I think D'Brick will re-constructure and I think we will look to draft his replacement in 2017 or find it in the FA. Mangold has several years left, hopefully. Winters is ok, hopefully someone can step up and best man wins. Carpenter is doing great, Breno could def be upgraded. With Mac saying we can find OL help later on in the Draft I don't feel we will go OL early. We can probably get a few guys UD. 1. Yannick Ngakoue OLB 6-2 250 The kid is an absolute stud. He is currently a later pick but his stock is rising. He could definitely go in the 1st/2nd round come April. Yannick has great size and good closing speed. He has had over 10 TFL in each of the last two seasons and he produced 13.5 sacks this past season. Yannick displayed great ability in several tough match-ups against current and future NFL linemen. I really want Reggie Ragland but I don't feel he will be there. OLB is a big need for this team and Yannick should pair with Mauldin nicely. 2. Kentrell Brothers ILB 6-1 235 Brothers absolutely went off this past season. He had 152 tackles, 12 TFL, 2 INTs, and 2.5 sacks. Brothers is exactly what we need in the middle of our defense. Send Demario Davis home, I never want to see him in a Jets uni again. With Harris getting old and there not being a lot of ILB depth Brothers is someone that can step in right away and be this generations David Harris. He is not only a tackling machine but also a good coverage ILB. Playing with Sheldon may set up some kind of personal account of what this kid can do. If he is gone we could look to take Beniquez Brown from Mississippi State. 3. Kenneth Dixon RB 5-10 215 Ivory thinks he is a top 5 back, he is going want to get paid. He really soured on me this season. I think he has a ton of potential but he doesn't show up when it counts. He clearly can't be counted on. Bringing back Powell is an absolute must. We knew what we had in him and he thrived in the system. Dixon dominated his competition for the most part. He's a tough runner and has some very impressive stats. He is a work horse that has proven to be durable. Dixon has had nearly 1,000 in every single season since his freshman year. He is also a pass catching threat. Over 30 receptions in the last two seasons with 13 rec TDs combined. I also like Ferguson but think Dixon is a better compliment to Powell. 4. Chris Moore WR 6-2 190 Moore has good size and reliable hands. The QB play at Cincinnati has been completely trash yet Moore has still been productive. Marshall is getting up there in age and he won't be doing this two years from now. We need to have youth at the position. Decker is the man but not a true #1, we need to develop WRs. Enunwa showed a little promise and Smith on the other hand could miss a lot of 2016. Having too many WRs is a problem every team wants. If you want to watch this kid in action check him out against Houston (a team with a good defense that demolished FSU). 5. Matt Hegarty G/C 6-4 300 Matt provides solid depth for our OL. He can step in at C if need be. With Mangold going down for a couple of games we saw what kind of impact it had to be lacking a decent back up center. Hegarty could definitely develop into a starting G or C. He was at ND but didn't have an opportunity to start so he transferred to Oregon where he played well. This kid has potential and is versatile, a great pick if he is there in the 5th. 7. Drew Kaser P 6-3 210 Anyone but Quigley. Kaiser played well and had a dozen or so punts over 50 yards. He has also put many inside the 20. Definitely need to upgrade the Punter position.
Don't leave us hanging, who do we get in round seven? Also, it looks like pick # 20 is a little early for Yannick. Otherwise the other picks look good.
Haha my bad, we should take the best possible Punter in the 7th. Yannick would not go 20th right now but his stock is going to soar come the combine and pro-day. If we can't trade down a little bit reaching on a kid by 10 picks or so is all relative if he becomes a force from the edge. The kid is a savage and has the name to boot.
Interesting. Sounds good. I wish the receiver was smaller/quicker and a PR as well. I like the Hegarty pick. We definitely need to upgrade the backup C position and improve depth at OG. An ILB who can cover receivers? What a concept! Question... If Dixon has around 1,ooo yards every season since his freshman year, has he had too many carries already? Will he last more than a season or two.?
I really want us to address OLine earlier than the 5th round and I'm not sure to what extent we really need a WR in the top 4 rounds, but other than that I like this mock draft.
Yah I didn't really look into kick returning. We definitely need one. Maybe take one that is a receiver that also returns kicks at some point. Potentially get a WR or RB UD who can return kicks. Dixons numbers are boosted by his ypc. There is only 1 season where he has a significant amount of carries. He is around 200 for a couple of seasons. 253 is his most. In comparison Ivory had 247 this season and missed a significant amount of time. Dixon should be able to hold up just fine. I wouldn't pound him for 25 every game but switch him and Powell up. Maybe even Powell as the feature back. Brothers looks like the man. I'm really hoping that he is there in the 2nd!
With some of this stuff developing with Mo Wilk we could get several picks for him. Should we get more picks I can see OL getting taken care of earlier. However, I could definitely see us getting 2-3 younger linemen in the FA.
It will be interesting to see what Mac does. Early on he said that his preference is to build the OL with middle and lower round picks. I'm sure he knows that he'd have to be extremely lucky to find an LT in those rounds. For certain, he ought to be able to find depth in those rounds and an occasional gem, particularly at OG. I think we need depth at WR. We have Marshall and Decker, then Devin Smith, who will for all intents and purposes, be a rookie in 2016. Kerley will likely be gone. Hopefully, Kenbrell Thompkins will be back, but perhaps not. Owusu should retire. Enunwa can play some WR, but is still questionable. Gailey likes to run multiple WR sets (3 or 4 at the time), so we need more WRs, and we also need depth. Injuries happen. In addition, we need a PR and a KR. I think we need a WR or RB who will serve as depth, but primary responsibility will be as PR & KOR.
I agree. I think if Mac can create/find the cap space, he will look to sign at least a couple of young FA OL for competition, if for no other reason, but I think he will try to find a young, cheap player on the rise who will be an upgrade over Winters and Wesley Johnson, and maybe over Ijalana.
Ngakoue bothers me a little.. For as athletic he is and how explosive he can be at times, he disappears a LOT. He doesn't make tackles even though he's on the field almost every snap. He is blocked pretty easily in the run game. I wanted to like him after seeing him flash quite a bit in the 2014 season but he is not a complete player justifying a 1st round pick IMO.
I think round 1 could definitely be high for him. I didn't really do a lot of research on him. This 20th pick is going to be tricky. A lot of top guys will be gone. I like Scooby Wright III a lot but not at 20 and he is a bit undersized. Floyd is interesting but should be gone. Calhoun isn't an OLB. So we could potentially go T in the 1st or if Reggie Ragland is there we could snag him.
Ngakoue is an extremely inconsistent tackler, no bend, extremely stiff, lacks strength at the point of attack, and is kinda slow for what we are looking for. I'm not a fan at all, even in some of his better games (Michigan), I wasn't impressed. He reminds me a lot of the ghost of NYJ drafting past. The depth at rush backer is actually pretty good this year, I have a feeling there will be someone much better suited at 20. I don't share the same belief, I don't think the combine will increase his stock enough to justify a first round selection. Noah Spence is someone that I would much rather have at 20, who will likely fall because of his past discretions.
I'm glad that you said this. When I watched the highlights for him, his tackling seemed to leave something to be desired, but I thought maybe it was just me, since no had mentioned it.
I didn't really do my research. I know he is rising a little and the combine and stuff could help. I just got excited about his sack production and play against top prospects. But I neglected to see that he doesn't really make tackles or have great speed. I also didn't know some people grade him out as a 4th rounder. I've seen him 3rd and I definitely feel he could go in the 2nd but 1st may be too soon. Spence is a good prospect, but I haven't seen him stand up enough or cover. I'm not sure there is a OLB worth the 20th when the time comes. Like I've said hopefully Ragland is there but if not maybe look at OLB later on instead of force picking. That's what Mac will do, BPA.
On a side note Ngakoue's criticism on run defense is warranted however we should look back to Bruce Irvin. He rocketed come draft time and he was strictly a pass rushing fiend. Yannick is somewhat similar. However one ran a 4.5 flat at the combine and the other might be 4.7 at best. We will see.
I would not go near Noah Spence, he is this years version of Manziel, has failed multiple drug exams. Not worth it in my opinion.
People can change. Josh Gordon, and Justin Blackmon may have said similar stuff, but its worth a read. http://www.foxsports.com/college-fo...ky-colonels-ecstasy-addiction-comeback-102015
