Say Fitzpatrick decides to go for the big money and we are left scrambling...Would not shock me if the Jets go after Brock. He seems like a QB that Mac could find a strength and be a good candidate as a alternative option. I can't see how Broncos would want Brock to leave, but they need to tag Von Miller and do a bunch of other things and there is a opening!
Brock has started like 10 games in his whole career. No way we sign Brock. Fitz will cost less than Brock and Brock will take the biggest offer he can get if the Broncos let him go. The Jets won't be able to be the highest bidder.
If someone gives Brock Osweiler $15 million per year they're basically risking there GM career that he's a franchise QB based on what they saw this year. He did some good things, but $15million per year is too big a gamble. Pass.
Why would you pay a guy with 10 starts like he just won the Super Bowl? It's unclear if paying a Super Bowl winning QB $15-20M a year is a good idea. How could you justify paying a young guy who is not a star at that level? Paying Fitzpatrick $8-10M a year for a couple of years is defensible. We already know he can lead this team. We probably won't get a Super Bowl out of it but we've had bad QBing for quite awhile now and paying Fitzpatrick to get competent QB play and good leadership is worth it. Paying Osweiler that same $8-10M a year might be a good alternative if Maccagnan and Bowles liked him enough. Paying him like a franchise QB is just as likely to get both of them fired in a few years as it is to move the franchise forward.
It would be nice to have both for when Fitz implodes down the line(He will at some point) Its not a matter of if ,it will happen.Brocks young and has a shot at something,Fitz is old and can't get a team to the playoffs(Proven week 17 and his last 11 years).I honestly belive the Broncos still would have won the Superbowl if Peyton never came back and Brock Osweller had to start
He's not worth $20M a year. It's very possible he's not even a starting caliber QB in the NFL. Broncos went 5-3 with him and he was shaky in half of his starts for them. He's not one of the guys from the top 36 in the draft either.
Tannehill makes 20 a year. So anything is possible. Osweiler has a lot of leverage in this situation IMO. Broncos look to rather tag Miller , which doesnt make sense to me , and if they think that they are going to lowball Brock , he might be outta there. With that said I wouldnt pay Osweiler double what Fitz is gonna get. Nor could the Jets be able to without some massive amounts of moves. The next 2-3 years I think both of these QB's will have similar stats , so getting Fitz back at around 10 per is the bargain.
So you don't think they would have won the Superbowl with him?Because I do.....Manning didn't win those games .Brock would have been the same or better
They wouldn't have likely won the Super Bowl with him at QB. His performances his last 4 starts were very iffy. They went back to Peyton because an aging Peyton Manning coming off an injury was a better bet for them at that point.
No but he played steady and the defense had to respect him. Defenses were starting to get a bead on Osweiler and he was playing rattled. Big difference between a steady, respected QB and a rattled young pup.
yes, but not for 15+M a year.. personally i believe Osweiler has a good shot at developing into a solid QB. just can't put too much guaranteed money into it at this stage.
It is like when the Bills over paid for Rob Johnson because he had a good year with the Jags. No thanks.
