I think come training camp we should see an interesting competition for that H-Back role between Amaro and Enunwa. I'm sure you'll see them both have a nice # of reps at that role throughout next year. Enunwa to stay on the field more will need to be productive in the slot, or maybe he improves enough where he can be on the outside? Then you can throw Decker in the slot instead. But his physicality, you have to love it indeed.
That's what I'm saying too. He's huge, fast, and a beast. He has questionable hands, which puts him more in the Brayon Edwards mold (vs Branden Marshall). Enunwa WAS our #3 for much of last season (at least half). With Tompkins, Devin Smith, and Amaro coming back, we should be better than fine at WR. Plus he's already been suspended 4 games for slapping his bitch up so he as street cred in the locker room too.
Enunwa reminds me (body-wise) more of Anquan Boldin or Andre Johnson or even Jericho Cotchery. If he could only put those hands together when the ball comes.
I'm not so sure about that. I've read numerous times where Amaro is better suited to the slot than he is an inline TE. Decker is most effective in the slot. So is Kerley. Kerley's probably gone, so that is probably a moot point, but the Jets still have too many players at WR/TE whose best position is the slot. Having a couple is good for depth and flexibility, but 3 is overkill. One of them may need to go. Personally, I like Enunwa's physicality and potential better than I do Amaro's.
Decker is the best slot receiver we have. Most of his catches were there this season. Screw both Enunwa and Amaro if they can't line up on the LOS and play. Having one for depth/insurance and some flexibility is good, but imo we don't need two H-Backs. I like Enunwa's physicality much better than Amaro's, and his hands may be just as good, if not better. I think one of them may need to go eventually.
i hear what the op is saying but i dont think we should go the FA WR route this year. if marshall retires next year and no one has stepped up then i would make that move but i do think we should draft at least one WR every year. like the op said, they are too important to todays game to lack depth at the position
Marshall played well from the slot too. The NFL has changed a lot. Amaro will most likely be lining up more at H-back and TE. Bigger, inside threat. We just have to see if this kid can play still
It's still essential to know the slot position. Gailey wants to move his targets around all over the field. He wants that versatility in his offense. Big receivers that cause mismatches. Amaro out of college was pretty much an over-sized slot receiver and in his rookie year with us learned the basics of the TE position. There will be times where Decker is better on the outside and you can now plug Amaro in there. Amaro is a better route runner, he's a much better red-zone threat - I hope he comes back next season and produces big time. Even thinking about 1 of them leaving is far premature at this stage.
As I said before flexibility is good, but only one can play the slot on any given play. Amaro supposedly learned the basics of the TE position, but everything I've read about him says that he is not suited to being an in-line traditional TE. Instead, they see him as an H-back. I see him as a big pussy and a wasted draft pick. I'm not counting on anything from him. I can't stand him. I'd almost rather him flop and be a camp cut than see him succeed (almost.). I don't care if Amaro is a better route runner. I prefer players who are more physical and can do something with the ball and can block when they don't. We need more receivers who play better outside, we've got plenty who are better inside the numbers.
This is not going to happen where a good wr falls to 20. We are not at slot 6 where a BPA is a real possibility However our reality needs can certainly be met for an edge rusher OL Prospect Can we please get real here?? Laughable thread...
I also believe next year will be a much better year to acquire more WR talent. At least through the draft, it looks like next year will be a better year at the position then this year's draft. I do not know who all is available in pro FA this year however, so maybe someone under the radar with great upside and an affordable price?
Having a solid #2, or #3 added to our passing game would be a great thing. I came up with the idea a couple days ago in another thread, and nobody seemed to like the idea. Having a potential Marshall replacement would be optimal, even though that would probably mean Decker would be our #3. Decker as a #3 is optimal to him as well as the team. I'm all for it, but I can't help but wonder what big changes are gonna happen in this upcoming offseason.
I think he still has some potential with this team. We both didn't like Amaro coming out of the draft, but we have him now so the Jets need to make the best out of the situation.
I agree we need to get a future starting wr. Jefferey would be a perfect signing but fact of the matter is we don't have the cap room to sign him. We need that second outside WR now to let decker be near full time in the slot. Last season he was in the slot more times then outside and that left the outside WR being smith/Enunwa/thompkins/ we need that third WR to be an outside guy because decker works so well in the slot
I think Amaro can be the third option. I liked his potential his rookie season was pissed when he got injured.
Amaro is 6'6" 260 pounds with long arms. Someone needs to teach the kid to block. I'm sick of hearing that he's not an in line tightend. He's not fast enough and doesn't have elite hands to be used like Jimmy Graham or Antonio Gates. He's got all the ability in the world to be a good blocker. He needs to be coached correctly on technique and continue to get stronger. It'll help this offense immensely. Not having a tightend or fullback that can block destroyed this running game at times. When you have 5 offensive lineman and an H-back in Enunwa cutting a defensive end on the backside that leaves one defender free assuming everyone makes their block. It becomes a number game in the box.
