Would be awesome and ideal to get him at 20 and have him sit for a year but thats most unrealistic unless some red flags are uncovered. Im excited to see how this staff develops the young talent coming over the next 3-5 years.

I'm not going to pretend like a know a lot about him or NDSU football either, but I saw him play in their national championship game (for their level), and he was awesome. He was pressured in that game, and if memory serves me correctly, he handled it very well.

He seems to have a very accurate arm, and with his height, he should have little or no problems with perfect passing lanes. With his arm strength, he should be able to do just fine, regardless of how fast NFL DBs are. His arm is the real deal. If he can make the transition level wise, and there's no reason to think he can't since he's smart and Flacco made the same transition, he's going to probably make some lucky team very happy.

    He's also 5x the runner/athlete Flacco is.

Top 10 teams needing a QB

Cleveland- Goff or Lynch makes more sense

Top 20 teams needing a QB

Eagles- Bradford makes sense here as Pederson seen what his system did for Alex Smith
Rams- whoever's left between Goff or Lynch

Both of those teams can't risk Wentz here because if the competition is that much of a negative to teams then you go for the guys playing against D1 teams who both still have great upside.

Wentz might be there, he might

I tell my wife all the time that I can't determine if I like something until I see the price. With reference to the bold, one of the reasons I liked Wentz a lot was because he was undervalued at the time. At 20 he would have been great value; top 5, however, is a bit rich.

While I agree that he would have been a bargain at #20 and the price is a little high top five, if you were Cleveland or the Rams, would you take him? I know the norm is for teams to feel like a 1st round QB has to start immediately, especially those taken at the top of the 1st round. I also know that the norm is for rookie or new HCs to not want to take a QB that will need development since the pressure is there to win immediately.

If I was an owner of the Browns or Rams, however. I'd let my GM and HC know that if they took Wentz, there would be no pressure on him or them for him to start day one, and that the pressure on them to win immediately would be significantly lessened. With what, only 1 1/2 season's starting experience (I think) and playing at a level where the competition is lower, he needs seasoning. With his character, smarts, prototypical size, arm strenth, accuracy and athleticism, I think he's worth waiting for. Conversely, I'd tell them that if they didn't take him, that would be their choice, but there'd be no lessening of pressure or expectations to win immediately. I definitely think he has a chance to become a quality starter, if not a star in the NFL, and I'd roll the dice on him.

I really don't want a D2 QB...... I'd rather take Conor Cook...... Believe it or not, who they play against and the talent level of who they play against actually matter.

It matters much less than people tend to think.

His stock took a dip this year. Last year he was very solid, I guess a lot of people expected him to take a HUGE jump and it just didn't work out for him. Despite what people here think, he's still a very solid prospect that can be had at the end of rd 1 / beginning of round 2.

He still had a solid year overall. He lead his team to the CFB playoff. Before his shoulder injury against Maryland he had 20tds and less than 5ints in just his first 9 games. He was pretty much unstoppable against the blitz and on 3rd down. He's not the flashy prospect, but he ran the pro-style offense to near perfection, reading defenses and detecting 1 on 1 match-ups. Statistics, I guess are everything in college football. Gotta have those heisman #s

Cook will be a good player soon..... This D2 kid who knows what he will be...... Whoever takes him is taking a gamble I round one.... I'd take him in the 3rd or 4th round, or maybe in the 2nd..... Not the first......

If Wentz goes into the top 10, might that also push down a QB that might also be a good value at 20? Maybe a silver lining?

I don't want an inaccurate unathletic douchebag QB so I'm not taking Cook in any round.

I totally disagree. I don't think Cook will ever be a good NFL QB. He's not very accurate, and with his poor footwork, he's liable to throw a ton of interceptions in the NFL because his arm isn't that special. If the character/personality rumors are accurate, he may totally flop in the NFL because players on his own team may not want to play with him, or there might be another Ik out there who'd knock his head off.

Wentz has a LOT more talent than Cook imo. Wentz is a risk, sure, but I don't think that much of a risk as long as he isn't thrown to the wolves from day 1, and even then with the right HC, OC and offense he could be fine. I think Cook is a risk no matter what. I'd rather roll the dice trying to find a true franchise QB who has the talent to become a star than take a "guy" who is more likely than not to be a JAG and who doesn't have a very high ceiling at all.

Is this thread for real? Wentz had ONE 300 yd passing game in his entire college career - in the FCS! Jimmy G had 20 more than that and was a 2nd rounder.

So the Gabbert lover McShay - who should be banned from saying anything about QB prospects - put him in his top 32 and now everyone is riding the Wentz train.

The FCS is on the metric system.

    That's like 400 metres a game.

Cook played against tough competition.... He didn't play as well as he could have this year, But is a battle tested leader..... Did this D2 qb everybody is in love with even win the D2 Championship? I bet Cook could get you a national Championship in D2......

Wentz last 23 games played average 207 passing yards in FCS on team with superior talent

Goff last 23 games played average 356 passing yards in Pac12 on team with inferior talent
