I don't think anybody is going to give him a 4 year deal, especially not at 11m per year, but this is why the Jets need to get a deal done asap. I don't want Cleveland outbidding the Jets by overpaying the guy, and leaving us with a huge question mark at QB. Hopefully the deal is ready, they just haven't announced it. I still don't see Fitz getting more than 9m.
4 year deal isn't really a 4 year deal in the nfl. But it allows for lower cap hits on the year you need it to be. In this case the upcoming year.
Yes, paying Ferguson's current contract will definitely mean overpaying him and that's not good, particularly for how much he will be paid. The thing about cutting him in that scenario is it sends a bad signal to the rest of the Jets players, and could change the atmosphere that surrounded the team last year. I think Floyd will probably be the only top OLB prospect there at #20, if he's even there. I think the top ILB prospects will be gone too, as will the top two OT prospects. If that is the case, then if the Jets think Floyd is the BPA, I hope they will take him. If not, I hope they will try to trade down and take Spriggs. IMO finding Brick's successor, whether it be for 2016 or 2017 is imperative. It's more important than finding Cro's or Revis' replacement and almost as important as finding our QB of the future if Petty doesn't pan out.
I'll ask this question again ... say they cut him and he counts 5 mil toward the cap in dead money (we save 9) say we re-sign him that dead money still counts correct ? So at the end of the day we save what a mil maybe 2 heck he's prob worth 9 mil ... meaning it ends up a wash ... yes or no ?
Good question. AFAIK, yes, the dead money would still count. Even if we save just $2 million, that might be enough to enable the Jets to re-sign a player they want to keep. Of course, there's also the matter of the length of the contract. If that were to happen, hopefully it would be a 1-year contract, or structured so they'd take no dead money in succeeding years of the contract.
I'm not huge on Keap but I'm throwing this out there cause its Friday and I'm bored lol how about a trade with SF Mo for Keap and their first rounder
I think you're buying into the players emotions way too much. The only thing that's going to negatively impact the players is the Wilkerson situation. Even in Wilkerson's case the only player thats going to bitch is Richardson. Outside of that, most if not all will understand that it's a business decision.
If Richardson begins to bitch, then you know he's not about the team and they should look to entertain a trade after 2017 after the option. The Jets will need to pay 2 of the 3 eventually. If you think negotiating with Mo is hard, I can't wait to see Sheldon's negotiations.
If Mac can get Kaep and a first rounder for Mo, then just give him the executive of the year for a 2nd straight year because that's a straight up Big Ben rape.
At the end of the day Mo is a sure value ... the 7th pick can flop ... not to mention Keap wants out !
If we were to get the 7th overall, the possibilities would be endless. Hell, they can even have Geno Smith and a 4th round pick as a thank you gift.
I don't think he'll have the negotiating position has in terms of sack numbers that Wilkerson has compiled, not to mention the off the field bullshit. You might be correct in him being a nightmare, but he's not going to have any backup for that unless he really produces in his limited games next year.
This is true, but I don't know if that will stop Sheldon from trying to get big time cash. But if it does work out, having Mo and Sheldon long-term would be awesome.
of course Sheldon is going to try to get big time cash, but we shouldn't give it to him. one more joint, and it's a massive suspension. I'd try to move him after this year or next, depending on trade value, and let another team absorb that cost and risk. all the more reason to get this deal with Wilk worked out imo..
If that happens all my confidence in MM will go out the window. I'll take a top 5 sack guy over a QB that relies on having a stacked team to succeed and doesn't make other players on the team better. I know the value is right because the niners have an early first, but I would be pissed if we go into this season with CK at QB AND losing big Mo. That is a loss loss scenario and the thought makes my stomach turn.
I haven't really bought into that. I just mentioned it as a possibility. Hopefully, you're right and the players will just see it as a business decision. It hasn't seemed to hurt the Steelers or Patriots and they do that all the time.
I'm not so sure about that being such a great thing. If Sheldon hasn't learned his lesson, then it could be a constant distraction. If he hasn't, he can forget about getting big bucks from the Jets. Besides, what about Williams?
We could always trade Kaep afterward for another pick and go with Fitz. No need to get into the practicality of doing all that, the whole thing's unrealistic anyway.
