I don't know just where I'm going But I'm goin' to try for the kingdom if I can 'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man When I put a spike into my vein Then I tell you things aren't quite the same When I'm rushing on my run And I feel just like Jesus' son And I guess I just don't know And I guess that I just don't know I have made very big decision I'm goin' to try to nullify my life 'Cause when the blood begins to flow When it shoots up the dropper's neck When I'm closing in on death You can't help me not you guys All you sweet girls with all your sweet talk You can all go take a walk And I guess I just don't know And I guess I just don't know I wish that I was born a thousand years ago I wish that I'd sailed the darkened seas On a great big clipper ship Going from this land here to that I put on a sailor's suit and cap Away from the big city Where a man cannot be free Of all the evils in this town And of himself and those around Oh, and I guess I just don't know Oh, and I guess I just don't know Heroin, be the death of me Heroin, it's my wife and it's my life Because a mainer to my vein Leads to a center in my head And then I'm better off than dead When the smack begins to flow Then I really don't care anymore About all the Jim-Jims in this town And everybody putting everybody else down And all of the politicians makin' crazy sounds All the dead bodies piled up in mounds, yeah Wow, that heroin is in my blood And the blood is in my head Yeah, thank God that I'm good as dead Ooohhh, thank your God that I'm not aware And thank God that I just don't care And I guess I just don't know And I guess I just don't know
I'm fine with decriminalization. The war on drugs has been devastating for this country both financially and in terms of personal freedom. But I will never, ever be OK with my tax dollars going towards sponsoring some drug addicts habit. Fuck that. Fuck a whole bunch of that. I find it shocking that anyone would ever support such hyper-liberal nonsense.
^I would only decriminalize marijuana...The hard drugs not so much. Why folks do other things than marijuana I'll never know... Taxpayer dollars are going to be spent on those who are addicted - either hospital stays, trouble with the law, etc...IF money is going to spent on these losers (no sympathy here - it's a choice to start shooting up when the dangers are known), it should be spent on paying for substance abuse programs to get people OFF the addition. Getting people OFF the addition saves taxpayers in the long run than continuing their addition...His treatment idea is correct. The safe space to shoot up LOL. This is the one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard of. Right on par, with those idiots who want to get rid of Planned Parenthood funding - Same thought process between these this Mayor and these idiots - Let's support losers who shoot up and poor women who have babies they can't afford for their entire life with welfare spending on healthcare, food stamps, rent, etc...Geniuses!
The question we should ask is what does the criminalization of drugs accomplish. Does it prevent people from using them? Does it make criminals rich and create massive, powerful & violent criminal organizations? Does it fill our jails and prisons, thus costing tax payers a shit ton of money? What if drugs were available to buy at CVS instead? Would they come with warning labels? Would they be taxed? Would more people use them?
It's not sponsoring their habit. It's managing it. And reducing other drains on our tax dollars while we're at it.
you're talking about a state building with full time employees giving these losers a safe place to shoot up and supplies to help. it's a huge expense for what? so they don't overdose in a dark alley? idgaf. die in an alley if that's what you want to do with your life.
Oh God I can't imagine the commercials with all the happy people walking around doing Chrystal Meth and then the warnings at the end "Before you do Chrystal Meth, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or are taking carticle steroids. Avoid taking Chrystal Meth if you have high blood pressure or a history of kidney disease or heart attacks. Taking Chrystal Meth could lead to loose stools, dizziness, heart attacks, psychotic episodes and loss of erectile function blahblahblah. _
Or just rob some ordinary citizens such as yourself to get money for their next hit. I'm sure you'd prefer that instead.
Rob me? ME!? Good luck with that. I guess it's a better way to die than with a needle stuck in your arm in a dark alley.
the building wouldn't be dispensing drugs just providing medical supervision. so the junkies will still be robbing people for their next hit. i can just imagine what it would be like in the neighborhood around this facility.
You keep claiming this would reduce crime but haven't provided a coherent argument to support that. You want to reduce crime? Decriminalize drugs.
Drug Prohibition has just done what Alcohol Prohibition did: 1. Drive the drug trade underground, which has - a) made gangsters very wealthy b) made the border more porous, because big money interests had strong reasons to look for ways around border enforcement c) made law enforcement more corrupt, because there's a lot of money to be made in looking the other way or even facilitating the trade 2. Made the government less respected among a substantial portion of the population who use recreational drugs, becoming misdemeanor or even felony offenders in the process a) by which I mean your neighbor down the street who smokes pot casually and at parties and is made into a non-law abiding citizen for doing something that was ridiculous to criminalize in the first place b) by which I mean the people who can afford to do cocaine and designer drugs recreationally, becoming non-law abiding citizens in the process and fueling the really bad cartels, both in and outside the country, both Latin American and good ol' plain American c) by which I mean the heroin addicts who die by the thousands every year, out of sight and out of mind until a big epidemic of abuse occurs as it is today 3. Weakened legitimate governments of our neighbors by - a) making gangsters the richest people in Central America b) causing corruption all through the political, judicial, police and even agricultural sectors of society c) caused massive violence across the region, affecting everybody from the rich and connected to the very poorest in the street 4. Made the US substantially less safe and US citizens substantially less safe due to - a) drug violence spilling across the border and infesting major American cities b) drug violence infesting the heartland from there c) unlicensed and unregulated manufacture of drugs by just about anybody willing to break the law to try to strike it rich d) political relations with Central America in a state of constant flux, making us unable to effectively enforce the border e) creating huge risks for DEA and other Federal agents in Latin America and the US trying to enforce the law in areas that have no respect for it f) creating a continuing overt and covert military operation in Latin America, particularly in Central America and the Andes, that is ruining our image in the area while fostering paramilitary drug lords in the process It's just ugly. End the War on Drugs. It may look like a War on Central America to the Central Americans but it's really a war on ourselves that is very costly and has millions of untold casualties over the decades since it was started.
We don't agree often but I'm in 100% agreement with you on this one. Oh, and ftr, I do not use drugs other than alcohol.
I don't use drugs, although I smoked a lot of pot when I was a teenager. I drink occasionally now but was a twice a week barfly in my mid to late 20's. To me it's not a question of whether drug use is good or bad. I'm pretty sure it is bad for most people, however I don't see any difference between alcohol and marijuana as a recreational choice. I don't see any difference between a person drinking themselves to death and OD-ing on heroin. Both people need help and it should be our responsibility to see that the guidance and means to that end is available.
