Brook is a guy's name. Brooke is a girl's name. One letter makes a lot of difference. I knew two Brooks, both guys, when I was a kid. To tell you the truth I don't know the gender normally assigned to Brook! However I think we can lean towards guy given what we know of him.
There's no such thing as as guys and girls names! Come on this is 2016. Ryan Reynolds just named his daughter James!
There's an interesting passage in Freakonomics about how historically popular men's names eventually migrate to women's names. Caroll, for example. You are now starting to see girls named Dylan. I forget what rationale they cooked up for it though.
