagship 3-4 defensive ends. Those positions are reserved for the Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel's of the world. Rex tried to reinvent the 85 bears by building the biggest NFL front in history.

Leonard Williams can be our good to star defensive end and we can live with that. Most defensive are built with greatness around their linebackers. The Seahawks are anomaly with their elite secondary and even still they have a top 4 sideline to sideline middle linebacker in this game.

We need to start builting realistic defenses rather than dream scenario defenses to try to emulate a team that won 30 years ago before quick passing evolutionized the game. Trade Mo, get what you can and get some speed in the second level already. Enough of this building massive fronts to stop the run and struggle to get to the quarterback. That's a formula for the early 90's and beating the Emmitt Smith Cowboys not the Tom Brady's of the world.

Mets and Yankees have nothing to do with each other either. But they rarely trade with each other. Its an unwritten rule between the 2 teams. They dont deal with each other.

Why is this news to some fans?

    Patriots 1st round picks:
    2001 - Richard Seymour
    2003 - Ty Warren
    2004 - Vince Wilfork

worked out pretty well for that defense...
it's been the clear strength of our defense as well.

I am tending to agree with this. I think the team in most play with us would be San Francisco as they fit much of the bill ----- NFC team / 3-4 D / lot of cap room & they have early picks in each round (especially 2nd rounder is pick # 37).

You realize JJ Watt signed already (with a deal structured for Houstons cap purposes) makes him WAY harder to trade and less appealing to acquire than Mo right? Your logic is backwards.

This is fan think. I would be shocked if the two teams don't talk because they are having a Jets rule Giants drool debate.

The Giants have $60 Mil on cap space and have a gaping hole on their defensive line. If they don't call the Jets I will be astonished. It's already been reported there has been "substantial buzz" around the Giants org over Mo.

Unless Wilks is asking for crazy money (who knows?) I'd be happier with a d-line of Wilks, Snacks and Leo than Richardson, Snacks and Leo.

The question isn't if the jets could find suitable compensation the only question here is if the jets are willing to trade him at all.

I agree. I'd prefer Mo. The only thing driving this is if the jets tag mo and then next year find themselves with mo hitting FA and Sheldon asking for the world they are caught with their pants down.

Says who? Do you realize how many Mets players have gone to the Yankees over the years? It may not be because of direct trade, but to suggest that the teams have some kind of rule for trading with each other is silly. The only teams off limits for trading, IMO, should be teams in your own division. The Giants should be considered just like any non divisional opponent. The Jets play them once every 4 years. Why would it matter? If the Giants gave the best compensation, do you really think the Jets are going to say no, just because they share the same stadium?

I am fully against trading Mo, FYI. I don't care where he goes. I was hoping they would actually got a deal done rather than the tag, but now the cap is going to be really tough to squeeze and Harrison is almost certainly gone. I expect a Fitz deal on day 1 of FA.

Free agency is totally different. Some go to crosstown teams so they don't have to uproot a family.

And as rare as trading is , star player trading is even more rare.

The odds of Mo being traded to the Giants are 10,000-1

The problem is the sport is not comparable. There is no salary cap in baseball, there are never situations such as this one. Bringing up the Mets and Yankees is just silly.

    As there should be.

But it won't happen because if Mo went to the Giants in a trade and happened to win a Super Bowl there , the Jets franchise would never hear the end of it.

To me that's garbage and it's running a franchise scared.

But that's the way the brass thinks

Considering the prices for DE are going up by the year, Watt's contract in comparison to a player like Suh is a complete steal. I completely disagree.

Suh changed the market completely. His deal is 20M a season. Watt's is at 16 or 17. Negotiating with DEs is a lot harder. Add that to trade compensation and it's much tougher.

It's not cause they don't deal with each other.

Just like the Knicks and Nets don't and the Rangers/Devils/Islanders don't.

Bucs are a 1st class organization ... lol traded for a guy and didn't even know how to use him. Maybe we can sucker a team into a trade like that again, but what are the chances of that?

The Seahawks you can't forget in their best year had Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril and Chris Clemons putting in major work on that D-Line. In 2013 they had at least 2 stars on each level of the defense. No virtual weakness what-so-ever.

I want to keep the team's best players ... So many ways to build a dominant defense. We definitely need a linebacker that can go from sideline to sideline and another speed rusher. I guess we'll see in due time what happens, but I hope we keep Mo for the long-term.

The Giants beat the Patriots based on their defensive lineman, they didn't have good linebackers then either.
