Exceptionally lousy for the rest of the state, to the point they'd be bankrupt in about a week.

Can they take the tri-cities (Albany, Schenectady & Troy) with them?

The tax dollar flow has been northward for decades, upstate being subsidized by downstate - I'm not interested in researching for you either.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if that were true. People and businesses have also been flowing out of NY for years because of high taxes and regulations.

In theory a Republican led government would have less regulation and lower taxes creating a more business friendly environment. That could create more businesses and stop the flow of tax payers out of upstate. Fracking could be a game changer. I'm very skeptical that Republicans would do what they're supposed to though, so I stress "in theory".

it would be a completely different scenario but it's never going to happen anyway

i see, seems like the city would be for it to then. but like NSN said, will never happen. better chance of getting all of upstate to out vote the city and thats slim too

I have to disagree with you. This was political brilliance. Cruz re-enforced his commitment to his conservative base, and all it cost him was New York, a state he had ZERO CHANCE to win.

I realize you are just mocking the Cruz critics but the split state proposal IS offensive. It would be a blatant example of gerrymandering. I find the pathetic proposal to be offensive to our supposed American values:

Instead of people of various political ideologies working together, lets just separate them and let them not have to work together? fuck that shit.
