Since we're talking hypotheticals here, how about this: Would you be a Jets fan IF the NFL allowed NY to keep the name ( like Cleveland did) and throw in major money for a nice new Stadium on this side of the Hudson? (Yonkers perhaps?)
It's all tribal to me. The NY Jets (the existing team) is my tribe as are their fans. If the Jets left the tri-state area I would probably no longer be a Jet fan unless they happened to move someplace I had already moved or was planning to move. Then I'd still be a Jets fan. I would not be a fan of an expansion NY Jets team. I don't have enough years left to go through that kind of pitiful buildup, and it would be pitiful.
You mean get a completely new team that is actually based in New York? I would fully commit to that team 100%. I did this with NYCFC...I gave up my fandom for the Red Bulls pretty quick and began supporting for the NYC FC soccer team...However I am not as crazy about MLS as of yet because we still have alot of work to do to be a competitive league in comparison to the world. We are losing great players now to China lol. MLS continues to get retired stars.
So would I.. these days, expansion teams seem to get it together a lot faster than the older "established" teams. Must be the new blood in the leadership starting with younger Owners. It pains me to say this, but Carolina has been to TWO SB's already.. How many of us would sign up for that kinda success????
