So the question here is pretty straightforward, how do you guys feel about Carson Wentz. He's a guy that a lot of people had going in the middle rounds at the beginning of the season but has pushed his stock up to first round and maybe even top 10 consideration, despite the fact that he missed half of his final season.

Wentz was a 0 star QB recruit who only started one year of QB in high school due to a baseball injury. He played mostly WR. He followed his brother to NDSU (brother plays baseball) after only receiving two FBS offers, one was Central Michigan, can't remember the other.

If you look at Wentz's tape, it's easily the best of any college QB coming out this year. He's showcased the ability to go through a progression both left- right and high-low. He has impeccable footwork and pays very close attention to detail. His mechanics are nearly flawless. The release is very smooth and may be even faster than ole Fitzy's (who has a VERY quick release). The arm strength is obvious. It jumps off the screen. His athleticism is also something to behold. He runs extremely well though I haven't seem enough of him throwing on the run to comment on it. He moves in the pocket in a way very similar to Peyton but he is 10x more athletic.

So, why isn't this guy the consensus #1? Well the thing is, he only has so many career starts. His tape is incredible, but it's a pretty small sample size, basically 1.5 seasons of starting experience. Also, there is the issue of competition. He played for an FCS team against FCS competition, though NDSU is no joke. They are the toast of FCS play. Marcus Williams played there if I'm not mistaken. It's basically the Alabama of the FCS. He appears to have a bit of an injury history as well, but you watch one interview of this guy and he screams leadership.

I personally believe he'll be the first QB off the board, though I definitely would not like to see it go down that way. If he makes it to 20, I'd have no problem as a Jets fan taking him and maybe letting him sit a year, assuming Fitz is back. I really love Wentz and I hope you guys will take the time to watch some film of his play. I'd post some videos, but I'm not positive on how to do it haha.

But really, check the kid out...

You are a little bit late to the party my friend. Sadly, it doesn't matter anymore as it seems he has propelled himself into top 10, and quite possibly top 5 consideration; thus out of our range. This franchise can never seem to get need, draft position and prospect in alignment when it comes to the QB position.

I think by draft time he'll be the first QB chosen whether that's at #1 overall by trade or to CLE at #2. He's the best QB in the draft right now especially since the other 2 Goff and Lynch are more flawed than u would like. I admitting was a little late than some I'll give Legler82 credit he was the 1st person on the bandwagon from what I can remember but yeah he's won me over the more I see, hear and read about him it's kind of clear who the best QB is. Only real knock on him the level of competition but he'll be able to show what he can do at the Senior Bowl.

I was hoping that that others wouldn't of figured it out but it seems like most of those draft guys Mayock, Kiper Jr, McShay, Jermiah they all know about him now.

Definitely true, we seem to be especially unlucky at the QB position. We just gotta trust in Mike. There's a reason you see many of these same teams drafting top 5 year after year. Shouldn't the Browns, Jaguars, Raiders, Bucs, Rams, Bills, all have elite QBs by now? Many including myself thought we could have won a few playoff games had we gotten in, but other than our D-line, we have so much area to improve. We have Bryce Petty and (gasp) Geno as two young QBs behind Fitz. If we want to draft another and put him on the PS then that would be good too. You can never have enough QBs and hopefully it will be some dumb luck that we pick the next franchise one.

Never too late my friend haha. I don't get too into the draft until I have a good idea of where everyone might land and what underclassmen are declaring.

But back on topic, he definitely looks and plays the part. He's also very intelligent. 4.0 student throughout college. The more I learn about him, the more I like him. Every other QB's flaws are obvious but you have to dig very deep to find any flaws in Wentz. He looks like the real deal.

I think the first team you see him go to is the Rams @ 15. You could see him end up dropping to the Jets @ 20.

Tons of good tackles and defensive players will be selected first, a lot of teams needs offensive line help badly. So if a team needs an impact player that will start right away, they could pass on a QB. Wentz as far as I have seen has the livest arm in the draft. I see him being like Joe Flacco early on with the potential to get much better down the road. Said it before the pace of the game is nothing to mess with. Huge transition from FCS to the NFL. I said it before about spread QBs.

But the kid has a GREAT arm, the kid can sling it.

He'll be long gone when we draft which is a big kick in the balls... Another missed QB.

I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about North Dakota state football or Wentz in general but every damn highlight video I watch of this kid he's just able to stand back there in a completely clean pocket, no rush on him what-so-ever, before finding receivers against guys that will be in the NFL's practice squad.

I'm not saying we should always downplay guys at that level by any means but its another story when a guy at that level takes him team on his shoulders vs this. When Big Ben played at Miami he basically won games on his own for example. Every TD pass I see of Wentz involves him standing flat footed in the pocket, enough time to read War & Peace if he really wanted to, perfectly opened passing lanes whereby he finds his receiver that is being covered by I-AA guys. I'm sorry but having just that its hard for me to be that impressed. But I'll acknowledge I haven't closely watched his career.

watch these highlights, just one example. Not even once would I consider him "pressured"

I mean how is he going to do in the league without the perfect passing lanes, with actual pressure coming at him, and on the backside of that DBs that are more aggressive and fast than he's ever seen. idk. I'm willing to change my opinion though if I hear more about him and this isn't the case

One day you're a 3rd prospect, then a late Rd 1 prospect and now a Top pick in the draft. All of this hype is media and scouts drooling over a player that hasn't done too much since the season ended.

Wentz seems to have all the right stuff, size, arm, smarts etc......just beware of fast rising prospects.

I'm not too concerned about missing out on Wentz, we have some other big needs and Petty is on the roster and could turn out to be a better NFL player than Wentz. We still need to address the QB postion this year...signing Fitz and signing or drafting another QB.

I've been watching a ton of Wentz over the last few days. He's good, but the hype by the media is asinine. I find it interesting that a guy like Mariota was called a one read QB while a player such as Wentz who does always take the first read gets no flack for this. I like his aggresiveness and wilingness to test tight windows, but there are so many questions that still need to be answered. He plays in a clean pocket for much of the game, can he fix that? Is he capable of consistently reading defenses and throwing with aniticpation; can he improve his processing speed? Some of those FCS linebackers were just overmatched NDSU's talent level .I don't think I'd take a QB in round one this year.

I bet it's gonna be high imo, fwiw. That's based on an interview I saw last night on The Sr. Bowl coverage show. It's the first thing I thought of. He's very mature for his age and and seems to have a good self confidence. Sometimes you can tell when a guy is just regurgitating canned responses. I didn't see that with him, yet

I actually like to watch every interview I can during all the pre draft shows :)

So much changes through the process, and it's always different in the end as the media hype from the beginning transitions into all the realtime evaluations that are processed. Tons of info is yet to be gleaned by the teams themselves, and all the resources that are to come.

He's wrong about this. Goff is the best QB prospect since Peyton
