Except the $8M he gave Cro could have been used to give Wilkerson the extra $2M/yr to keep him on the team.
I vote no. Brick shouldn't be starting this season, much less next year. This should be his last year with the team unless he's willing to be a backup for a year or two for near the vet minimum.
I was awake during my vasectomy. After cutting my nut sack, they pulled that tube out to work on it and I felt my tear duct being yanked down.
Even if you're right (you're not) there's no way I can see replacing him. There's not many starting NFL caliber Left Tackles willing to play for free. 'Brick was in the top half of the league last season. Which means at least 16 teams would have loved to have had him. I realize he's no longer the 'Brick of old (he gave up 40 hurries, which is a lot) but with no other option plus Fitz having a quick release and good on his feet, 'Brick will do just fine for the next 2 yrs, followed by 2 yrs at back up at LT and RT. Cutting him then re-signing him to a new 4yr deal for very reasonable pay would probably work for both sides. It won't save a ton this year because of his $5M dead money, but the next 3 years Macc would look like a genius.
That's true NC. BUT if there's dead money for future years, all that dead money accelerates to the moment of getting cut. So, for example, if a player has a 4 yrs left on his $10M/yr contract with $2M/yr dead money, if we cut his ass we save his $10M salary but his entire $8M in dead money come due at the same time, so only a $2M net. Not sure what the situation is with 'Brick, but something to look out for.
You're the one who's wrong. Brick was bad this past year and he's not gonna get any better. He was no in the top half of the league last season. ROFLMAO!!! He was ranked #62 out of 80 some OTs. He's no longer a starting caliber LT. There's no way he should be given a new contract. I'm sorry, but that's just stupid. I'm truly glad you aren't the GM if you think Brick will be fine for 2 more years.
You're right about the dead money accelerating, and overthecap shows what the dead money hit would be if a player is cut. They have already factored that in, so no, we don't need to look out for anything else.
I think Brick can still be good....but not as an every down player.I wouldn't be so quick to cut him yet with no replacement in sight
We can't just gut our roster with cuts left and right with zero replacement on the roster that has starting experience. I understand Breno isn't some all-world talent but he's all we got. With how shaky Brick looked at times it'd be foolish to go into free agency with little money to spend with only one tackle on the roster that has started in the NFL and is on the back 9 (and likely last year) of his career.
I didn't say to cut him now. There's no way the Jets can. I said that in other posts. I'm just saying that the Jets need to find his replacement ASAP, which will hopefully be next season, as I don't think it's possible this season.
