I agree that it would be a story, but I don't think to the same degree. In the one week scenario, the media wouldn't have as much time on their hands to dwell on it. The talk would focus more on the games than the up-close-and-personal stuff.
Much as I hate all the antics & posing that go on with this squad, giving footballs to kids in the crowd is admirable. Does Cam pay the league for those balls?
No, you have to address why people would like blacks who are flamboyant at one position, like Deion, but not at QB. Black athletes are hugely popular so it isn't that black athletes are disliked. Celebratory black athletes are popular so it isn't as if celebratory black athletes are disliked. Black QB's are popular so it isn't as if black QB's are disliked. And successful black QB's are popular so it isn't that white Americans has an issue with successful black QB's. You see how narrowly you have to construct your argument to try to defend it. All of those things above are true, so you have to create the narrow argument that successful celebratory black QB's are disliked even though those elements separate from each other are not disliked. You don't see how ludicrous such an illogically narrow argument is? Obviously there are some people who dislike him because he is black because some people are racist. But the narrative isn't that some or a few are racist and dislike him for that reason, it is that the dislike of him reflects a large issue of racism and that is the primary reason that he is disliked. It takes a tremendous amount of dishonesty and logical contortionism to make and defend that position.
i'll address it. its very simple actually. people hated Deion as much as they hate Cam Newton early in his career
BN Victor Cruz salsa danced his way to Superbowl victory but I didn't see anyone hating him. I don't think dislike towards Cam has anything to do with race. Heck, I am the last possible racist person on earth but I can't stand the guy. I also can't stand Ted Cruz who is white also Trump and Hillary who are whites.
But where was the narrative that they hated him because he is black? Don't forget that is what we are discussing. Athletes of all color are hated by someone.
Favre? I don't remember him having any real celebrations and certainly not all the time. I remember him mostly running to the sideline, high fiving his teammates. Even when he set the record for consecutive games with 2 TDs I don't remember a big celebration. As I was watching some highlights I also noticed most of his receivers would spike the ball, high five a teammate but usually nothing elaborate, of course there is the Lambeau Leap at times though. Could be that many of them had no rhythm and that could be the reason for a lack of celebration. Not saying you are wrong but don't really remember it the same as you.
Anyone who wants to believe it has nothing to do with being black are just plain naive. It may not be outright or intentional racism, but as another poster it is more on a subconscious level. There are many black athletes that celebrate as much and are not crucified, but they are basketball players, wide receivers or defensive backs not QB's. There are many QB's that celebrate quite a bit as mentioned Favre, Rodgers, Brady etc, but they are not black. Russell Wilson doesn't get the hate because he is more of an "old school" quiet player. I hated Gastineau because of the sack dance, I dislike most of the celebrations for sacks I see across the league. Santonio Holmes doing his first down thing in a game when we are getting killed drove me nuts. I am very much against a lot of the over the top celebrations. I love Cam. I don't see any of what he does anywhere near as ridiculous or obnoxious as some of the other crap I see. He is a great player that is truly having fun on the field/sideline.It is a game after all. He is a great leader, his teammates love him and follow him and he is great to the fans and the local community.
17-1 Great Player The Panthers give little children footballs...nice So what if he wants to own a clothing store one day? His dancing and celebrating is stupid but nothing new He is not a thug gangsta so thats also good I give probs to 85% of CN
I didn't like him. Then I met him and I really hated him, lol. I was so glad he got his ass kicked in the boxing ring. I hate Brian Bosworth, Bryce Harper, and Toni Kucoc too
The question is do you subconsciously know how ridiculous what you type actually sounds? Let's just break down the argument. White peoples be loving celebratory black athletes. White peoples loves celebratory quarterbacks. But put those two together with a celebratory black quarterback and white peoples can't restrain their subconscious racism that celebratory black basketball players and wide receivers don't force out into the open. I didn't realize QB was such a vital part of white identity that celebratory black quarterbacks are an affront to. You can play QB, boy, but don't you dance. You want to dance, play receiver! Dancings reserved for white QB's!
I hate Russell Wilson because of that fucking douchebag in his Bose commercials telling me "this is Russell Wilson's air". You're a douchebag if you green light that commercial. _
Says the guy with the completely moronic argument that QB is such a sacred part of white peoples lives that a black athlete that plays it and celebrates unveils their subconscious racism that black athletes playing other sports and positions does not. We just can't hold it back!!! We love the shucking and jiving when they be returning interceptions, but showboat as a QB and there be hell to pay! Just think about his stupid that sounds. Don't just resort to ad hominem attacks to deflect from that fact.
Can't we all just get along? Whites, blacks, chinks, Jews, terrorist Muslims, Indians, Indians from India, Puerto Ricans, Spaniards (Puerto Ricans that marry your daughter), Mexicans, albinos, all of Gods children and the children of the Spaghetti God. _
