That is a very good draft class.

Amazing how none of the first 8 picks busted.

I see your 2011 draft class and I raise you the 1983 draft class:

Pick # NFL Team Player Position College

2 Los Angeles Rams (from Houston through Seattle) Eric Dickerson Running Back Southern Methodist

3 Seattle Seahawks (from Los Angeles Rams) Curt Warner Running Back Penn State - 3x All pro, 3X Pro Bowl
4 Denver Broncos(player later traded to Baltimore) Chris Hinton Guard Northwestern - 3X All pro, 7X pro bowl
5 San Diego Chargers (from San Francisco) Billy Ray Smith Linebacker Arkansas - 2nd Team All-Pro, Chargers Team MVP
6 Chicago Bears Jim Covert Offensive Tackle Pittsburgh - 1980s All Decade Team, 2X All-pro, 2X pro bowl, Bears SB
7 Kansas City Chiefs Todd Blackledge Quarterback Penn State
8 Philadelphia Eagles Michael Haddix Running Back Mississippi State
9 Houston Oilers (from Seattle) Bruce Matthews Offensive Tackle USC- Hall of Fame
10 New York Giants Terry Kinard Safety Clemson - Pro Bowl, Giants SB
11 Green Bay Packers (from New Orleans) Tim Lewis Cornerback Pittsburgh
12 Buffalo Bills Tony Hunter Tight End Notre Dame
13 Detroit Lions James Jones Fullback Florida
14 Buffalo Bills (from Cleveland) Jim Kelly Quarterback Miami (FL)- Hall of Fame
15 New England Patriots Tony Eason Quarterback Illinois - Worst performance in SB history, first starting SB QB not to complete a pass in the game
16 Atlanta Falcons Mike Pitts Defensive End Alabama - Started 123 games
17 St. Louis Cardinals Leonard Smith Cornerback McNeese State - All-pro
18 Chicago Bears (from Tampa Bay) Willie Gault Wide Receiver Tennessee - Played 170 games, Bears SB
19 Minnesota Vikings Joey Browner Cornerback USC - 1980s All Decade Team, 4x All-Pro, 6x pro bowler
20 San Diego Chargers (from Green Bay) Gary Anderson Running Back Arkansas - USFL All-Star, pro bowl
21 Pittsburgh Steelers Gabriel Rivera Defensive Tackle Texas Tech - Paralyzed in car accident during rookie year
22 San Diego Chargers (from San Diego through San Francisco) Gill Byrd Cornerback San Jose State - 4X All-pro, 2X pro bowl, Bart Starr Man of the Year, Chargers All-Time Interception Leader (42)
23 Dallas Cowboys Jim Jeffcoat Defensive End Arizona State - Nominated for pro football HOF, 102.5 Career NFL sacks, Played 227 games, 2X Cowboys SB

There are a lot more great players as late as round 12 including Richard Dent. My post went over 10,000 characters so the edit with the other rounds was lost.

good call on '83 hasty, that was the only 1 thought could compete. 6 h.o.f players including 3 qbs is unelievable.

The 2011 draft could feature 6 Hall of Famers in the first 9 picks.

Figure Cam Newton, Von Miller, AJ Green, and Julio Jones are all going to finish with Hall of Fame numbers. Patrick Peterson and Tyron Smith have the name recognition and some All-Pro's. If Aldon Smith wasn't a moron he was trending that way too. Even the so-so players like Anthony Castonzo and Gabe Carimi are still starters in this league.

Go deeper into that draft and you have:
    Andy Dalton
    Randall Cobb
    Justin Houston
    Demarco Murray
    Jurrell Casey
    Jordan Cameron
    Julius Thomas
    Richard Sherman
    Pernell McPhee
    Tyron Taylor
    Jason Kelce

Pro-bowlers straight into the 6th round. Nice knowing we didn't mess up our first round pick in that draft.

Geez can you believe there was once a debate over the best QB in that draft class. That class definitely didn't get much hype if I remember correctly, probably because it was weak at QB, that is one hell of a pass rusher/DL draft. To think we got Mo where we did in that round is mind boggling

Seven, Harry Carson was drafted later on.

Also Jim Jeffcoat was the only player never in the pro bowl to receive a HOF nomination.

How do you reference the 2011 draft and not reference Mo Wilk?

I didn't think anyone on this board was unaware he was in that draft. Apparently I was wrong.

Well no. That's logical. I was talking about that draft on Sunday. The talent was huge.

#25 Rimington was a top center in the league at the time too--recall him breaking his leg in a freak play in the SB

edit--oops, wrong about the broken leg; that was Krumrie

    It's crazy.

The following players are the only not above average starters in this league
    Gabe Carimi (starter)
    Danny Watkins
Phil Taylor (killed by injuries if I remember correctly)
    Gabbert, Locker, Ponder
    Jonathan Baldwin
Adrian Clayborn (hasn't been the same since injuries)
    Derrick Sherrod
Jimmy Smith (fell off last year but has all the ability in the world, starter)

There's a couple players like Ingram and Amukamara you could say aren't above average but still good players. Outside of that everyone else in the draft are damn good football players.

That 2011 draft was something special. So many pro bowlers and future HF players.

That QB class was a joke though

Is that surprising? After all, how many drafts have several topflight QB prospects? Cam is probably going to wind up a HOFer. I haven't done any research, but I can't remember but a couple of drafts where there were several topflight QB prospects that went on to be great NFL QBs or even quality starters. Last year there were two topflight QB prospects (Mariota and the FSU kid). In 2014 there was Bridgewater and the drunk in Cleveland. In 2013 there were none.

It's mostly a joke because 3 out of 4 QB were top 12 picks and had no business being that high with the talent that followed them.

Well it happens because teams set up their offseason where they have no choice but to take a quarterback high that's going to need to start. The 2011 draft highlights how terrible it is for a franchise to simply take a quarterback high because they need one. You can easily miss out on All-Pro/Hall of Fame talent doing that.

Cleveland (yet again), St. Louis are all teams flirting with that this year. Philly and San Francisco might be in that spot too.
