Which is why they probably did that dickhead a favor by killing him now, because the ones they take alive really need to spend a great deal of time in prison. Peaceful protest my ass.
There are people on the left who do not believe in public order. But to be sure as it stands right now there are more on the right who engage in violent actions against the government. Everyone knows that. The vast majority of domestic terrorism is conducted by the right.
Here's the way I see things, from left of where you are. If the suspect pulled his weapon first in the presence of the law officers and there was reason to believe he was going to use it then the shoot is justified. If the law officers pulled their weapons first and then the suspect pulled his weapon and there was reason to believe he was going to use it then the shoot is justified but the judgement of the law officers in creating the shooting needs to be examined. Not punitively but correctively to prevent future incidents of this sort. New guidelines, etc. If the law officers pulled their weapons first and fired before the suspect had a weapon clearly in view then the shoot is probably manslaughter, absent a clear indication that he was going to shoot law officers today, like a video statement or reliable witness statement. In truth, the law officers who made the stop probably should have been unarmed. Armed officers should have been available to respond immediately if the stop went south. The law officers taking the group into custody should have made it clear that they were there to make the arrest and that nobody was going to get hurt unless they were interfered with in that process. It's a really sucky job to have to go up to people who might kill or badly injure you at any point. I don't know how the state troopers who are usually alone on the highway manage the stress. That said, there are situations like this one where many of the quantities and factors were known where you can engineer a successful result with the unfortunate but necessary risk that the guys on the front line might be at real risk. You do that because it's what totally deflates the claim that the authorities are out of control and running roughshod over the populace. If it's true that the guy charged the law officers and it turns out he was unarmed then the situation was mismanaged. He should have been tasered on the way in and subdued. If no tasers were present, well again that's mismanagement. If he charged them with a gun, well that's suicide by cop and you can't stop that.
I didn't say all the law officers should have been unarmed. I said the guys moving in to make the arrest should have been unarmed. Do you really think the protesters would have shot and killed unarmed law officers moving in on them? What would that have done to their protest? It would have made them lawless murderers in the eyes of the nation and it would have been hard for even their supporters to claim anything in their defense with the death of unarmed law officers on their hands (and on their movement's hands). That's why I said it really sucked to be a guy who had to go up to people not knowing if they were going to shoot or not. State troopers do this thousands of times a day across the country and when they're killed they never see the gun that killed them. The law officers in this case should have been sent in unarmed, maybe with tasers, and with instructions to make the arrest if possible and to get away if not. Then you send in a couple of humvees full of tactical officers and make it clear who is in control. Odds are pretty good that the guy who wound up dead would have had nobody he was willing to shoot at to make a point in the first scenario and everybody would have wound up brought in without shots fired.
meh Listen to the cop and don't end up dead. Don't pull guns on cops and don't end up dead. Is it possible this guy was just surrendering with his hands up? Sure, but highly unlikely. Mandatory body camera's would be nice. Cops need to be armed in our society IMO.
They do have some guns in Denmark. I suggest seeing a great movie from about two years back called The Hunt.
I'll just address this, these were men known to be armed, one of which said he would not go to jail, basically said he would not be taken alive. You don't approach this situation with a tazer, only a fool would. Firearms were appropriate in this situation and whether armed or not you pay with your life by charging a law enforcement officer most times, they don't know where you may have a weapon hidden.
The GFs favorite actor. I told her he's too tall for her. Still can't believe Hannibal was cancelled. _
