He played behind a massive OLine with all kinds of time and he completed 56% of his passes. As a senior. Crappy college QBs complete 65% of passes. And he's a douchebag. And he's unathletic. If you're going to be a diva douchebag college QB you better be athletic and accurate. And please don't tell me about "big boy" throws. That sounds like "window throwa". _
Hawaii Northern Illinois Western Michigan Minnesota Illinois Indiana Maryland Rutgers No I'm sorry that is not tough competition. _
Cook has risk involved with him I'll give you that, but it's no more risk than Carson Wentz, or Christian Hackenberg. I really don't want a QB this year as I feel like it's a pretty weak qb class. Wentz has Clevelend Brown Written all over him.... Hackenberg I wouldn't touch, Cook I'd take but not till the 2nd or 3rd round. Goff and Paxton Lynch have there own issues and there probably the best 2.
Yes he did. D2 doesn't matter. The NFL is what matters. Cook doesn't have nearly the arm that Wentz does and that's important in the NE in the winter, so is accuracy and Cook doesn't have it. Combine his poor footwork/flatfooted throwing with just his arm and lack of accuracy and that equals a ton of interceptions. He could break all of Geno's records.
Earlier in the thread you said you didn't know anything about NDSU football but that you saw Wentz play in one game, the FCS championship and that he was awesome in that game. Then you've been proclaiming him worthy of a top five pick and acting like you know everything about him. Well in that one game you say you saw, his team won 37-10, he was 55% for less than 200 yards passing 1 TD and 2 INTs. So I don't think you know what you're talking about. Connor Cook has a quick release and can carve up bad teams, that's why some unfortunate people love him, but he's bad against better competition, tighter defenses will own him. But to act like Wentz is so superior is laughable when he's also limited, he's good at read option/rollouts/misdirection, he's not a good pocket passer, his long ball floats, basically the points you just bashed Cook on can apply to Wentz.
I agree, it's a very weak class. Not 2013 putrid but close. Hack is just plain awful and I don't even want him as an UDFA. I think someone is going to massively overdraft Goff and find out in 2-3 years he doesn't have the arm nor the frame to be a starting QB. Lynch I am thoroughly unimpressed with and I think Cook is immobile and inaccurate and a bad guy. If you're going to be a bad guy there better be something special about you like having an amazing arm like Cutler. I'd rather have Petty than all of those guys. Especially now that he's been in an NFL system, locker room, weight room, film room, live preseason games, practices, etc for a year. Wentz is the only wild card for me. He could totally be a figment of the division he played in or he could be amazing. I just can't tell. I think he's the type of guy that if someone like Cleveland gambles on, they could hit a bust (and so what, they are the Browns) or they may have hit a home run. That's a gamble I take. _
Go look up any of his games against OSU, Oregon, Michigan and the bowl games. He has stepped up in a lot of big games. He's the best QB in college football on 3rd down and against the blitz. This year he was awful against Alabama but he was also hurt.
Yet you liked Petty - this is a full on contradiction dude. Also, if you think Cook has a weak arm, you are sadly mistaken - he's an all weather QB, he's not a weak armed QB.
He doesn't have nearly the arm that Petty has. I wouldn't say it's weak but he does not have gun by any stretch. And if his shoulder is damaged, all the worse. _
It's not a Pennington-like injury. He's got good arm strength, better than Kirk Cousins and Andy Dalton. It's definitely not as strong Petty [his arm strength was the best in the draft last year you can easily argue over Winston], but Cook trumps Petty in every way when it comes to ball placement skills and touch especially down the field.
I disagree. His arm is not strong enough to make flat footed throws in the NE in the winter with NFL DBs. He would break Geno's records. If he develops the proper footwork and mechanics, then yes his arm will be strong enough, but I don't think he will. He seems to be a douche and uncoachable. Petty conversely has a great attitude, is working hard, has a stronger arm, and I'll be has worked on his footwork, fundamentals a lot.
At that point you may be looking at someone like Hackenberg in Round 3. Personally, I think Hackenberg would be a steal at that point. I know a lot of people are down on him, but he has a very high ceiling. He could definitely be a franchise QB. He will be a guy that will need some time and a lot of work, but don't give up on him.
Yes, Wentz has won multiple championships, including this years. Before you just dismiss him, you should do a little research on him.
And preceding him Brock Jenson won 3 championships with the same team, he went undrafted, now he's playing in Canada.
Nonsense. Petty is a better thrower of the football in every sense. Plus, Cook is somewhat of a douchebag, I'm done with douchebag QBs. _
Being flat footed is an inconsistency and is absolutely coach-able. He still has a good live arm to make the throws needed. He wouldn't break Geno's records, because Geno can't read a defense to save his life. Like I mentioned before, best QB in the country on 3rd down and against the blitz. He has the quick release. He is the complete opposite of Geno Smith in this regard. I didn't like Geno Smith 1 bit out of college, and the two play nothing like or share any of the same tendencies. The douche part, I read up on this and it's completely overblown. The kid is completely coach-able and has no on the field issues. What I do believe is this. He is immature and is arrogant, but when it comes to being coached up and being accountable for his play, there is 0 concern. The team was behind Cook, the QB. Led his team to endless comebacks and lead to program to heights it had never achieved.
