Ok I concede it was a poor choice of words on my behalf, but at the time of having his jaw broken Geno was the starter. Would that have changed without IK's involvement? We will never know. The fact remains that while he remains on the roster there is a small statistical chance that Geno starts, so to eliminate that chance he should be cut and everyone can just move on
AVERAGE opponent, pay attention And if Fitz can't get Jets 50%, how getting a different BACKUP will help?
True, but... -doesn't change the concept -in 4-12 season, the schedule was obscenely difficult and nobody gave it any weight when it came the time to change the FO. I remember well this board imploding with general sentiment of "you play who is in front of you". This fan base is eager to minimize team accomplishments. So... True, but irrelevant. Also, still trying to understand.. If the schedule is miles tougher and there is doubt that even current starter, Fitz, might not be adequate, how changing BACKUP QB will help? I mean if Jets get fucked, can we be fucked cheaply with Geno? Maybe genobots will even get a chance to see their hero implode "with all the weapons" and finally go away for good.
Also an absurd takeaway ratio early on to build on. Without the weak schedule and the takeaways the Jets are maybe 4-6 after 10 games and we're thinking in a completely different way about them. As it was they were 5-5 and had to go on a streak to become really relevant at the end and then they lost the last must-win game. It was a fun season to watch and that's all I really care about at this point. They're going to have to work harder this off-season to maintain 10-6 than they did last season to get there.
The shelf life of QB's has increased over the last decade. Defenders can hardly breath on them anymore. Good QB's often play well into there 30s. Would anyone be upset if he gave us a decade of good QB play?
nope.. i was moreso just hoping we don't spend a bunch of time developing him until he's 28 just for him to be a bust anyway.
Because throwing QB's right into the fire has worked out so well for us? He's a 4th round pick, if he turns into a good qb it will be a great steal for us.
Petty is a second year QB this year. I'm sure the Jets will be looking at him some as they make the decisions in the off-season. It took Chad two seasons on the bench before he got a shot and he was a 1st round pick. You don't get a shot just because you're there. You get a shot because the guy in front of you fails or is injured or there was never a guy in front of you when you arrived in the first place. If you're a 1st round pick or high 2nd you're definitely getting a chance sooner or later but not until the team thinks it's time or the other options evaporate. I'd be surprised if Petty turned into a starting QB but stranger things have happened.
You'd have started him in 2001 over Vinny? The Jets went 10-6 that year in Herm's first season and Vinny was still the team leader in the locker room. It would have been very hard to start Chad over Vinny that year unless the Jets were sure he was the real deal and he wasn't showing them anything special in practice or camp to make the call easy. I think if Al Groh had been the coach in 2001 then maybe he would have made the move to Chad that year but he certainly didn't make the move in 2000 when Chad was a rookie, and he had as much to do with Chad being drafted as anybody.
To be fair, we traded Keyshawn. Coles and Moss were very inexperienced yet Vinny got a lot of production by taking risks. Also, some of those stupid interceptions were against the 2000 Ravens.
