This year only if something spectacular is sitting there in the draft and he's absolute BPA. There are too many questions along the Oline and the LB core to ignore. Next year we def have to pick up a successor at WR if Smith isn't (an) answer.
Drafting issues in 2014 are not the ones the Jets face now. Plug the current holes. Future holes can be dealt with in the future. Unless some wicked BPA situation develops for a WR, the odds of the first pick going there are virtually nil. And I mean wicked.
Laquon Treadwell is the best. If he's available at our pick in the 1st rd., it would be tempting, though we need a pass rushing OLB more.
If Treadwell falls to 20 we should def consider him..I highly doubt he does though. I agree with you though it should be taken care of before it becomes an issue. Cant depend on Marshall to remain healthy for another full season. We got lucky in that department this past year.
Quincy Enunwa. He's a Brandon Marshall clone. Tall, fast, big body. I can see Enunwa becoming a #1/#2 WR for us, and on the CHEAP. I know Quincy has a bad rap (dropped passes), but let me remind you of another big, fast WR with a 'bad hands' rap: Braylon Edwards. If Qunicy never becomes our next Brandon Marshall, I think he can (over the next 2-3 seasons) become our next Braylon Edwards. If Quincy holds onto that pass at the end of the Buffalo game, we are in the playoffs, we are in SB #50, and threads like this never happen. I have more hope for Enunwa than Devin Smith. But both together, healthy and experienced, along with Marshall and Decker could become an UNSTOPPABLE WR core.
Enunwa reminds me more of Stephen Hill than he does Brandon Marshall. Huge and fast but he's a bit awkward and a bit of a body catcher which results in some bad drops. The question is whether or not the new regime can develop him properly. Building a successful team isn't all about bringing in studs, it's also about player development. When you're given a player with the natural talent of a Stephen Hill or Quincy Enunwa, it's on the staff to coach him up and get the most out of him. Rex's guys never did it, let's see what Bowles and co can do. Early returns are encouraging, with guys like Brian Winters, Calvin Pryor and Chris Ivory playing much better this year than they did with the old staff.
^ Enunwa is more like Stephen Hill? Ouch. Imo that's a bit harsh. Yeah, he's been disappointing to some extent. But he looks to have a higher ceiling than Hill. Only thing is, I doubt Macc wants to count on him as a solid #3 wideout.
Fitz is going to have a heck of a time throwing to him while he's on his back O-Line 1st round no questions asked.
Enunwa is nothing like Stephen Hill. He's much more like Brayon Edwards. Tall, big, fast, with a rap for dropping easy passes (it only takes dropping 2 or 3 passes all year to get a bad rap). Hill only caught like 5 balls in college. Hill was more like a blocking TE than a WR.
I think he's somewhere in between the two. I dont even know if I'd say he was a disappointment. He was a 6th round pick, and he's made some huge catches. Not many 6th round picks even contribute that much. But at the same time, I dont see his ceiling as a number 1 receiver. He's a nice 4/5/6 receiver for a team. If the Jets think there is a franchise WR at 20 and he is the Best Player Available, I see no reason not to take him.
This is a bit shortsighted IMO. I wouldnt reach for an offensive lineman if there is a much better player at another position. WR OL QB MLB OLB All of these positions are up for grabs from my point of view in the 1st. Best Player Available all the way.
FWIW, two early mocks on NFL.com have Treadwell going #23. The other two have him going #7, so it's interesting how different experts have him so far apart. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/mock-drafts?icampaign=draft-sub_nav_bar-drafteventpage-mockdraft As for Marshall, I fully expect him to stay healthy for a full 16 games next season. He's not at all injury prone, and he badly wants to make the playoffs and win a title. He's one of those determined, hard workers who will live in the weight room to make sure he has another big season. In fact, he should have at least 2 or 3 good years left. So our WRs will be fine next year with Marshall, Decker, and a solid #3 in Enunwa. Not to mention the return of TE Amaro. So Treadwell would be a luxury; if there is a good OLB or OL available at #20, I would go that route instead, though I would certainly not complain if we took Treadwell!
Im not so sold on penciling in Enunwa as our 3 right out of the gate. I like him better as a 4 with upside and Thompkins and Smith rounding out that group. I guess its unrealistic to have 6 WR's every week though so maybe the numbers game just wont work out in getting an above average 3rd WR in here. Amaro coming back might help but IDK how much we can expect from him. He was very up and down his rookie year and then was taking FB reps before getting hurt this season. I think a FA signing could keep him from getting regular snaps. Remember this regime has zero ties to him. And to me Treadwell goes around pick 15 or so. Eagles at 13 and Bills at 19 could be two likely destinations for him before we pick, so the chances of him falling to us are silm. No chance he goes in the top 10 though IMO unless the Ravens overpay for him at 6.
Unless the best WR prospect drops into our laps then I doubt it. We need to start rebuilding the OL before it falls apart. Also RB and linebacker are more pressing concerns. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
I wasn't saying that he's going to wind up as Stephen Hill did, I was saying that he has the same skill set and flaws as Hill did and with the proper coaching has a very high ceiling, but can also be a non factor. They're very similar blank slates and the molding will determine what type of players they are.
You may be right about where he ends up. But at this point I think he's already shown more ability than Hill did.
Enunwa is a beast, just wish he had better hands. Nothing like Stephen Hill, Enunwa will break tackles, even run right through you. If he stops dropping the football, he could be a key player for us.
Think he is going to have to learn the slot if Amaro becomes a player for the O. Like how physical Enunwa is; hard to teach that it... More just a players nature. He can be very good if he learns to catch.
