Gotta think that takes them out of the Cespedes market. Supposedly the only teams giving him interest were us , the O's and Braves so some good news on that front. 23 mil per year for basically a HR or bust hitter. Cespedes is far and away the better all around player. So if he was/is only looking for 22 per , its a bargain.
Agreed. White Sox are probably in on him too. Maybe if he signs a one year deal he can actually give some effort from September 15th onward and earn that long term contract
Roch Kubatko(He reports on the Orioles on MASN) @masnRoch 1h1 hour ago Told deal with Chris Davis is for less money than Cespedes was seeking #orioles I never really thought the orioles were serious about Cespedes. I think they were just using him to nudge Chris along. I wonder what's going through his and his agent minds. If it's really about the ultimate payday maybe it's best for him to sign a 1 yr deal and go through free agency again. Unless the Whitesox? Tigers? Angels? say fuck it here you go.
I was ok with the Mets passing on Cespedes if the market was 6 or 7 years but if he gets signed at 5 and under 100 million I would be pissed off. That would prove once and for all that the Wilpon's are either broke or pocketing money to repay their debts.
Orioles also in on Cespedes for 2 years or less. If he's smart he goes to Camden Yards and crushes homers and re-ups on a deal when this one is done
Worked well for Nelson Cruz. Put Cespedes in a lineup right behind Adam Jones and Chris Davis and whoa! But I still have a hard time thinking he would take a shorter contract outside of NY. If the O's offer him 5 for 90 they'll get him. And thats a sad statement for the Mets. The possibility of being outbid by Baltimore is a joke.
If they cant see the big picture here with Cespedes though then they shouldn't be owning a professional team , obvious statement I know. Mets would sell out so many more games with him than without him..and most likely get to the playoffs and make another run. Maybe not the WS again but if things break right you never know. Not many people predicted the Royals would get back and with our staff I like our chances against anyone in a series. But the only reason the team made a profit last season was because they got to the playoffs. 20 million just in ticket sales alone. Fans did their part. If the Wilpons want a stadium at 75 percent capacity instead of 95 up until July 31st again then thats on them.
Justin Upton, Detroit Tigers agree to six-year, $132.75 million deal Some team will give Cespedes a long term deal. White Sox? Angels?
With this pitching staff we have a window. That window gets smaller every day. I know that sounds dramatic but the reality is we can't afford to pay all of the great young pitching that we've assembled. I understand that Cespedes wasn't worth a long term deal. But now that the possibility exists of signing him for a 1 year deal exists - what's the delay.
Losing Cespedes would be shitty..but the idea that he could end up in Washington would make it 100 times worse. And considering the O's and Tigers are out of the running for him and new reports saying the Angels arent interested , that really only leaves so many suitors. Supposedly us and the White Sox only want him on short term deals. Like us , Washington has a window for a championship as well. Scherzer is only going to be elite for so much longer , Strasburg is dynamic but injuries and consistency are always a question with him, and a lot of people seem to think Harper isnt going to resign there when he's up for free agency in 3 years. And unlike the Mets , they actually have an owner that will do what it takes to win. He was in on Heyward , rumored to be in on Upton , and now Cespedes. With our staff I think we are currently favorites for the division. If the Nats land Cespedes I think that shifts the power in the NL East.
How the hell can we not pony up a 3 year 60m or 2 year 55m deal? we dont have 20 - 25 to spend? give me a break!!
I'm getting really close to walking away from this organization. The owners are showing that the fans are last on the list, but ironically it's the fans that make these teams financially rich.
That last part of your post is money. Didn't the Coupons say last year that if the fans want them to spend money, they should come to the ball park?? How BACKWARDS is that shit
30 years of mediocre baseball and this is what we have to show for it, an owner who tells the fans that he is not going to put a good product on the field until the fans first fill up his pocket. Screw you Wilpon, it was your greed that put you in this situation, you deserve what Bernie Madoff did to you, cheap scumbag. They have a chance to double down on WS appearances with this pitching staff, take advantage of it and the fans will come back with open arms.
C'mon Jeffie get this man in here you fuck'n putz!! We lose him on a three year deal it's on Jeffie. The Mets fans should tar & feather him forthwith then I just hope the Chisox or the Angels don't go longer in years, 4 or 5, and fuck us on this.....not counting on that tho. There's always somebody.... worried about Chisox...fuck
