Took quite some time for it to fall. Weird that it actually killed someone.

The guy who died was hanging out sitting in a parked car. The crane operators had closed the streets but the guy was sitting in there, and also one car pulled out and got sliced in two in the middle of the road but he made it out with the jaws of life. This is like right around the corner from my office, what a disaster

 

Oooof. That's going to leave a mark.

I just saw some other video of a guy on top of the car trying to move the crane by himself. Really putting his legs into it.

Reports are the crane was there to put new A/C units on the roof. And some guy identified as a crane expert says he's been investigating these things for forty years and once there was a mechanical problem; all the rest were human error. Other comments said there is a particular order the lowering needs to take place in and they attempted to go out of sequence. Oops.

 

I think someone screwed up after they added the extra span yesterday. I think they probably didn't add enough counter-weight so that would be an engineering failure as opposed to the crew lowering the crane but we'll find out soon enough

 

good thing we had a couple of guineas out there in the hotel that were between rubbing eachothers nuts to say things like maddafackah
